  • This Kung Fu Flute was inspired by David Carridine's flute played on the Great Wall of China.
    It has the 7th century Shakuhachi scale. Available at:
    eriktheflutema...
    The early funding gathered from this flute helped us to build a children's home in Nicaragua with kids who were rescued from a garbage dump.

    This music is so calming & soothing. I could listen to it all day. It truly does remind me of Kwai Chang Caine.

    Thinking of Friend Erik as we played one of his flutes at an outdoor wedding Saturday. Thank you for the tribute to David Carradine, who lived a truely exceptional life. Remember him as he lived, not as he passed...

    I bought one of these from your website a few months ago, and finally got decent enough with it to where I could incorporate it with a bass-line I made. I was absolutely astounded with how well you can record with these flutes that you make. I just bought your Irish low D and your pennywhistle in D. I can not wait to create more enchanting songs with your flutes. I will have to save up for the Arabian, for I believe that is my next venture. Thank you for the high quality instruments you create!

    Nothing better than connecting to the creator when meditating with and creating enchanting music. Such an amazing feeling its a firework show with the spirit and mind. I resonated with your sax the most. I hope i can learn it by ear and enjoy it like a handpan/ rav drum. The pure improv of that sound would make my soul very happy thanks for making an awesome product im excited for mine to come

    I got one of these about a year ago, and it's beautiful, exactly what I had been searching for. I used to play clarinet and I was wanting a woodwind to play around with. Mine seems a bit flatter than the one you're playing here (or maybe it's just my playing). Quite difficult to hit the higher register also (again maybe just me). I keep it around my living room and everyone that comes to visit spots it almost immediately and has to give it a try. Fun times.

    Just got my flute today. It's a real nice flute but wow does it hurt my wrists to play it. I have a few physical disabilities like scoliosis and also missing a thumb muscle in my left hand. Between not being able to rotate my head very far to the left and limited mobility of my thumb I REALLY have to stretch my hands and wrists and have to use a strange but awkward fingering method to get everything to line up. Even then the holes on the flute are so big my fingers have trouble filling them lol. Getting all of the holes fingered is very tough for me(lol). Very nice and good looking flute though. BTW this is my first flute.

    • @ErikTheFlutemakerCom
      @ErikTheFlutemakerCom  10 років тому +3

      You might want to try putting some tape over the back hole until you relax more with the flute. You can get the same high do note by blowing harder. Also use the pads of the fingers to cover the holes , skip the middle finger, and angle the top fingers to best fit the flute and relieve stress. Sorry about the struggle. If you decide to retun it for a smaller flute might be something we can do in the Fluture. Erik

    To answer your question, yes I would advise this flute for a beginner. I just got my hands on this flute about a month ago and I have had no previous experience playing any type of flute, but I was still able to play it right away. And the scale is melodic, so you get a good sound just by going up and down it one hole at a time.

    Finally got a small Chinese flute & actually made notes 😁.
    I'm not too bad with martial arts after 45 years (Shoalin and Tàijíquán "mostly" ☯️🙏).
    My favourite weapon or form is a simple staff.
    Someone actually asked if I am Asian, this I took as a compliment. I'm trying to learn Chinese and Spanish to help my shifu.
    I can't wait to walk the beach in my white Tai chi Fu while playing a flute. (that's also a staff,sword & spear). I already get some curious looks especially if I'm resistance training on the bars etc.
    Then I can just sit or walk peacefully in my Tai chi Fu " El maestro de blanco" I hear people say 😁👍☯️🙏
    Name of the song please ?

      Hi Joshua: Great question!
      WHY DID YOU MOVE AWAY FROM BAMBOO KUNG FU FLUTES?
      We had to move away from the Kung Flute in bamboo for the following reasons.
      1) Folks were not happy if it had a curve.
      2) My leather guy left who made the braided strap and put on the Cocobolo.
      3) After harvesting some older bamboo, they split all over the world and we had a lot of work to remake and resend internationally at a very high price.
      4) we exhausted all our bamboo
      5) Most of the time the extra 9 inches of bamboo sacrificed a nice $105 flute
      6) People wanted concert tuned ones and very few came out.
      7) When they would crack we would have to replace them.
      8) Now in Carbon Fiber they are all concert tuned in D, do not crack and are straight.

      @ErikTheFlutemakerCom  10 років тому +1

      Hi Dan: There are some tutorials in the video at my Oriental page you can review. Also where I answer questions at the bottom of my website that might help. Bottom line, is hold flute near the mouthpiece no fingers on holes yet. Press and roll flute and blow from a soft grin. Look in the mirror to make sure you are not puckering. A hole creates huff and frustrates and soft line creates a good split. Blow across, not into the hole. Hope this helps, Erik
      Don't give up the rewards are breath taking. Erik
