Just bought a new 2023 lightning lariat in August 2024. Paid $80,000 cad, window sticker was $110,000. 7700km now into November and not a single issue. Love the quality build of this truck, the power is incredible and rides and handles better than any other vehicle I've owned. I have it in a heated garage so efficiency shouldn't suffer too much for winter and charging at home is very cheap at .0729 cents/kwh. Just made way more sense to me buying this than a gas equivalent because I don't do much towing. Love it so far.
I purchased my Flash2024 in September. Great truck no issues. Nice finish, interior is awesome, comfortable. This flash edition is a combination of great features. Bought mine for 66k @ 0% 60mos. Very happy with my purchase.
Lightning is a really solid vehicle. Interested to see what the next gen will bring
85 kph is like 52 mph and that is like driving back roads and side streets in the US. I am a back road driver when possible and this may have been the most convincing reason for me to buy a Lightning. Thanks for the video.
I live in GA and drive 20 miles each way averaging 30mph and get 2.6mi/Kwh, I use about 8 to 10% a day with my back and forth. Works amazing and charges in less than 2 hours at night
I got my Ford lightning pro for 35 grand 37 grand out the door. Only had 11,000 miles on it. It can tow 10,000 pounds and my payload is a little over 2000 pounds Max to package is what gets it up over that. And I have the full 9.6 kWhpro power on board can’t beat it! Better value than most trucks and it was cheaper than the power boost. And even the range Tacoma and the Maverick!
Fantastic video, as someone looking jnto the 2024 Flash trim, this is exactly the kind of info im looking for. And thanks for Cdn units!!! I always have to convert US units to kwh/100km!!!
We tow our tent trailer with our ID4 ev right now (trailer has a vertical bike rack at the back with 3 mtn bikes so it's actually terrible aerodynamically), and we can do about 200kms between charge stops with that setup in BC.
I always knew the aero factor was a much bigger impact than weight, and this proved it.
Ford knows exactly what people want in a basic model truck. They just don't build them to maximize profit. Other automakers do the same thing.
Thanks for telling us something we all ready know.
@@atg1338 I doubt you know much of anything.
@@duggydo Did mommy write that dor you son
@@atg1338 "dor" I can tell you wrote that one.
8:58 it's important to note that Canadian prices include freight, PDI and fees, while US prices do not.
Nice work controlling for aero with your loaded range test! Could have skewed things (like others have) by having the load sticking out and causing added drag.
Some folks trying to argue it's not a real truck, but it is, and in fact is superior to gas in some ways (like having a usable front trunk, and plentiful power outlets). Only shortfalls are the elevated cost (though the new gas models on lots are quite high in price too) and short range when towing long distance (not good for that use case), but towing stuff around town works just fine. And also that it's only offered in SuperCrew format. But otherwise, it's an F-150 that just happens to be electric. Great truck. I've already used mine to haul various loads and tow a 12 ft trailer in town.
"We never see 1/2 trucks with that payload" That because you never reviewed the F-150 with Heavy Payload package (HDPP). My 2022 F-150 FX4 with HDPP has a door sticker just under 2800lbs. In 2024, Ford dropped HDPP to force people to buy superduty line. HDPP started in the late 90s so was available for 25+ years.
I had a Lightning reservation, but only wanted a Pro (but with extended battery) at the attractive price. Once that was determined to be a unicorn, went with gas(5.0l) V8. Pro with ex battery was fleet buyer only configuration. Ford shot themselves in the foot with jacking around price and pissing people off.
The Silverado 2.7 has a payload over 2k
I would love to buy the Lightning Flash. But I really need a tow vehicle. So to me the XLT with the Powerboost Hybrid is the king.
How did we get to a place where $83,540 is considered a value?!! I like the idea, but the price is tough to swallow. Great video
Especially on a truck that not only isnt selling but also has so many crutches that hurts its range. Especially when ford sent out letters to owners alerting them about using their heat in the winter because the battery level drops unregularly
@@EGGINFOOLSthe 2024s now come with a heat pump which are more efficient than the resistive heaters
You can thank the idiots within society for that one
You’re right! Truck buyers have been very gradually conditioned to believe higher and higher prices just are what they are. The only good news is that the full size truck/SUV bubble is starting to pop due to interest rates and potential recession worries.
The other positive is that inventory is stacking up and I’ve heard of people negotiating as much as $20K off sticker. That’s still $63,540 if you’re starting from $83,540. I think we have another $20K to go before we see the bottom of the truck market.
@EGGINFOOLS If people would review these and other EV'S that have a J1772 charging plug they would have realized our infrastructure isn't ready for these vehicles. I must have watched over 100 videos on the lightning prior to purchasing mine, realized they are great for local use, tow all my trailers my ICE F150's towed. Hauls just as much all this at a fraction of the cost. And now cost are even less since I started charging my lightning from my home solar system. Love this truck . I'm 75 and have alway owned F150's, this is the best I've ever owned.
My 2018 F150 SCrew w/ the 6.5 bed has a payload of 2,080. Pretty common to actually see high payload on an actual work truck that isn't weighed down by a bunch of creature comforts like sunroof's and 69 way adjustable leather seats lol
Don’t forget the drivers side tampon dispenser. Lol jk. 😂
This was an awesome video and demonstration for payload👍thank you boss😎
The stereo system on that backhoe sounds amazing!
This is a great truck! Thanks…good review.
We average 4 KM/ KWh which is 25kWh/100KM , not creeping along. For 100 KM, That less than $2.00 to travel. BTW, the same gas version is more expensive than the Lightning. OMG
I'm so glad I was able to get my lightning PRO. $50,000. I WANT the basic interior-vinyl seats, rubber floor, manual buttons. I have two boys and things get messy so this is way easier to keep clean...ish. This was my first summer with it and did 8 trips from the local nursery with a yard of stone in the bed (over a ton) and a few trips carrying large walnut slabs I milled and I still have some big projects coming up this fall. The truck has performed wonderfully so far. The most towing I would ever do might be a mini excavator from a local rental place, so I don't care about the range. It's never been an issue.
Thanks for the review. I'm going to hit a dealer up and check the Lightning out!
Actually some really good deals out there right now!
We choose the XLT with the standard range battery. $10,000 for 90 KM more of range and loosing the $5,000 rebate is not worth it. Drive range for 98% of our use is well worth the savings. We don’t charge once a week at home so it is important to know what you are doing with the vehicle. I have a MachE for 8 months so I knew what our patterns are and what we needed. Best to not make a 100% decision on a 2% event.
$70,000 US is Ford’s idea of ‘affordable’ value. Wow.
Fantastic review! Thank you for this.
Glad it was helpful!
609km range not bad. Can’t wait till your ram charger reviews show up
Something to take note: This truck with an 8,550 GVWR - 1823 payload means the truck weighs 6,727 pounds. My 2021 F150 CCSB STX 5.0 4wd has a 7,050 GVWR and an 1,881 payload (without any special package) which means it weighs 5,169 pounds. These electric trucks are heavy and weigh as much as a 3/4 ton, while they run on standard P rated tires for efficiency. Their weight is something to keep in mind for tires, off-roading and towing as far as GCWR.
I like the idea of the loading setup on the screen...thts a nice feature..I missed that part
There were some Pro models with the big battery built for fleets. Sometimes you can find one that didn't get bought. With old model year discounts and rebates I've heard of people getting close to that $40k mark - but it's rare. I got my XLT for $60k and it's been awesome. I tow a trailer every day doing lawn care and I never run out of battery. If you tow long distance and high speed I'd stick with gas
Excellent episode/review as always!!! 😁
Does it tell you the battery degradation?
Thank you for the advice and the info on the Flash. Very nicely done sir. Here in Texas, the Tesla NACS network is pretty good for long distance travel. Very good job. And very interesting, because I’m interested in that particular model. 👍
I’m really excited about the flash I’ve been holding out waiting to get a lightning. I definitely want the extended battery. Do you have any idea at all when they will change the plug so we don’t have to use the adapter for the Tesla plug I heard a rumor that it was going to be for 25 have you heard anything, and will they relocate it to the other side of the vehicle?
Curious what the replacement cost is for the battery. Unfortunately, this is not a moose camp vehicle where there are no chargers. My powerboost is, and it has been good to me.
great test :)
Even though the 2 double 120 volt recepticals in the bed of the truck are listed as 20 amp recepticals each of the two separate recepticals are connected to one leg of the 240 volt inverter that supplies power to the trucks bed recepticals. So, in fact, you have the entire 7200 watts available to you via those 4 120 volt recepticals. I've proven this by a voltage measurement from the hot terminal on one duplex to the hot terminal of the other duplex and measured 240 volts. Also the frunk 120 volt receptical won't run my 5 ton log splitter where the bed receptical hasn't any problem running it. Indicating there's more available power at the bed recepticals than at the frunk recepticals. Another fact is there's a total available power when using the 4 frunk recepticals along with the 2 cabin recepticals of 2400 watts with very little if any surge capability. Where the bed recepticals may have as much as a 3600-watt surge capability.
Pro with the big battery and available for the consumer. Make sure it has the tow and pro power options. And push that price down. They need to work on their efficiency. At least they added a heat pump. Faster charging would be huge.
Does anyone else think manufacturers are getting a little carried away with the size of touchscreens? Holy Cow that’s a big one.
Cool. I like this option from Ford.
See the price🙁
The Lightning is a good LD pick up truck.
I wonder if a tonneau cover would improve mileage? (reduce drag from the tail gate)
Y'all need some hills for the test.
I drove my 2024 trail boss with the 3.0L over 700km's maxed out with payload (1600lbs) last week. Got almost the same L/100km's at speed of 100KPH. Different story towing my 20ft cargo trailer.
In American please
No one cares. I’d take the flash over a trail boss any day.

Would love to see it tow a 3000-4000 pound boat. My boat weighs 3800 pounds and I tow it with a 2017 F150 5.0.
I’d like to see a longer loop while pulling a travel trailer.
that 2.9 mi/kwh sounds high based on the epa rating of the truck which range is advertised as only 320 mi. at 2.9 mi/kwh would put the range around 380 mi.
Dude, you don't burn electrons, the right think will said how many electrons were move from Negative to Positive or how many Kilowatts you dissipate from the Batteries to the Wheels. I liked the phrase how many electrons you born but it is incorrect.
You can see the exact weight by going to scale on the monitor
I think it’s just a bar graph that gives you a visual representation of how close you are to max payload. IIRC it doesn’t actually give you a numerical figure

Probably the aerodynamics affected it the most, having the nose up a bit and bed open.
It's a fantastic truck for a lot of folks; we've been enjoying our "first step" towards an EV with our Powerboost F150 hybrids. 'Waiting to check out the new version of the Lightning (T3) in a few years.
“Hybrid” is the key word here. It is an excellent option for many, if not most, people. But the government should not be dictating what people can by.
What is the towing range at 70 mph with 5000lb boat, there is a real world situation ! Please do that and give the results.
I put E rated 35"s on mine and lost 15% range. I paid $52k, after rebate, for the XLT back in April. Prefer NOT to have the big stupid screen
One thing that I am trying to find out is can you install a fifth wheel/ goose neck ball hitch in the bed. A lot of us tow with these type of trailers. I tried a quick email to Ford.. but they want my vin number and I don' t own one yet.
Bad idea on a 5.5’ bed
What would be the point? The payload is so low you’d only be able to pull a small gooseneck. Remember…gooseneck wants 20% of total weight on the pin, not 15% like a bumper pull. And goosenecks tend to be for heavier trailers.
@@tylermacconnell217 I have been pulling goose neck and fith wheel trailers with a Ram i/2 tonne 4x 4 for 40 years. It started with an 82, then a 2001, and now a 2012. The weight is not a problem as the power and transmission is the same. Rear suspension is an easy fix.... simply install Timbrens on the rear and they take the weight when hauling and when not you ride on the truck' s regular suspension. Timbrens are much better than air as the bags do not last very long.
I just rode in a bran new f150 and the hood flaps as soon as you get over 100km/h......this also happened on my 2022
Also on the 2017 Toyota Tacoma I had for five years. Silicone caulking added between and along the under-hood frame and the hood skin fixed it.
That's the same Color Ford Lightning thats in-town here...Lady drives it..seen it ystrdy on London Rd 🌛that same moon color
If they cut the price in half, I may look.
Cloth seats and plastic steering wheel for over 70k No thanks!
That giant screen is horrible, can’t believe they didn’t just stay with the base screen.
I love the big screen
@@cwqrpportable xlt screen with physical buttons all day.
@@Thedoors432 Big screen on an electric truck all day
It’s not so much the size (although it is a little too big), it’s how it looks like a slapped on tablet instead of integrated in. I like how they did it on the ranger more
@@Thedoors432One button on the steering wheel with voice control is better than a bunch of buttons. Voice control is safer and works perfectly for making phone calls, playing text messages, navigation, music and control of HVAC temp, fan speed, seat heat or cooling.
Let go of the buttons. Really, it'll be ok.
For me, they can skip that giant screen.
I want an electric work truck with at least a 6.5 foot bed, and just a 2 door or maybe a supercab.
I don't need to haul 3 extra employee's in my truck
That's not what's popular. At my local Ford dealer every Ford F-150 on the lot (every gas model) is a 4-door supercrew. I asked the salesperson about it and they said that is what sells. You can of course order other combos with the gas trucks, but the lower volume Lightning is not surprisingly only sold in the most popular form factor. Sucks but that's the way it is.
An object in motion tends to stay in motion; other than aerodynamics, which you described, the only increase in drag is the tire contact with the road. Other affecting forces are accelerations, so your results are not that unexpected in a constant motion test.
It needs to be $50,000 for the cheapo interior.
Maybe a new wardrobe? 0:20
If the F150 is anything like the Mach-e, and I’d assume it is, their kWh/mile rating is way off.
Can't get my Flash over 2.1 to 2.2 with no payload will only register 289 miles when full charged ford excuse is it remembers how I drive it was like this when I picked it up at the dealer you cannot get the numbers needed for 320-mile range we have tried without a/c and at 45 mph still will not get it
Promised a $40k truck and Ford pretends like everyone has dementia and gives us a $70k truck instead
Mine was $37,000 double check your research but I’m in the US.
You lost me at 70k!
We NEED them to sell electrics so we can keep v8s
Not happening
Still cost you more than a gas job
Save $400 per month or more in fuel if you charge at home or drive a lot.
No more oil and filter changes or transmission fluid changes.
No axle fluid or transfer case maintenance.
Coolant will last hundreds of thousands of miles.
Brake pads and rotors will last the life of the vehicle if using regenerative braking.
No catalytic converter to get stolen.
No mufflers or exhaust system.
No spark plugs, no plug packs, no fuel injection or hundreds of other parts to break or replace.
Battery could last 500,000 miles.
Electric motors could last a million miles.
One EV company gives an 8 year, 150,000 mile warranty on the battery and motors. No ICE company offers that.
ICE vehicles aren't cheaper.
That's why so many people are poor. No critical thinking skills.
