    This is the first time I've ever seen grain shown in a truly VISIBLE and understandable way in a video on UA-cam. Well done. I've forward the link to this video to several golfing friends so that they might better understand how to read grain.

    Thank you very much.
    flipping your hand, walking backwards, and reading the edge of the hole to understand the slope are the gems.

      @@CraigHocknullGolf I like how you’re clear and to the point with your instructions. You don’t add fluff. I think golf instruction should be simple to be most effective.
      I’m working thru your content right now. I’ll let you know if I find something missing. But I would like to hear your approach on the course plus some drills to improve short breaking putts (ie. 4-5 footers that break anywhere from edge to 1-2 inches). I have trouble picking a line and deciding on pace. Thanks!

    How much time are you allowed to have for reading and preparing for your put ? And, are you allowed to wear polarized sunglasses to assist you in better seeing the grain of the greens? Thank you for your instructions

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  3 роки тому

      Great question! Firstly yes you can wear polarized glasses that may be able to assist you in seeing color change of the grain. If you are the first player to play you are allotted 45 seconds to without undue delay, arrive at your ball, assess the situation, complete your green read and execute the shot. If you are player two and three you get a lot more time to assess the situation before I you would be in breach of delay of play. On the green it is a little different. A lot of players take more time. Although it is an issue of slow play I have never seen anyone put on the clock or penalized because they are taking too much time in reading greens. If you go through everything that I discuss in my videos you should be able to get faster and faster with more experience. Best of luck let me know how it goes.

    So the ball is going toward where the water is running off the green?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  2 роки тому

      Gravity is going to pull the ball down hill. As you look at where water would flow across the green you may be able to see how the slopes would influence the ball. When putting to the hole you can see the location of the hole and figure out where to putt the ball to either go with gravity or fight gravity in order to sink the putt.

    This is how green reading should be done. Nice job!.
    I know every break and grain direction and slope for every green I play on. As a matter of fact, I can read those greens at midnight with nothing but a burning candle in my hand. I venture to say that I can read them as well as any pro on the planet. How? Cause I "cheat" . Yes I call it "cheating" because it greatly simplifies green reading and therefore should be illegal. What am I talking about? They're called "Green Books" but should be called "cheater's books". Those magic little booklets EVERY pro has in his/her back pocket. Ever wonder why those pockets are so huge?
    Now if you had those books and a professional caddie, you too could become a robot like the pros. Yes they still have to execute but without the pressure of worrying about whether the read is correct. That's a BIG deal.

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  3 роки тому +1

      The books are great! I thought you were going to say that you could read them at midnight because you can feel the breaks with your feet and balance. Great green readers leave no stone unturned! Thanks for your comment.

    Is the dark side and shiny side rule the same in the Southern Hemisphere or is it the opposite

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  2 роки тому

      It’s the same. The reason why it’s dark is you’re seeing the shadow under-sided of the grass. When the grass leaf is laying down away from you the sun reflects of the back of the leaf. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the sun. It has more to do with the plant having a natural desire grow down hill toward water.
