  • For those looking to invest in cultured pearls Mikimoto is definitely worth considering. These are the pieces that I purchased and they already hold sentimental value (in addition to the intrinsic value.) As Cassie Thorpe would say they offer "generational flex" - at least in my eyes!

    I have a Mikimoto necklace, a ring and earrings, but a few days ago I bought a pearl necklace without a clasp from a jewelry store that is closing but I don't want to fool myself but it is beautiful, with a fairly good luster and like a mirror and I compared it with Mikimoto and Seriously, Mikimoto couldn't beat him. Mikimoto has a great reputation for quality, but there is a whole pearl market in Japan and other countries. What I do want to buy is the ones from Mar de Cortez, even a few Mabe, those are the only ones that cannot be counterfeited or compared to any.

    I believe Mikimoto was the first ever to culture pearls in the world! There is a Mikimoto museum in Japan.
    My dream is their passion noir line!

    I am so excited! Last week I found a Mikimoto necklace with matching posts on an internet website where actual auction houses are auctioning off estates.
    The auctioneers only described it as a pearl necklace with matching earrings. So, I'm thumbing through the pics in the listing and I notice the M+clam shell logo on the last pic and my jaw just dropped. I was like "OMG, I bet these are Mikimoto's!" On the opposite side of the clasp there was a empty post where a pearl should have been and the clasp is sterling.
    I counted 85 +/- pearls on a graduated necklace and knew when the auction went live I would do my very best to make them mine, but honestly I didn't have much hope because surely another bidder would see the same thing I did and know they were Mikimoto.
    So, on auction day I patiently waited for the pearls to come up, as I would bid with vigor. To my shock I only had one competetor who gave up the fight when the bid reached $40. So, I got a beautiful string of Mikimoto pearls for only $50! I can hardly contain myself as I wait for delivery! Once I receive them, I will send them into Mikimoto for grading and hopefully have the clasp upgraded to 14K or at minimum have the missing pearl replaced.

    would love to see your jewelry storage/set up if possible! love your pearl set! also, have you ever had any issues buying pre-loved? it is no easy feat to find honest sellers esp on Ebay!

    • @MalkaLux
      @MalkaLux  3 роки тому

      Sure that is a great idea for a video thank you! The pearls are so beautiful 😍 I agree it is not easy buying preloved jewelry but I cannot resist saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars on designers like Cartier and VCA. My best advice is to do your best to review the feedback and pictures of the seller and then ALWAYS seek a way to authenticate the items right afterward. Especially with eBay you want to initiate a return if needed within the first 30 days of purchase- this way the seller can’t claim you are trying to scam them because you waited so long to return. I thankfully have only had a handful of times that I ever had to return a fake item and I always got my money back. Also, I am going to have a video soon about 2 VCA necklaces that I get on eBay for a steep savings of over 50% off retail! My advice stalk eBay and you will find deals - it takes patience but it does pay off!

    Hello, so you can only tell the grade of the pearl on mikimoto only from the clasp whether it has diamond?

    • @MalkaLux
      @MalkaLux  Рік тому

      Yes, one of the ways to know the quality of a mikimoto pearl is to see if the clasp has a diamond or a pearl. A diamond clasp indicates a higher quality pearl.

      Hi! So I ended up going to Zadoks (your recommendation) this weekend and thank you for recommending! I bought 8mm AA pearls studs. I AM thrilled! Had intended to buy the AAA, which have a beautiful luster w pink hues. You can see the difference between AA and AAA but I also thought the AA were just as beautiful w a little pink hue. And I thought since I knew I could never afford a AAA necklace, thought the AA would match better.
      Great selection at Zadoks in Houston. Paid $1,850.plus tax for the 8mm AA and the AAA were $2,650.) They are GORGEOUS! 💕

    • @MalkaLux
      @MalkaLux  3 роки тому +2

      Hi. The price range depends on if you buy it new or pre-owned. My necklace was purchased pre-owned and I spent about $1200 5 years ago, it has 8mm - 8.5mm Akoya pearls. The retail price for a similar necklace on the Mikimoto site is about $6000. The smaller the Akoya pearl the lower the price. A 6.0mm Akoya pearl necklace with an 18K white gold clasp will retail starting at around $3000 and go up from there.

    If you can buy it for 6k from mikimoto and you bought it for 1,200. I don’t see where the “retain” of value is from. Jewelries aren’t an investment, unless it’s an exceptional pieces that cost million of dollars. I would rather save $ and buy something that’s cheaper with the same quality or spend the same amount for better quality.

    • @MalkaLux
      @MalkaLux  10 місяців тому +2

      The retain value part is when you buy it after market for 1200 and it does not lose additional value. Also, when you buy something cheaper with similar quality and then later want to sell it, it will be worth very little. In my experience, pearls of the same quality without the Mikimoto name are worth far less aftermarket.
