  • Knockdown or Full Contact Karate is a style of sport fighting that developed in the late 1960s by MASUTATSU OYAMA founder of Kyokushinkai Karate Organization. Today there are so many Kyokushin offshoots such as: Ashihara Karate, Enshin Karate, Seidokaikan Karate, Shidokan Karate, Seido Juku, Sato Juku, Shinkarate , Daido Juku (although daido juku-kudo is a knockdown karate mma system there is a very close parenthood to Kyokushin), Seiwakai Karate etc Also there are so many that descended from Kyokushin or just influenced by it such as: World Miura Karate, Keshinkan , Toshinkai, Shinaido , Shurenkan, Shinbukan etc. I think don't need to mention World Oyama Karate and all of IKOs , everyone knows them.

This style of fighting looks pretty tuff to the untrained eye, but if you watch closely you will see that they are not allowed to punch the face. If you think about it , that is totally unrealistic. People who practice this style regularly have no idea how to use there hands practically. Sure it’s brutal, but is it smart fighting. I’ve seen in these types of fights when a person accidentally takes a hand to the face, the guy just stops, doesn’t know how to fight through it, and of course complain to the center judge.

There are guys in this video throwing punches to the face. In this very video.
I know the comments a year old, but come on man. It depends on the rule set of the tournament you're fighting at. Most kyokushin places, for example, have a kickboxing night where folks get punched in the head just fine.
