I wasn't a fan when they announced the change tbh but we can't really judge it until the end of the season when the tournament has been played in full, then we can compare
we absolutely can judge it though on principle, it adds games when players’ unions are specifically speaking out about too many games. The additional air miles for teams and supporters is damaging as well for supporters economically and the environment. It would be kinda weird for football fans to protest against more football games but the sport (and specifically supporting the reds) is becoming so inaccessible for working class fans. I am in favour of the improvement in fixture quality in the group stages in isolation, but that will also impact the league. Also believe they could have pursued a similar restructure without increasing the group stages to 8-10 games, players are being run into the ground and its reducing the overall quality of the football we get to watch and also further disadvantages clubs with less resources.
@@Seids_89 I agree. I'm intrigued by the format and feel it will be more exciting... But I feel the change could have happened with teams still playing 6 games.
Can’t wait for it, got me and my daughter tickets for Bologna game. I was not sure before draw but after it I thought set up was great playing good teams at early stage. Been Madrid games and they look like got 5 attacking players and 5 defenders
I would rather it stayed as it was. I love going to all the CL games but it's too many games end of. The players are struggling with the workload as it is. It's basically the next step to a super league, or feels that way.
Aha this familiar Bundesliga commentator nice. Will admit I skimmed the video details for his name aha, but he knows his stuff. Anyway see how the season goes for CL- some great matches. Leverkusen, Real, Milan etc. , even the Bologna one- see how they go post losing Zirkzee. And Motta to Juventus but yeah does make it busy period of matches, until that mid-late January point of the season. Edit- Kevin Hatchard my bad aha, anyway voice of the Bundesliga for me. With what highlights I watch of that, from Aus 🇦🇺
To call it the "Champions League" is incorrect as everybody knows. It's obviously all about more games = more cash Let's see how it pans out... 🔥 YNWA 🔥
It's an interesting change I guess but I'm concerned about the additional games with regard to the players welfare. The winners will be as much about who's left standing as who's the best team.
2 more games than previous. At the end of the day squad depth and prioritizing certain competitions is just part of the modern game. Play the B team in the Carabao and FA cups for me and keep up the in game rotation we've seen from Slot so far.
@@SW-by9ob Squads "should" be able to cope but it seldom works out like that for the vast majority of teams. Although, I guess that's what separates the winners from the losers ultimately. I'm sure the teams will acclimatise to it in time as well as squads growing accordingly. However, it's unavoidable that more games means more injuries & this transitional season could be a difficult one. There were too many games already imo so even though it's "only" another two it's still going to have detrimental consequences to the best players availability etc.
@@SW-by9ob with a potential for a two legged play off at the end of the group phase too. Players are already playing too many games. It decreases the overall quality of the football we get to watch due to the attritional season on season fatigue.
Well they’ve ruined the draw as a spectacle. We’ll see if there’s any drama to the competition. The play-offs is the only part ai can see, but that’s the battle of the mid-pack. Well that was better served by group elimination stages and simultaneous games. What we’ve lost here is the jeopardy of club tournament football.
The draw was awful I agree. I also don't believe for a second that it was randomly selected by computer. Real Madrid and Leverkusen at Anfield? Pull the other one..
I like the new format in principal. European nights are often the most entertaining of the season so having more of them, and against a wider range of opponents, can only be a good thing for us fans.

The new format is much more exciting than the old one, top 8 should be the target.
Nice chat. Cheers
Great pundit Kevin, really knows his stuff on European football
Redmen TV 2, great video keep up the amazing content

Just got tickets for the away game at San Siro ❤
The new changes are great. It needed a change.

It's the trial run for the super lueage I think
