Hi, if you change the input mic level from -60db to -50db will that make the volume louder as you are reducing the DB 10 less?

I just bought the panasonic HX 20.
I also bought a RODE external stereo microphone.
I am new with this and have no clue. I mainly just shoot air shows for fun. Please give me some suggestions on where to put stuff for audio please.
Also, somebody mentioned something about a book, maybe that you have????

Thanks for this explanation. As you say, channel 1 and channel 2 can be seen as your left and right speaker. When I use a microphone at input 1, and another one at input 2, the camera create something like 'mono' sound. Input 1 will be on the left, input 2 on the right. Offcourse I can set it over two speakers later, but then it's a straight line and their won't be a difference between left and right.
How can I use two inputs (two different microphones) en still get stereo sound from both of them?

thanks for doing these videos and the book. I just sent back a JVC that was just awful. You convinced me to go all out and get the UX180 and can't say how HAPPY I am with this camera. It has more features than I'll ever use, but if I ever need to get really nerdy I know those things are there. Also, you've educated me a lot on how to use these cameras and good video procedures to use that I knew nothing about, a newbie in many ways. The UX180 is almost completely faultless, I've used many Panasonic products going back to the late 70's and all them have been exceptionally great and never any problems.

I have the Panasonic HC-X1 same camera your discussing, I also use the Panasonic AG-MC200G shotgun microphone, while shooting video I had a complaint from people around me of a high pitch sound hurting their ears, when I disconnected the microphone the high pitch went away, I was unable to hear the sound myself because I have a high pitch hearing loss. Is there a setting that would cause this high pitch sound coming from my camera?

Regarding Channel 1 and Channel 2. Will I still get stereo sound on my edited program if I just use one channel? On my old Canon, I had to split the signal from one mic into both XLR ports to get this to work.

Barry, Is it possible to output hdmi and use the audio out (red and white rca) simultaneously? I am doing legal video and that option would be helpful, I see in the menu option menu>output setup>av out - that is selected but it is not passing audio??

I see in this video that you are not using the original battery. Is this a CGA-D54? ( The original battery from a HVX or HPX )

Very good question. I have the shot gun mike in input 2 and a levalier on input 1 on my HC-X1 (the UX180) and in the Premier Elements editing software I use you see two channels in the audio file. However I haven't worked out how to separate them. Thought I'd reply because clearly no one at Panasonic or Mike for that matter curates the comments section which is pretty poor.

I can't find anything like this regarding the HC-X1 and the manual I'm sorry to say is severely lacking in this department but as far as I can tell everything discussed here is identical on the HC-X1. Is there anything different that I should know regarding audio control on the HC-X1? If not it might be a good idea to re-title this for those working with the HC-X1 or other models that are similar in set up.

For anyone curious about the terrible delay on the UX90 through the headphones. I may have found the solution! In "OUTPUT SETUP" there is "H/PHONE MODE" and it has a default setting on "RECORDING" which creates the delay we hear. Set it to "LIVE" and the delay is gone! I almost though the preamps on the UX90 were awful or something. What a thing! Terrible default setting if you ask me.

The audio preamps in this camera are pure crap. They are so noisy that even though it uses 16 bit 48khz it sounds like a fucking type I cassette. Yes , like a crappy 2 dollar tape . It is insulting.
