  • [REAL TIME VIDEO] Your new stamps arrive and all of a sudden you're struck with designer freeze! I've been there, and today, I'll start from scratch with a stamp set I've never used before. Will it be cute? Or a hot mess? True, I'll go to some tried and true techniques, but I will talk you through some of the design decisions, plus we can have a live chat during the premiere! I filmed this "live" in my craft/dining room so that I could premiere it and we can chat as we go! If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer during the premiere! Or, if you catch this after the premiere, leave a comment for me below! All the supplies I'm using are linked below!

Great video and I really like the way the narrative went. I like to hear what’s going through your mind as you worked on it. And I’m glad it’s not a full live with a chat. I know lots of folks love the chats but for me they are distracting with all the “hi” to so-and-so and the responses to a comment that was written a while ago. Your sharing of your thoughts as you create is what I really am looking for as I learn from your thoughts and reasons for doing, or not doing, things.

I really love that you explain the card elements in terms of design. I follow other crafters on UA-cam, and it they don't really explain why they chose certain colors, textures, etc. They just make it seem like instinct, which doesn't help when I go to make a card.
    Thank you!!!

Thank you for doing this series. This is my biggest struggle with cardmaking. I tend to spend more time researching others' ideas for using a particular stamp set, then I run out of time or patience for making the actual card. I want to do more creating on my own and less "borrowing" someone else's idea. Thank you, thank you, thank you again for doing this series!!!

This is fantastic! The new “thing” always gets the love while all the other stuff gets thrown to the side. This makes me want to go through my stamps and such to see what I haven’t used in a long time.
Edit: this topic could apply to everything we own. I would love to see this with other things too, like embossing powder, markers and all the other things we “have” to have.

Oh Cathy, I love how natural you are in your videos.
0:42 you say we don't want four minutes of you sitting there pondering... I say "it only takes you 4 minutes?" 🤣
2:40 "oh there's me in a little circle" I like seeing you in the little circle while we watch you creating.
I loved this video, thank you for discussing the ensemble and your thoughts on where to put the sentiment. I'm never sure if what I'm putting together will appeal to anyone else, I have no confidence in my design ability. I don't know why some things work and others don't.

Cathy this is a FAB video!! It was truly helpful to watch you go through the process of putting the card together, especially without having an idea to begin with. I have that same stamp set, as well as MANY others, that I’ve never used. I see a set & buy it with an idea in mind. Often by the time the stamp arrives I’ve forgotten my idea & I have no idea what to do. This will be a fantastic series & helpful for so many of us. Thank you so much for your time & your teaching of what you know. Hugs to you. 🥰

This is so helpful. I have a fair few stamp sets that I have never used mainly because I have no idea, but what I learned today is that I just need to get them out and play with them and see what works together. I liked the sentiment on the flowers, but I preferred where you ended up putting it - it almost helped to frame the flowers with the white space at the bottom and the right, like a back to front L. Thanks Cathy, yet another great tutorial. xx

So I watched the live video today and loved it! I've been trying to reorganize my craft room for the 1000th time, when I came across some BORDER STAMPS! I mean...flat out nothing but pretty border stamps you could supposedly use across your card somewhere. Another one of my impulsive purchases before I really knew that I wouldn't be able to come up with an idea how to use them. I don't know if you have any or could or would even want to come up with a "why did I buy that border stamp, now what? video. Just thought I would throw that out there lol!!

I can date when I started but only because I bought a magazine and saved it! 1992 - and, really, way before the advent of UA-cam. We had bulletin boards, and demos, but they posted photos before and we did basically chat. Now, of course, you can find anything to do with card making online. I really like this idea of hearing the thought process behind the finished product. Enlightening. Ty!

Yes! This is a necessary series. I buy too many Stamp Set based on cards I've seen in videos or Instagram. Once I have the stamp set, within a couple of weeks, I have forgotten the inspiration and feel frustrated when I don't know what to do with the stamps. I'd love to know how you approach designing a card. Also, I saw a suggestion as to how to use the multitude of backgrounds that we all have laying around. That would be helpful as well. So great to watch your process. You're right- there is no wrong decision-- both sentiment locations will work, but they result in a different vibe. I personally like the separation as everything else overlaps, so I like the distinction in the sentiment standing alone. Additionally, the message-- especially in this time-- is simple yet powerful, and it jumps out more this way. I absolutely agree with the sentiment placement. So often we see a lovely and harmonized or integrated design, in this case soft swirls and curves and then its covered up, broken up with the sentiment placement. Then the sentiment grabs the eye, not the composition. Boo. So glad you are open to considering each design and card individually. Sometimes the design should be able to stand on its own with the words just a complement or message rather than them becoming an interruption. My two cents. . .

Very helpful video, Cathy! Thanks! I had to condense it a bit since I only had 33 min to watch, but I managed it. I'm an experienced stamper (started in / around 1993) and I liked your final card. I think I might have tried the "sending love" strip on the bottom right, even if it meant moving a leaf / branch just slightly to accommodate it. The main focal point of the card is that bunch of three blooms in the upper left, so I would try to balance that by adding something to the bottom right. Just my idea... I'd have to see it before I could truly endorse that, however. Loved the video. Clicked thumbs up. Subscribed.

Hi Cathy, I just happened upon you, if you know what I mean and I was mesmerised by your humour. I love how it's as though you are speaking to a friend. I loved the new background video and carried on to watch this one. As you are asking about the placement of the sentiment I will comment. I do like where you ended up placing it but I wanted you (I was actually speaking to you but you didn't hear! ha ha) to try placing it half across the top leaf and half on the card. Thank you for your inspiration and I will look out for you again. xxx

I like the sentiment in the flowers it brings your eye in & ends the card. (Pulls it together like you mentioned) The finish card is fine too but then I felt like it needed like pearls, sequence, or 3 dots in the upper right corner to balance the lower black saying. There is only right ways, no wrong ways. Next time you get to do it differently. Card turned out lovely. I do hate it when card makers do fabulous coloring, or watercoloring & then cover up the middle of all that lovely tedious work with a big saying. Agree with your decision on the shorter words. That was fun, you made a great card.
