My pleasure! Glad I can be of service. Just remember, you have to be quick with it. You have to anticipate the punch and slip AS SOON as you exit the clinch.

@ martial . To comment about why he didn't continue to try mixing in his wrestling a lot more after some early success against stipe with his take downs. I was watching a podcast a couple weeks ago where micheal cheiesa was talking about coming back after some back problems. He stated in that podcast that DC talked him out of getting stem cell surgery to correct his on going back problems. He mentioned how DC talked about how he had the stem cell surgery on his back in the latter part of his career . and after he had got the surgery he could never wrestle the same and his take downs was never the same and it bothered his back still. So much to wrestle. That's why toward the last part of his career we seen him apply a more striking heavy approach to his game and not rely on his wrestling much any more. Idk if that's why he bailed on his wrestling in the last 2 stipe fights or not but it's a strong possibility to why he did maybe ?

Each fighter is responsible for their actions (or lack thereof) in the cage. The fact that Cormier lost his matches can be explained as tunnel vision or maybe trying to best an opponent at their own game. Or maybe it's like UFC video gaming - maybe he didn't want folks to complain that all he did was lay on someone the whole match.
DC isn't the only one. Rumble did it against DC, too...dude kept trying to wrestle DC when Rumble was such a great striker (he knocked DC halfway across the mat). There are a few others I've seen get fixated on only one aspect of fighting, too. I think sometimes folks just get stuck or hyper-focused on one thing.
The DC fights against Stipe, though...I'm gonna say this and folks might complain about it, but in ALL three of those matches, DC eye-poked the shit out of Stipe, which I firmly believe is how he knocked out Stipe (Stipe couldn't see). The second match, Stipe's face looked like it got raked for 30 min across the face. The third match, he was getting poked as well and the ref said something. Stipe poked him back - no idea if it was purposely done but at that point, I wouldn't have blamed him if it were purposely done and that's when DC started having issues (his eye was straight-up F'ed up). He complained about the eye-poke after the fight, too. I don't know if it's just the way he defends (since he doesn't tend to have as much reach as some of the other fighters) or if he just doesn't care, but it seems a trend to me, at least in the fights against Stipe.

Throughout the history of the UFC and MMA a lot of grapplers get caught up in focusing too much on striking and kinda forget to use the best tool in their arsenal. I never understood why really good wrestlers did not learn and use submissions more. Most of the time if they want to take someone down they will do it pretty easily, so why not lock in a choke or something once they hit the ground. I think it's a dumb machismo thing, but I could be wrong. I had one MMA fight in my life 20 years ago, nowhere near high level, but as soon as we got to the ground I worked for the submission and got it. I was not interested in standing and banging nor was I going to waste energy with ground and pound for three rounds. I got the fight to the ground used punches to open up a submission opportunity then I went for the choke. I have been watching MMA since I was a teenager in the mid 90s from UFC 2 that I saw live on ppv, I watched Pancrase, Pride, Rings, king of the cage etc. and it always blew my mind to watch grapplers not use grappling as much as they should or could.

I wish more people would be open to grappling on ufc 4 online. Its an mma game and striking in mma is inherently tied to the threat of the takedown/grappling and thats what distinguishes it from pure kickboxing. The amount of people who instantly rage quit when you land a takedown irks me. If Im playing as a wrestler/grappler and youre playing as a striker, it would be a silly/unrealistic mma strategy to stand n bang the WHOLE fight.
