Man, because of your new MoO LP, I looked up some LP of MoO2, and it was nice to see that the first result was from you. You're one of the most interesting, funny and informativo LPlayers out there. Keep up the good work!
This game is such a classic. I propably played MOO2 more than any other strategy game. My favourite setup is telepathy, espionage and uncreative+X. Uncreative makes it quite hard, but also more interesting since you have to use the technologies that you are offered instead of just going for the best technologies, and it can be mitigated by good use of espionage. Telepathy is awesome because building tons of troop ships is very cumbersome, and you can get around that +espionage/diplomacy bonus.
I consider this to be the best space based 4X game that exists. So far, I haven't seen any that come close to being as masterfully done as Master of Orion 2. Mind you, I haven't tried a lot of them, because the ones I have looked into (or played myself) just don't look any good.
+Soulsphere001 You know who else would? Anyone whose played it. lol not trying to be rude, just stating that I dont even think thats as much as an opinion as a statement like "The sky is blue" "water is wet" I was thinking of buying Galactic Civ III, read all the mixed reviews and checked out the race editor... BORING. You cant make a Telepathic Unity race who mind melds anyone who doesnt play along with them, or my Kitty Kat Warlord Dictator, lead by the Omniscient Far Seers stalking their pray from across the galaxy! See, Im having more fun explaining the concept of my races then I could with actually playing most 4X space games XD
Agreed, Orion 2 is the king of turn based strategy.. It only lacks simultaneous turn multiplayer, giving SMAC a slight edge.. I'm still cooking up new strategies after 20+ years of regular play! Love it! :)
Great idea for doing this serie, I am mostly a visual learner, I don't have patience to read the manual so this is great for me, 'cause I wanted to try this game out for a long time. Thanks a bunch!
Bulrathis need kinda different mindset to solve problems unlike rest races. I tried follow this logic once and avoid standard beam ships or missle ships types when designing their fleet and try to approach toward their strengths, which are powerful marines. So i had warp distruptor ship to prevent enemy fleet escape, several highly armored so called "tug tanks" classes to absorb enemy fire and use tractors to disable their engines. Also few ships with those radiation rays to kill off their crew...
So I want to buy Master of Orion off of GoG, which one would be better for entering the series and which one is overall better the first Master of Orion or the second one?
Also, I live in Brasil, and in our flag we have an star chart (the blue circle), and each of the stars represent one state. And my state (Piauí) star in Antares!
I really thought this would have passed UA-cam by. My fault for never searching for it. Think this was alongside Civ 2 for my first proper "all-night gaming by accident" sessions..
Back when I first played this game, I was so little, that I didn't care about not understanding how the game worked. I have no clue no clue how I played it when I was 8. I guess my friend was just a genius and carried me.
I always like playing on mineral rich because you can always terraform Non-toxic planets but you can't really increase mineral content of planets. It might take you longer to expand but building faster makes up for it for me >^.^
I could not remember the name of this game for the life of me! It was really annoying me and I thought I'd have to let it go but after a lot of googling and YouTubing I found it! Masters of Orion 2, me and my friend played this to death when we were kids. I going to watch your whole series, very nostalgic.
Only thing I remember not liking about the switch from Moo1 to Moo2 was that in Moo2 the ship-building was more restricted. But it has been so long since I've played Moo1. Somehow I lost it maybe 10 years ago. I've loved Moo2, though. I love almost everything about it. The manual, the graphics style, the custom races, the leaders, and so on. It's just such a nice game. I'm sure it can be better, anything can.
..then i would board them with my marine carriers and shuttles, take over their ships, drive them back to friendly systems and scrap them so i can reverse engineering tech they used on their ships. As bulrathi can pretty much stole tech like this and with spoils from planetary invasion and keep somewhat competitive.
I beat Master of Orion 1 on Impossible level. The winning strategy can be be expressed in one word, ORION. Once you destroy the Guardian and get the Death Ray, your enemies are toast. I start building huge ships carrying as many death rays as I can fit and also carrying high energy focus and oracle interface to max out the range making missles obselete. With the death ray I can destroy colonies in the battle screen which makes bomb obselete. In MOO2, Orion and the Death Ray are not as important.
I was trying out different approach with elerians too when starting new game with them, since they r so gimped by -50% research why bother researching on start at all? Instead i focused on production (fleet buildup, colonization and spies) and simply stole techs like labs or whatever is needed and use fleets to bully others so they keep tribute me to leave them in peace.Telepaths do get nice spy bonus on start so this approach only seems natural.Omniscient also helps get good worlds before others.
I don't know if it's because you have way better equipment now (microphone) but you sound A LOT younger in this video than you do in your recent ones :-) As in teenage young :p
i wish the people that made moo2 would update its multilayer so when there is like 5 people playing in a game and you press turn the game would skip a bunch of turns if no on e is doing anything. That's the biggest flaw with moo2 multilayer.
Moo3 was the worst mistake ever done in videogame sequels! a GOOD "sequel" for moo2 is in my opinion Sword of the stars... a very unnknow game, but quite good, definitely the best "modern" moo type of game. Planet management is a lot like Moo1, while ship management, creation and combat is like moo2, fights are real time, but you can pause to issue orders and stuff. from a die hard moo2 fan, i recomend it to my fellow fans. obviously, moo2 is still the best of them all.
For many years I was of the opinion that Master of Orion was better or worth to play before Master of Orion 2, but after playing MoO2 for months, I can tell just skip to Master of Orion 2 like suggested by quill18.
MOO 1 was one of the first games I ever played, awesome. Glad you did MOO2 and NOT MOO3 as that game makes eye rape seem like a good idea with its HORRIBLE mechanics
I restarted playing this game a few days ago (first played in the early aughts) and I have been getting slaughtered with tactical on and off. Can barely beat average difficulty a winning percentage lol.
Stock races are harder. Custom is overpowered. You can further tune the difficulty by choosing galaxy size/number of opponents that suits or is tougher for your seelction
Also in MOO2 bombs are not as important as MOO1, I never use them. The stellar converter is my favorite weapon because it allow me to be a sadistic bastard and destroy the other players planet and not just the colony. I pretty use the Converter the same way I use the death ray in MOO1, which is to go on a genocidal rampage.
@@hyperteleXii I think he was saying this is an example of good 4x. Lmao sorry for resurrecting this post, I don’t know anything about the game but had a mild interest last night. Good to know you’re still alive

THE LIVESTREAM WAS AWESOME!!!!
and by the way quill, i was the guy who gave the idea of the name QUILLMINATOR for the battle ships
So I want to buy Master of Orion off of GoG, which one would be better for entering the series and which one is overall better the first Master of Orion or the second one?
@WatchOutBR Apparently the name was NOT STRONG ENOUGH as we were defeated. You'll need to think of an even more stupendous name for this LP!

If, for example, I loved Galactic Civ 2, would I love this game also. Did it age well?
You are the Quentin Tarantino of moo2. Both in voice and nerdiness!
+Mike Gibbs Does he also have a feet fetish too? if then,he's the double.
Really nice job :) Already watched 5 parts and this is much better than *.pdf ;P
Where can I get this or download at?
