  • Should you spend money on a Canon C300 Mark iii in 2024? Is it worth the extra money, considering how far the Canon C70 has come with all the firmware updates it has received? In this video, I break down all the similarities these cameras share, and more importantly, the major differences, so that you can decide which is the right choice for you in 2024!
    ‪@LeReveFilms‬ you have used both for a while now…what's your take?

    I own both and I wish I would have gotten rid of my c300 before the price cut from canon happened. But now I will just use both of them and enjoy them. The c70 truly is an incredible camera for the cost and the sensor on these is amazing in my opinion.

      Yea, I remember when they did that! Felt bad for everyone that had just bought before they dropped them. Probably had to, since the massive price gap before that made so much less sense after they gave the c70 all the updates they did

      imagine the gut punch if you owned the c500 mII...so for me I use my C500 II for my AV film and my C70+ R5 for my weddings. I use the C7/C500 combo for bigger budget weddings as well. Love the C300/500 inputs, SDI, Full size XLR, better rigging setup, CF express plus proxy recording, better battery setup, V-mout+ canon, full day without having to change batteries at all.

    That’s a really nice comparison between those two cameras. I sold my Canon c100s and moved onto a Canon XF 605. I use it for corporate work and documentary style storytelling, but I think it would be a brilliant camera for weddings. The picture is not quite as cinematic. But boy, it’s so versatile and so fast to get multiple shots..With the powered image stabilisation, you can and hold the camera with tripod like stability, which is a great party trick and especially impressive on the 15 X zoom lens. For me, the dealbreaker with the C 70 is that it has no viewfinder. If you’re not relying on the auto focus and auto exposure, it’s much much easier I would say to achieve critical focus and correct exposure when you look through the viewfinder and it also gives you a third point of Anchorage for more stable shots.hFor me, the dealbreaker with the C 70 is that it has no viewfinder. Nobody seems to mention this lack on the C 70. I guess if you grow up holding an iPhone, you wouldn’t realise what you’re missing out on.

      In all the time I have been shooting, I can count on 1 hand the times I've actually used a viewfinder, so that is really a non issue for me. IMO, the xf605 (and other camcorder style cameras) just don't work for the level of weddings we do. Not to mention, the sensor really doesn't come close to being as good as the DGO in these 2 cameras. Different strokes for different folks tho. Glad you have found something that works well for you!

    I used to have both, but sold C70. I love the form factor of C300 mkiii. It's heavy buy really enjoyable to shoot with C300 mkiii.

      I really do give form factor to the c300iii. I’ve never loved the DSLR style of the c70, even tho it’s an amazing camera

    Nice reviews. It’s incredible the sensor and quality that they pack into a C70. I’ve used them often. I own a C300 mkiii - personally for filmmaking and the work I film I like the larger heavier cameras. The smaller cameras for me feel to “Video” - where as a rigged up and heavy camera gives a much more film and cinematic workflow and look to the images especially when hand held or on a shoulder rig or hip bag ( cini saddle )
    I’ve not seen the C400 images in real life yet just the UA-cam compression versions but it’s interesting the C300 mkiii is still more expensive then the C400
    I feel the DGO and 16 stops is still a better image / closer to an Arri then what the C400 full frame will pump out
    I often B camera with my friends Alexa Mini LF - and honestly even my buddy who owns the Arri comments how well the C300 mkiii holds up and matches so close to the Arri image
    You get a touch of magenta in the canon over the Arri usually :)) - nice video. Thanks 😊

    Just imagine if you could use a 2TB NVMe SSD that doesn't cost too much from a reputed brand
    instead of a high-speed memory card.
    Using Zitay adapters, you can do exactly that.
    The only issue is keeping the little door closed.
    I need to create a little plastic adapter for that purpose.
    But yeah, the NVMe SSDs really work with the camera in the card slots.

    I love the C70 but doing the kind of work we do for Nat Geo (documentary), we need the better build quality of the pair of C300 Mark III and pair of C500 Mark II bodies that we use.

    • @theyoungsphoto
      @theyoungsphoto  Місяць тому +1

      Definitely understand that! Build quality is night and day between the 2.

      @@theyoungsphoto Massively so. That being said, of someone doesn't need to put their gear through the mill, really roughing it up, then the Canon C70 is absolutely brilliant. I've got a couple for personal projects when I'm home in England. Love them

      @@RugbyPass81 Absolutely! We shoot ALOT of weddings, and the C70 is perfect for that. There are definitely times that I like to add the c300 for a given wedding tho.

    I bought the C70. Happy with it. I rented the C300. It did not get lighter at the end of the day. I love my C70. Well, except for the monitor. It's really, really small. And the hinge is sketchy. But the touch screen is beautiful. Also love the RF mount. New Canon RF glass is beautiful if you are running and gunning.

    • @theyoungsphoto

      I agreed with ALL of this! I Actually didn't mind the size of the c300 actually. The weight definitely helps get much more stable shots handheld, and the I LOVE the monitor on it (aside from the limited touch screen features). The C70 is absolutely one of the "best bang for your buck" cameras on the market right now!

    Only benefit is the speed booster option on the C70 in my opinion but now that the price difference between the two on the use market are very similar. I'd go C300 in a second. I hear the build quality on the C70 is kinda ehh too.

    • @theyoungsphoto
      @theyoungsphoto  2 місяці тому

      totally forgot to even mention the ability to use a speed booster! Good catch. Build quality, hands down, goes to the c300. BUT I still think the price gap is further than it should be for the few other differences, tbh. Footage is all going to look the same (maybe even slightly better on the c70 if you use RF glass). The I/O's and expandability of the c300 are really the only other difference makers outside of form factor and build quality tho. (I will add, my c70's have held up extremely well having shot with them regularly for almost 4 years.

      I can definitely see that being the case, especially with how good the c70 is, for several grand less. What makes YOU say that tho?
