You are dealing with a real Masterpiece here. Even before Dolores sings her first note, this song sweeps away any contemporary music, and when she does, is literally lights years away from the current compositions. This is a forever hymn. The production and the video superb.
Quite probably the finest call for peace you will ever hear. It’s generally about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, but specifically it was a reaction to two boys who were killed by a bomb.
Grew up listening to them when they finally broke into the US music stream being back then that alone was a feat for most bands overseas. That song was written based off Ireland's at that time current events that was going on that most of the world wasn't completely aware of until they released the song and video. Delores did get a bunch flak from Ireland's government because they didn't want the world to know what was really going on there. They were part of the exposure type bands that came to the music scene back in the 80s-90s. Another one of those bands was Gorky Park. Their official video for My Generation shows what some of the things Russian citizens were dealing with up until the fall of the USSR and the Berlin wall fell. For us kids it was eye opening to know and see first hand just how other countries treated their citizens via music videos instead of just reading it in history books or national geographic movies shown in school.
90's music deserves tremendous respect. Bands like Cranberries were breaking off crazy hits it seemed almost daily. I remember hearing "Zombie", for the first time, almost as if it were yesterday.
This song was written in response to the senseless killings of 2 young boys (Jonathan Ball 3 y/o and Tim Parry 12 y/o) in Warrington Ireland in1993. The incidents occurred when 2 separate bombs, planted in trash cans by the IRA (The Irish Republican Army) went off while the children were innocently playing in the streets. This was a par for the course back then in Northern Ireland in which a "war" had been going on for decades hence "Since 1916". This was commonly called "The Troubles" and was horrifying yet it sort of became common-place for the soldiers with their "Tanks and their Bombs and their guns" to be heavily present throughout the streets... The reason she says "Bombs" twice in the chorus is in reference to those 2 two boys who were killed.... That's a VERY brief synopses of the song, to the best of my ability. I just felt these were important pieces of history to share..... FACT: her vocals are called "Keening". It's an old Irish mourning ritual performed at funerals that mimics the mournful wails and cries of Mothers and loved ones....Peace :)
PLEASE do more Cranberries! Linger, Dreams, Ode to my family, Dreaming my dreams, and more! So many great great songs to choose from one of the most unique voices in all of music. One of the few artists that can bring a tear to my eye. RIP
The lead singer is in irish-born lady that passed away in 2017 from an alcohol-related drowning. Her name was Dolores O'Riordan'. The song she wrote zombie was a result of two young men being killed or boys in 1993 in Northern Ireland caused by the troubles and the IRA. Dolores's voice control at the end of her notes as she rolls off and up as throwing your voice kind of is called keening. It is a practice used in singing at Irish funerals.. a war protest song leaning heavily towards Los pain and becoming numb to the bombs and the guns and child abductions because they needed fighters they were forced. Really difficult time in Ireland during the 20th century from 1916 Forward. Study History!
The message of this song is so powerful. I’m not Irish but it surprises me to this day that people were not aware of what was going on in Ireland. Or, they didn’t realise the extend, or worse, they didn’t live through it so didn’t care 😢 I legit cried when I first heard this song. Delores has unfortunately left us. RIP Delores
"Zombies" refers to the idea of people and generations fighting with no real idea of why they are fighting each other- factions of people living in the same place. Historically Britain/ England trying to overtake Ireland, - managed to take a small square of the place, but church became involved too. Huge disputes between Catholic and Protestant, fights led to tanks, military, bombs, many killings. Idealism and political goals became forgotten, and generations grew up as "zombies", simply fed hatred in a divied society.
RIP Delores 2016 2017 and 2018 hurt bad with the deaths of so many artists Chester, Chris Cornell, Prince, Tom Petty music will never be the same without them.

Sometimes it's tough watching a new reaction to such a heartbreaking song sung by someone who unfortunately is no longer with us. It just brings you right back. She was a true warrior and advocate for all things good.
I love how your whole mood switched from "vibing to a great piece of music" to "holy s**t, what's going on?" at the scene where the four kids stood around the cross holding each others hands and finally starting to inaudibly scream, acompanied by that aggressive drums. And don't worry, that scene catches me every single time I watch that music video, it is just that impressive. Living in Europe and being born in the early 1980s, you learned a lot what was going on there and you instantly understood the images and knew who the zombies were they sang about.
The control you hear in her voice Is from her background in yodelling. In fact there are some songs out there of her just yodelling. She definitely had a unique voice. Check out ANY song on the "No Need to Argue" album. It won't disappoint. RIP DOLORES 🙏
The cross and children represent a vigil for 3 children killed in a bombing. The lyrics "It's not me, or my family. In you're head zombie" is pointing out the apathy towards conflict zones that most people don't care about because it doesn't directly effect them. RIP Dolores.
its not me, Its not my family" - she has said this meant because she was Irish, she (like most Irish people) and her family didnt support the killings or bombings, there would have been alot of hostility towards Irish people in the 90's in the UK because of IRA activity.
@@alzer6467 I can see that as well. The video highlighted the occupational forces at the beginning. Northern Ireland is still under occupation and has been since the Easter Rising to claim independence for Northern Ireland during World War I. 104-105 years of active occupation.
The song is about an IRA bomb that killed 2 kids in England. Dolores is saying what most of us in Ireland where thinking. We didn't support this violence or the killing of kids in our name.
When I was young, my mother read the paper one morning and was crying. I asked her what was wrong and she tried to explain about the conflict between two groups of people that caused the death of some incident children. Later this song came out and it hit me to the core. I'm passionate about my beliefs, but if someone has a different point of view that's fine, I don't hold that against them.
The front woman's name was Dolores O Riordan she died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication at 46 yrs old found submerged in her bathtub at London's Park Lane Hilton Hotel in 2018. Such a beautiful voice.
She was a big fan of Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Cause its touched her heart when she heard the song after her mum died. She sang the song in a duet with Simon Le Bon a while ago. Duran Duran paid a special tribute when she passed away.
Sadly the scars of the past turmoil can still be seen in Ireland. I was so sad when Dolores passed away, such a talent and gone much too early. The songs "Linger" and "Dreams" are absolutely fantastic and a must listen. They had me as a fan from the first album they released and I own every CD they did. This band is remarkable and it's totally because of Dolores O'Riordan and her haunting voice that is so versatile and carries such emotion into their songs. They have so many good songs it's hard for me to suggest because you'd have a huge list so the one's I did mention will start you at the beginning of this bands journey.

i grew up in Belfast, born there in the 70s, still here, know this song well, things maybe arnt as bad as they were in the past, the paramilitaries' no longer kill people from the other communities, instead they have turned the guns on their own communities to keep themselves in control of the streets , the peace walls separating the communities have been made higher while the paramilitaries have grown more powerful with thousands of members, this song has never made me emotional [maybe desensitized] but for some reason your reaction pulled my heart strings. i know we are living in a tinder box and that it would only take a spark to reignite the troubles, i wish more people could see what this song is saying, thank you Dolores O Riordan, may you rest in peace x

Cranberries - So Cold in Ireland. 'Linger' and 'Dreams' were their first two songs to be hits, but they have many beautiful songs. Love to Delores.
Definitely linger and dreams please
Quite probably the finest call for peace you will ever hear. It’s generally about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, but specifically it was a reaction to two boys who were killed by a bomb.
Dolores O'Riordan our Irish angel, RIP 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I love you!!
RIP dolores
🙏🏼🇬🇧♥️☦️🎶
Dolores is one of five best female rockers ever.
Easily. A goddess, oh to have kissed one of those cheeks.
Ireland!, the lead singer is Dolores o'riordan she died a few years ago RIP
WAR in Northern Ireland in the 70's ( and lasted 30 years ), English soldiers wouldn't leave their country and over 3,000 people died.
I sincerely love how you guys don't pause and talk over the video, I appreciate that
Grew up listening to them when they finally broke into the US music stream being back then that alone was a feat for most bands overseas.
I have listened it few month ago still my one of the all time greats.
90's music deserves tremendous respect. Bands like Cranberries were breaking off crazy hits it seemed almost daily. I remember hearing "Zombie", for the first time, almost as if it were yesterday.
thanks for spreading the word
honestly, can't believe you hadn't heard of them before 😳 they are CLASSIC
RIP Delores
Delores had the voice of a true angel 👼. R.I.P. DELORES O RIORDEN.
Been listening to this since 1993. Still give me my Irish chills everytime. I am 41 now and I will still listen to 91.
One Of The Greatest and Most Popular Meaningful Songs now that her message means way more than ever now in this day in age 2023
Thanks to Cool Ass Couples like you and helping grow UA-cam's Most Popular Growing Entity Reactions
Bad Wolves/Zombie..As tribute to Dolores O'Riordan R.I.P.
shite
It's a great song and they were gonna do the song with her but she was taken before they could record it and so the band done it anyway and donated the money from the song to her children, they had great respect for her and they did a good job and had power behind her words.
So yeah deffo look at the version from them
@@billrand4138 can’t say I agree, the band got a lot of hate for releasing it.
She was supposed to record the vocals the day after she killed herself. The donated the proceeds to her children.
It was a great version of the song.
@@lupo10 i know about the details ,,,but its still shit lol,,,just generic US rock,,,,the origional has soul,,in the music
@@billrand4138 it’s definitely different to the original but I wouldn’t say it’s shit. I have both in my playlists and enjoy both, prefer the vocals on the original but prefer the chord progression on the cover.
Horses for courses though I guess.
This is one of most powerful songs ever written and performed.
Now listen to Bad Wolves version of this song, they was gonna duet the song with Dolores but the day they were to record she died unexpectedly so Bad Wolves went ahead recorded and released the song....all proceeds went to her children
I was hoping someone called out this part. I was checking before I wrote it. Thank you for beating me to it.
Sometimes it's tough watching a new reaction to such a heartbreaking song sung by someone who unfortunately is no longer with us. It just brings you right back. She was a true warrior and advocate for all things good.
This song has such a deep and resonating meaning, about children being killed in a fight that they didn't choose. So sad!😢
From what I read at the time this represents the churches inaction to the murder of the innocent.
r.i.p the woman with a magical voice ... the world has lost a queen
Thaaaaank you for doing my request!!! I love yall!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone look so happy listening to this, guts me every time I hear it
I think they were enjoying the sound too much without getting the message.i thought the penny had dropped near the end,but alas
Yeah, they didn't pick up on the (obvious) imagery in the vid 🙄
She died in her bathtub on 15 January 2018 at the age of 46 in a London hotel.. I am one of her biggest fans 🙏🏻
One of the best songs of all time.
The control you hear in her voice Is from her background in yodelling. In fact there are some songs out there of her just yodelling. She definitely had a unique voice. Check out ANY song on the "No Need to Argue" album. It won't disappoint. RIP DOLORES 🙏
Bad that we will never hear this voice live, RIP amazing Dolores!
It was 2 children not 3
The song is about an IRA bomb that killed 2 kids in England. Dolores is saying what most of us in Ireland where thinking. We didn't support this violence or the killing of kids in our name.
THE CRANBERRIES ARE ONE OF A KIND!
What a pure beautiful voice, left us way to soon, R.I.P Delores
The front woman's name was Dolores O Riordan she died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication at 46 yrs old found submerged in her bathtub at London's Park Lane Hilton Hotel in 2018. Such a beautiful voice.
This song always gives me the chills.
Her voice, those words. One of the best bands of the 90's, so sad Dolores passed away. A truly unique sound.
This song gets me every time. So emotional.
NEXT DO THEIR SONG LINGER.
This song gives me chills EVERY time
Check out their song: Dreams. Totally diff & uplifting feel, but equally awesome
Goddess rest her precious soul. She was an amazing person
This song was written in response to an IRA bombing in Warrington, England where two children died:

And "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland in general:

Great irish band fronted by Dolores O'riordan who was a multi talented singer songwriter but was Aldo hot as hell
Thank you SO much for reacting to my favorite band♥ I miss Dolores O'Riordan every day. They have a couple more well-known songs like "Linger" and "Dreams", maybe even "When you're gone" or "Ode to my family". Hopefully you can react to these too :)
I love how you guys are jammin at the beginning and then the screaming scene starts and you both reacted accordingly. The music is such a bop, but then you realize there’s some horrible shit goin down in the message. It’s a very powerful song. Excellent reaction.
This whole album is phenomenal. Very meaningful to me, personally. Will be forever in my heart. I created my most magical stories to those songs. Every Single One. RIP Dolores
Now you gotta try Bad wolves version of "zombie". Has to be my favorite covers of all time.
i grew up in Belfast, born there in the 70s, still here, know this song well, things maybe arnt as bad as they were in the past, the paramilitaries' no longer kill people from the other communities, instead they have turned the guns on their own communities to keep themselves in control of the streets , the peace walls separating the communities have been made higher while the paramilitaries have grown more powerful with thousands of members, this song has never made me emotional [maybe desensitized] but for some reason your reaction pulled my heart strings. i know we are living in a tinder box and that it would only take a spark to reignite the troubles, i wish more people could see what this song is saying, thank you Dolores O Riordan, may you rest in peace x
The band is from Limerick Ireland and formed in 1989. The lead singer is Delores O' Riordan but unfortunately she was found in a swimming pool dead in 2018 from an accidental drowning. They decided to disband in 2019 because Delores was the sound of the band and without her voice the band could never be the same. They were considered the best alternative rock band of the 90s and won numerous awards.
Love watching your reactions. Love the energy you two bring to your videos. Keep rocking those tunes 🤘🏻
I believe she died in the bathroom in the hotel she was staying at
Such a passionate expression of innocence paying the price of war. Dolores’ (RIP, girl) voice angry, full of pain. The band drives you there until you are banging your head, feeling the whole thing. Time for peace...
She was planning a re release if this before she was killed
She died - she wasn't killed. Tragic, regardless.
Her voice is so unique, no one can ever replace her!!! ~ Momma Dell
You have to do the Bad Wolves cover of this song now 🔥🔥🔥
not really..
RIP BEAUTIFUL DOLORES AND THE TWO KIDS!🙏🏼🤍
Request.
Divinyls - I Touch Myself
Chrissy Amphlett also was lost way too soon. RIP
Hey Kevin, thank you for your request.
@@ShawnandMel4Life Hey Guy! You want to hear the first heavy metal song I ever heard and changed me forever?
Judas Priest - United
I was 10 years old and it was in 1981. My older brother had their 8-track. There is a BBC live video. Memories
Imagine sitting through this with a big smile on your face.....
THIS SONG IS ABOUT THE SOLDIERS WALKING AROUND LIKE IF THEY'RE LIFELESS... A.K.A ZOMBIES... WHAT'S IN THEIR HEAD?? FEEL ME??
And of course about the IRA terrorists blowing up Innocent children in Warrington.
errr no
@@billrand4138 It’s about all the violence on both sides, but was written in response to the Warrington murders. She is saying that they aren’t doing it in hers or her families name..... So how you can make it just about the soldiers (British) is unfathomable.
@@glennrowe2961 that was aimed at the OP mate lol
This song is about the 2 children there was killed by the IRA 1993 at a bomb attack. And Dolores died 2018. R.I.P
Without any hasitation this is one of the most powerfull song ever made..PERIOD!!!
Dolores Oriordan was the singer. She past a couple of years ago. They're a band from Ireland. She was absolutely awesome. She is missed deeply. RIP Dolores.
No matter what I’m doing, the emotion she gives to this song brings me to tears.
She has an amazing voice!!! You both look like you enjoyed it too!
She's an angel
The 90s had so many creative artists!!!!❤️❤️❤️
that little lift of her voice at the end of some of her lines is something specifically gaelic (or celtic -- gaels were celts) and exclusive to the celtic folks in ireland and the scottish highlands and islands.
One of my favorite songs from the 90's.
Dolores was absolutely one of the greatest female front men. She was incredible. Say extremely sad when she passed away. The song was basically praying for peace in Northern Ireland.
They’re Irish, and Ireland has been at war for, basically, hundreds of years.
When I was around the age of 5 or so, my dad showed me this song and I have loved it ever since. 17 now.
i listened to this for the first time 27 yrs ago and luvd it then and still luv it it today
Look in live!!! Congratulations from Resende-RJ - Brazil! I'm love Dolores!
We Miss You Dolores...We still cry. Soft kisses und warm hugs sweet one.
Huge fan of The Cranberries and front woman Dolores O’Riordian’s spectacular voice! Sadly, she passed away in January 2018 and the band broke up in 2019.
Love this song…R.I.P. Dolores O’Riordan 🙏🏽🕊❤️
So awesome! Hearing her say she gave me chills! I know that's what her voice does to me! Love that you both are amazed! She was great! My favorite singer. Sad she left us too soon! Glad you both enjoyed it!
