I recently had this issue on a 5S with iOS 9.3, what solved it for me was just installing an active SIM card (device was unlocked). I saw a comment saying this might be an A9 chip issue, I recently set up an SE1 and didn’t have the issue when nothing was in the SIM slot. Maybe it’s because I was on iOS 15, and it’s possible this issue is specific to A9 running iOS 9.

Hi! I’ve read a lot of posts and comments about this issue with ios 9 activation error on reddit. Basically the 6S(+) and SE (2016) model would not activate on ios 9 since 2018, because there was an issue with the amount of signals the antenna chip would emmit. This would not be regulatory. This was discovered later on (2018) and was only effective on ios 9 A9 phones. Thus on why this specific ios was killed off by Apple. So if you have one of those devices on ios 9 that were already activated, there’s a high chance that it will get deactivated. My advice, keep the phone off the internet. Don’t put any sim in it. If you have more knowledge about jailbreaking: jailbreak the phone while u still can and save the Activation tickets. If one day u have this deactivation problem, you’ll be able to activate it manually. Anyway, i hope this helps!
@@Bendaak it’s mostly out of nostalgia purposes that people would get a hold of ios 9. If you use it as a primary device than yes, it’s better to be on a newer version. If it’s not, than it doesn’t really matter. My iPhone SE is still on ios 13, planning on keeping it there.

i think the activation error is because at one point apple accidentally signed every ios version in existense and a lot of people downgraded their iphone 6s to ios 9 on mass. This was back in 2018 but because of that it is now impossible to setup an iphone 6s on ios 9 without activation error to this day
something speical about the 6s plus, such a good cpu at the time, awesome design, great camera, and honestly it deserves all the years software updates.
The activation error is because a long time ago, apple did an oopsie and made the iOS 9 install firmware file public and signed so people could downgrade, and apple realised that and made it so iPhone 6s models running iOS 9 cannot activate!
to fix your activation error you would have to update it to latest ios. sadly thats the thing after apple did something to their activation servers and 6s and 6s+ wont activate no more when on ios 9. you can always jailbreak and activate it by force, but you will lose signal most likely.
just jump start the original battery. cut off one end of usb cable and stick + to + and - to minus and hold it like that for a few seconds. your battery should start charing after that like brand new one.
I rebuilt a iPhone 6s that someone had thrown against a fence. It separated into three pieces on impact and sat In the wet grass all night. I gathered the pieces the next morning and ordered a new screen, battery and home button. Got it all back together and it’s been my most solid backup. Say what you want but they made those phones strong. Maybe not the ones today :(
Wow, the other day I got an old iPad 2 for my tech collection, and I was able to activate it! It gave me one error screen, but it eventually activated and I checked the settings and it was on something like iOS 9.1.5 and I have no idea how I did it.
Man I had the 6s I was waiting for the 7 in black to be in stock to upgrade and I dropped it in the toilet. Immediately upgraded to the jet black and dealt with those micro scratches. Came here from Hugh Jeffrey’s video mentioning this. I like your unboxings of old iPhones and stuff but you have to be realistic about how this whole thing would go. Obviously you need a new battery as it’s been sitting for 7 years. Second, Apple has run the show on software updates since the beginning of their main devices like Mac, iPhone, iPad etc. In order for devices to operate and function normally, to patch major bugs and glitches etc yes you need to update to the latest software. The activation error is because a long time ago, apple did an oopsie and made the iOS 9 install firmware file public and signed so people could downgrade, and apple realised that and made it so iPhone 6s models running iOS 9 cannot activate!
This is like a Jerry Rig Everything video at 7:31.
I still use the earpods I got with my 6S Plus. I just have an adapter to use them with my XS.
I bought a Gold 128GB iPhone 6s back in December 2015! I used it until October 2017 when I upgraded to the iPhone 8 Plus.
to fix your activation error you would have to update it to latest ios. sadly thats the thing after apple did something to their activation servers and 6s and 6s+ wont activate no more when on ios 9. you can always jailbreak and activate it by force, but you will lose signal most likely.
just jump start the original battery. cut off one end of usb cable and stick + to + and - to minus and hold it like that for a few seconds. your battery should start charing after that like brand new one.
The dead battery boot loop will also eventually occur on any IOS device if your battery capacity/maximum output voltage/current goes too low! :)
my iphone5 and 4 do that 2:50 but after 10 times it is done it says i have 0% battery and shows the battery flat logo.
It gave me one error screen, but it eventually activated and I checked the settings and it was on something like iOS 9.1.5 and I have no idea how I did it.
it only affects the iphone 6s/6s plus and se…
Man I had the 6s I was waiting for the 7 in black to be in stock to upgrade and I dropped it in the toilet. Immediately upgraded to the jet black and dealt with those micro scratches. Was pleasantly surprised the phone still worked after being submerged because I don’t think it was advertised as being water resistant.
It's super hard to just find an iPhone 6s on iOS 9. And I remember seeing a few years back saying that they would brick your iPhone 6s if you were on iOS 9.
They did actually. In 2019, my 6s was jailbroken on 9.3.3 and it was dead. So immediately after plugged in it booted straight into activation screen.
And yet it didn’t
@@emilsecker7881 That’s Apple for you. All they want to do is make it harder for people like us who collect phones with older iOS. The most annoying thing I swear is the almost impossible downgrading. Why can’t I just use a IPSW and they be signed? I know to almost everyone it don’t matter. I just hate that I’d have to spend hundreds of dollars finding old iPhones on their original OS.
@@SWOhioSpeedtesting good point. Not sure why you want the OG OS, if it were me I’d update them to the highest they can go

If you try to use 3u tools it has a skip activation function I keep all my devices updated so I never used it but you can try
All in all this shouldn’t be a huge shock.
The issue is this is only an issue on ios 9 on a9 chips. EVERY other device activates just fine on their first version, even a9x i think.
check what version of ios 9 you are on. if you have 9.0-9.1, the error can be mitigated untethered. reply if you see results. to see the ios version, try to plug the device in normal mode into checkra1n. it will say unsupported, but will tell you the version
The activation error sucks. I had to update my 6s which was jailbroken on 9.3.3 to 12.4 back in 2019.
Hopefully you’re not still using that ancient unsupported thing

In 3UTools (For Windows) there is a Button „Skip Activation“. Maybe that could work? In this case you dont have to install iTunes.

This iPhone did not need a battery, only the battery with a long period of time that was not used in it no longer had energy, you only needed to open the phone and charge the battery in a direct way by + and - for a few minutes after that it will work fine 👍🏽👍🏽
Don’t f*ck up is a good motto👍👍👍
This is the only iPhone I'll *ever* want.
Quick question... If I bought a phone that has been in store for two years sealed would you recommend it??
It’s fine. I bought a new/sealed SE which was manufactured in 2016 according to the serial number 6 months ago and it works fine. The battery worked but would die around 15% so I had it replaced and the device is working perfectly.
@@Bendaak so essentially 2 years or 3 years.. You have to have the battery changed right of any smartphone device right ??
@@Sammy36843 No, 2-3 years is probably fine for an Apple battery because Apple batteries are very good quality. If the battery has been lying for 5+ years then it may need replaced. All batteries are different though so it’s a crapshoot. You never know for sure if it needs replaced until you actually use it for yourself.

Would a iOS 9 backup restore bypass it?
No you can only restore a backup after having activated it
If this is a brand new iPhone, you should have a warranty, APR can check this with device SN, Apple can replace battery for free or fix it.
Yeah but most likely they would update it to ios 15
The boot loop doesn’t make sense, despite it is willingly placed by Apple. We have videos of original sealed an opened iPhone 5, which where 10 years in hypersleep without any bootloop at all…the iPhone 6S is 3 years younger…so something isn’t right here, hm?
Because the high battery and the big size screen like a iPad I watch unboxing of old iPads and they bootloop the way yo fix it put it on dfu mode for couple hours then it boots up again I wander why didn’t work
@@OmarmoX-l 91Tech put it on DFU mode for a few minutes before giving up… that was probably the problem.
iphones bootlooping when not getting voltage from the battery, and if voltage of battery gets too low BMS cut it off = battery charging won't start and bootloop
