- [REAL TIME VIDEO] Your new stamps arrive and all of a sudden you're struck with designer freeze! I've been there, and today, I'll start from scratch with a stamp set I've never used before. Will it be cute? Or a hot mess? True, I'll go to some tried and true techniques, but I will talk you through some of the design decisions, plus we can have a live chat during the premiere! I filmed this "live" in my craft/dining room so that I could premiere it and we can chat as we go! If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer during the premiere! Or, if you catch this after the premiere, leave a comment for me below! All the supplies I'm using are linked below!

Yes! This is a necessary series. I buy too many Stamp Set based on cards I've seen in videos or Instagram. Once I have the stamp set, within a couple of weeks, I have forgotten the inspiration and feel frustrated when I don't know what to do with the stamps. I'd love to know how you approach designing a card. Also, I saw a suggestion as to how to use the multitude of backgrounds that we all have laying around. That would be helpful as well. As ever, thank you!
helen schneiderman omg you’re living my unspoken, unadmitted weakness! (At least to my husband lol) so glad I’m not alone!
My thoughts exactly
I have the same problem, so now I take a photo on my phone of the card that inspired the purchase as well as the stamp/die. I keep them in an album called ‘purchased” so I know how to find it again. Makes it so much easier and I can go thru it to see my purchased items and I don’t double up. ❤️🇦🇺
@@MissChelle Great idea keeping the pic with the stamp! I take a pic, move it to a folder called card ideas, then forget I have the pic, then can't decide how to use the stamp. 🙄😁
“I hope they don’t feel bad!”
Haha i love her so much.
Oh Cathy, I love how natural you are in your videos.
0:42 you say we don't want four minutes of you sitting there pondering... I say "it only takes you 4 minutes?" 🤣
2:40 "oh there's me in a little circle" I like seeing you in the little circle while we watch you creating.
I loved this video, thank you for discussing the ensemble and your thoughts on where to put the sentiment. I'm never sure if what I'm putting together will appeal to anyone else, I have no confidence in my design ability. I don't know why some things work and others don't.
Oh thank you!
I've just added a bit more to my original comment.
Great video and I really like the way the narrative went. I like to hear what’s going through your mind as you worked on it. And I’m glad it’s not a full live with a chat. I know lots of folks love the chats but for me they are distracting with all the “hi” to so-and-so and the responses to a comment that was written a while ago. Your sharing of your thoughts as you create is what I really am looking for as I learn from your thoughts and reasons for doing, or not doing, things.
This format was REALLY fun to try. I liked chatting after the fact, you know? Doing a premiere (and that was a first for me) was really fun! Will be doing this again!
Yes I don’t really like wading thru all the Hi’s to this person and that person to get to the meat of the video info! Cathy I love you sense of humor and how you are with yourself. Kind and funny!
Also, don’t forget everyone, utilize those cellphones and snap a picture of your pre-glued, die-cut i arrangement to help you replicate the arrangement as you glue the pieces down. And take a picture of the finished product, too, so when you give it away, sell it, whatever, you can remember what you did and make it again at a later date
I always forget this!
Thank you for your tutorial very helpful easy to follow
Hug's Lynda xx
I made 2 cards today and forgot to photograph AGAIN! Every time I forget and can never replicate
"Common margins are my jam".....that's when I lost it. I 💝 this channel so much. I was unaware you could emboss with a stencil. Today I learned.
Thank you so much!
I am so pleased you moved the sentiment. I was shaking my head, saying no no no, don't put it there!!! The bouquet was your focal point, you needed separation. It looks BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for a great video. I agree with Laura Bassen, you're brilliant! I look forward to more in this series.
The clothes pin is such a great idea!
Nooooo! I subscribed, liked, circle of you and coffee on hand!!! This is so different and cool! I'm also a hot mess and excited to watch your videos!!! Live crafting is the best! I love embossing! Funny, how I look at my phone and was shopping for embossing powders then ran into your tutorial. You have me hooked! Thank you!!
Thanks for subbing! Hot messes unite!
Thank you for doing this series. This is my biggest struggle with cardmaking. I tend to spend more time researching others' ideas for using a particular stamp set, then I run out of time or patience for making the actual card. I want to do more creating on my own and less "borrowing" someone else's idea. Thank you, thank you, thank you again for doing this series!!!
You are so welcome!
Same!!!
I do the same thing especially with the card kits from 2 subscriptions. I do get compliments tho from the CASEing (LOL), and like others have said, I get stamps after seeing a demo but when they arrive I've forgotten where I saw the demo (ROFLOL)
Love your design explanations. They help me to think through my own designing using my own stamps. Since I don't have many dies I use masking to achieve my layered look. You are very inspiring. Thank you.
What I love is the simplicity of the card. Simple is always good 👍👍👍
Cathy, I have followed you for years...I not only do I love your scrapbooking and card making style, I love your personality.. You always make me laugh and smile !! Thank you for that you do.. You definitely inspire. 😊❤️
Thank you so much!
Thank you for being so real in your video. It's validating for those of us who sometimes agonize over our card making. Also, I like where you put your sentiment! That's where I would have put it.
You are so welcome!
You did AWESOME! Keep those videos coming. Love the simplicity as well as elegance of your cards. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!
I really love that you explain the card elements in terms of design. I follow other crafters on UA-cam, and it they don't really explain why they chose certain colors, textures, etc. They just make it seem like instinct, which doesn't help when I go to make a card.
Thank you!!!
You inspire me. Most of the videos are detailed you make it seem a little more workable. I can relate my craft room is a closet and when I need to use my machines I wind up in the dinning room. And I love when you address your viewers not that you hear us yelling back at you 🌹☺️ Great job and thanks for all your get tips.
LOVE your videos Cathy! The ideas, the design information, how authentic you are, and your awesome humor.
Thank you!
Your design was perfection. I used to buy Simple Scrapbooks just to see your designs I have never actually made a scrapbook. Showing ways to determine how to use a stamp set is something that we really need to see. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you so much, Karen!
Cathy, I’m have been binge watching all of your UA-cam videos. I woke up Wednesday at 3:21AM and you were still making cards. So now I have to figure out where fell asleep. I really love your more recent videos. I like seeing your face and love your “quirky” personality. I hope you are not offended. Remember you will always have new viewers and they will have varying degrees of experience.
Oh wow!
Thank you!!!
Kathy, making these videos is a good idea and I hope you continue. I have been making cards and building up my stash and confidence for about four years, but I learned helpful things today about my process. Comments like, “makes everything three times” really helps me to forgive myself for not getting it right the first time. Actually, I am finally moving beyond the concern for perfection, but reinforcement is a good thing! Now I am thinking about those card makers that found their love of paper crafting during a pandemic and don’t even have someone to guide them. You are doing the right thing and it is a gift to others. Thank you!
This is fantastic! The new “thing” always gets the love while all the other stuff gets thrown to the side. This makes me want to go through my stamps and such to see what I haven’t used in a long time.
Edit: this topic could apply to everything we own. I would love to see this with other things too, like embossing powder, markers and all the other things we “have” to have.
Couldn't agree more!
So I watched the live video today and loved it! I've been trying to reorganize my craft room for the 1000th time, when I came across some BORDER STAMPS! I mean...flat out nothing but pretty border stamps you could supposedly use across your card somewhere. Another one of my impulsive purchases before I really knew that I wouldn't be able to come up with an idea how to use them. I don't know if you have any or could or would even want to come up with a "why did I buy that border stamp, now what? video. Just thought I would throw that out there lol!!
Oh boy! I have almost NO border stamps but that is probably because I came later to card making!
@@czdesign that's okay!! I don't even remember when I started making cards! I know it was a long long time ago. I was scrapbooking and then I had scrapbooked my 3 children. I was thinking..now what do I do with all this crap!! Then I discovered card making and thought..well..yes..I could use the same supplies for cards! It was all downhill from there! I got sucked into the cardmaking world rabbit hole lol! I'm trying to stop purchasing and start making more. I have visions of my children when I pass saying "what the hell are we going to do with all this "?
I can date when I started but only because I bought a magazine and saved it! 1992 - and, really, way before the advent of UA-cam. We had bulletin boards, and demos, but they posted photos before and we did basically chat. Now, of course, you can find anything to do with card making online. I really like this idea of hearing the thought process behind the finished product. Enlightening. Ty!
I think it’s great that you did this video because it shows people that you don’t always have to have a plan in mind and it develops as you go and I just found that refreshing
I hope you keep making this type of video because I love to make cards while listening/watching along! Your voice and humor is so soothing and of course, your design style and tips are perfect!
More to come! I am REALLY excited about the next one… coming mid week!
i AM SO GLAD THAT I LUCKED UP ON THIS VIDEO!!!!! I JUST LEARNED ONE TECHNIQUE USING THE STENCIL WITH Distress inks and a baby wipe. Now the dry emboss technique with a stencil. I'm too happy . This has taken my card making to another lever. I have quite a few stamps and that technique was awesome!!! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your great videos!!! Keep doing what you love and Happy Crafting!
Glad it was helpful!
Love listening to you talk and teach. You are funny but helpful at the same time. Thank you for the videos you share with us!
You are so welcome!
The card also observes the rule of 3rds and grouping things in 3's. This was great to watch, thank you for allowing yourself to be vulnerable in doing this and for your courage.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Please continue this series! I watch card making videos while I sit surrounded by tons of craft supplies, not always knowing where to begin. Many say to just "play with your stamps". Need more help than that. Watching you talk through the process was great. Your presentation is always simple but informative and done with such entertaining humor! I don't miss any of your videos!!!
Thanks, Michele! I am going to start poking around for another set I haven't used yet and see what shakes out for the next one.
This is so helpful. I have a fair few stamp sets that I have never used mainly because I have no idea, but what I learned today is that I just need to get them out and play with them and see what works together. I liked the sentiment on the flowers, but I preferred where you ended up putting it - it almost helped to frame the flowers with the white space at the bottom and the right, like a back to front L. Thanks Cathy, yet another great tutorial. xx
You are so welcome!
Yeah! This is me! Great at buying but now what? Love how you play to your strengths and showed your thought process and why you choose it! Can wait for the next one
Awesome! Thank you!
Love the card, but love you more. Your videos are not only informative but entertaining as well. As you talk to us and walk us through the process you sound like I do in my head while I’m working out a project. Keep the vids coming. They’re great!
Oh thank you!
Love the embossing with a stencil.....Thanks for the reminder on how to do that. Your card is beautiful!
Thanks so much!
You are so real, down to earth and funny. Love you 😄
Loved the small insight into your creative brain and how you start your beautiful projects. Keep the videos coming, I'm so enjoying! You cracked me up with your Ellen quote "my point, and I do have one." PS. I love Bob Ross too.
Have you seen the Bob Ross stamp set? It's precious!
I have not!
Very cool😎!!!! I like that you put the sentiment under the flowers so you can see the whole arrangement. Sometimes things get too covered up!! I have many stamps I get and then am stuck this was really cool!!
I like where you put the sentiment. It balances between the leaf and flowers without detracting for them.
It really helps to hear your thought process as you make decisions. Cathy love this series!!!!! Appreciate you taking the time to edit the video.
Thanks for watching, Cindi! Got a new one coming Thursday at 7 p.m. CDT!
I love that you’re real.
Yes, please. More videos like this.
I loved the card and your video. I kept thinking, “no don’t put the sentiment on that flower!l” I subscribed so I look forward to your future videos.
That's what I thought too Betty. I think Cathy is so talented and lovely with it.
Loved this video! Thanks. I did have a chuckle to myself when you said you were looking for a brick. I tend to prefer glue too, and use my steel pounding block to weigh cards down.
I always call my acrylic blocks bricks. Lol. But I usually don't record myself live! ha!
Loved this card! It was wonderful to hear your thoughts as you designed the card. I never thought of making a template for the die cut but that seems the perfect solution to getting the image centered. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I love watching the process it helps me know I’m not crazy with my own process. Loved the card. One thing I’ve found is if my sentiment goes over my design my design reaches evenly eg top and bottom. If I’m setting it of below as you have done I create a little white space for that sentiment strip. Love your work
I'm so happy I'm not the only one with this dilemma, new stamps, background stamps, and also stencils...now what do I do? To many are in the, waiting to be used bin. I love that you're doing this series. I'm so ready for this! Thanks ever so much, Cathy!
I love watching your videos! You always make me smile because you are so honest!
I try! Honestly, I still feel somewhat new to card making (I mean, compared to how l long I've been scrapbooking!) and I love it so much!
I love the way you did this video! I’m always trying to figure out what to do with my stamp sets. Please make more of these videos!
I just love your ability to be so real. It makes you relatable and entertaining. 💖💖💖
I really enjoyed this candid video, thanks for the inspiration and the smiles!
Glad you enjoyed it!
OMG that's the god dame cutest wee stamping platform I have ever seen just love it so, I need one of the smaller ones just like this wee one, card is just stunning xx
I love the way those flowers came out
I love hearing your thought process. I have a tendency to rush through a d it becomes a mess. Thank you, Cathy.
I would have tried the sentiment lined up on the right side overlapping the leaf before locking it down, but then I usually put the sentiment lower right. They always seem to work better there for me. Fun to watch your process.
That's a great idea!
That's exactly what I was going to say.
Loved the video...and the card! It’s good to know that someone out there does things simply and beautifully. I needed to see this, Cathy. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Cathy, we are in Scotland and my husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bob Ross. The way he raps his brush to clean it and gives a little chuckle and they way he always says “God bless my friend” at the end and gives us a little wave! Makes us giggle every time - what a talented man! Love these flowers - think I’ll invest in a set of the blender brushes. X
I find Bob to be the most relaxing person to have ever graced a television. He left us too soon!
This is great. I have stamp sets never used. This is a very needed series.. Thank You. Definitely will look for more of these.
So glad!
I've had this stamp set for awhile now too and only used it once or twice. Thanks for the inspiration to use it again. I forget about embossed resist & love the soft look of it. Love this new series :)
Have fun!
Terrific video. I love how you walk us through your thought process and apply the design techniques. And, I’m encouraged that we have similar experiences and hesitations. Thank you for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
You go girl. I don’t know why you ever doubt yourself??? You do a wonderful job! Consistently.
Hello Cathy, Your card is lovely. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the next new stamps now what video. Have a lovely day!
Thank you so much!
Cathy, you are so WONDERFUL and BRAVE...designing live, I'm sure, is quite stressful but you know what, this was sooooo beneficial to me! I can't wait for your next educational tutorial in this series because I just want to get better with design theory. Thank you so much and until next time....
Thank you so much!
Love how this turned out!
Loved the video and looking forward to more of the series.
I love this - the process and the final outcome. I've been in a rut for weeks - crafter's version of writer's block - but after watching this, I'm feeling creative again. ☺
You can do it!
Very nice card! This set has been on my wish list for awhile. Enjoying this series too. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks for watching!
There is no right or wrong decision. Just have fun and make yourself happy. Your card is lovely.
You give us such inspiration and knowledge with your series. Please keep up the great work. This card was beautiful, so clean and simple. Love that you chose to put the sentiment lower. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!
Beautiful card Cathy, and a very timely topic for me as I'm organizing my stamp sets at the moment. It took me FOREVER to decide just how I wanted to do that but it's coming along nicely and I'm almost done (I think). Thanks for sharing your creativity and your fun personality - I love it!
You are so welcome!
Love this new series idea and look forward to upcoming episodes! Not only is it so interesting and educational as you take us through your process and choices and why, it’s also very brave of you to take us along as you find your way. Kudos and hugs to you!
More to come!
Very helpful. Good to see the process and hear your decision making thoughts. Beautiful card. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Another great video. Love the beautiful simple design. Thanks for sharing with us.
This was very helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Pretty card. Looking forward to the series.😊😊
Great tips for those of us who buy stamps on the spur of the moment after watching a video with those stamps. Thanks for all the tips, & I think the sentiment below the flowers was the way to go.
Thanks for watching!
I am really enjoying watching your videos. Your cards are beautiful. And I usually get a chuckle or two from them. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful day 😄
Glad you like them!
Cathy I love seeing your creation thought process!! I will be looking forward to the next video as I am like so many, lots of stamps due to seeing someone use them and I just have to have them. ....... yup still sitting brand new in package!!
Thanks, Rose. A new one is coming Thursday night at 7 central time!
Just found your channel. Yes ... need more of these videos. Love your easy going style! Thank you!
Welcome!!
Where have you been hiding? You tube finally put your video where I could see it and this is wonderful. Going through the design process I felt like I was watching myself. Thank you for sharing and your card looks marvelous!
Hey Melissa, it is weird… i don't know how UA-cam algorithms work. But yeah, I've been making videos now for three years and all of a sudden, THIS video gets more views.
But then, if you make a video that people don't choose as much, UA-cam seems to then push you down in recommendations. It's a strange land but… happy you found me!
Thank you. You are funny as well as full of information. I am such a beginner to this card making. I love your tips on design and colour. I am learning so much.
Thank you so much!
Lifted this to help my mother-in-law make her first ever card and it turned out beautifully! Thx for making easy to follow along tutorials! I love the finished product and might just mass produce these! Thanks for letting us steal your ideas!
So glad you're doing this series! This has happened to me with so many purchases! I love bouquets, but also have trouble arranging them. Emboss resist is absolutely my go-to! I'll take your blender sponges--haha! I love the sentiment on top of the flowers, but I think you made the right choice because the bouquet is toward the top of the panel. If it was centered, I'd put the sentiment on top of the bouquet. Beautiful card & now I want to try embossing a stencil!
Love to hear you think out loud. So very helpful. This a great series idea. Look forward to the next one.
Cathy this is a FAB video!! It was truly helpful to watch you go through the process of putting the card together, especially without having an idea to begin with. I have that same stamp set, as well as MANY others, that I’ve never used. I see a set & buy it with an idea in mind. Often by the time the stamp arrives I’ve forgotten my idea & I have no idea what to do. This will be a fantastic series & helpful for so many of us. Thank you so much for your time & your teaching of what you know. Hugs to you. 🥰
Awesome idea for a series - always learn and enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your thought process as you made the card. Wonderful card! I am excited to try your process Nd tips. Looking forward to your next video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this. Watching you do the card from the ground up was super helpful for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Love the finished card. Thanks for sharing your ideas and tips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m new to your channel and I’m loving how you explain your card making process. I have not done a plastic stencil in my machine but now I’m inspired to do so!!! I also really like how you kept that textured background white and simple!!! Love it!!!!
Thank you so much!
I have this stamp set and have not used it! Great idea for a series. 👍🏻😀
I like the sentiment below the flower 😊
Finally! I understand now how to use the stamps with the die cuts! Silly, I know...your channel came across by chance. Glad it did!
Me, too! Welcome!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I always feel so inspired to make cards when I buy supplies but then when I get them home I forget the ideas. So your video was very timely for me.
Thank you again!
~Laurie
So glad you watched!
loved this - thank you - loved the easy blending too
Glad you liked it!!
I love the sentiment where you placed it! Not on the flowers. So, so, cute.
Glad you like it!
You did make me smile. Good tips on layering foam squares and placement. Thank you 😊
I'm so glad!
This was a really helpful video, thank you so much. I would also love some sort of "mini series", in the same style as this video, but using the same stamp set in a few different ways please. I find that once I have one idea for a set I struggle to come up with something different to do!
Yes, that is a good idea. Or at least I could make more samples to share at the end, which would save time! yeah?
I love your videos, Cathy. The cards are simplistic beauty! Thank you for sharing. Like listening to a friend chat.😉
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
I loved this video...I watch all of your videos, but this one was especially appropriate for me. I always buy stamps when I see them demoed, and then when I get them, I forget why or what I saw that inspired me to buy it. I've challenged myself to do exactly what you showed....pull and stamp and make something. THANKS for doing this Cathy.
You are so welcome!
Sentiment placement - I thought it looked good over the flower and then you moved it down and I was like "yes!". I think you made the right choice 😃
Thanks so much! 😊
I am so grateful and happy you made this video!! Too many stamps and not enough ideas for them.
Beautiful & perfect flower card! 💐
