    I have had my 88 S-10 V* Blazer for 24 (wow) now. When I purchased it from a friend it had already been v8 converted. The previous owner had MD so it had hand controls installed. The first thing I did was but the Jags That Run S-10 book. That book saved me at least $1000 bucks and a couple of hundred of hours of frustration, BEFORE I TURNED THE FIRST SCREW. I didn't do EVERYTHING as the book recommended, but I knew why I chose not to (not guess) and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't in the long run. Mine is a daily driver with a mild SBC and thm350. It has about 170K street miles (by ME) and THOUSANDS OF PASSES DOWN THE STRIP. The biggest problem has been breaking 7.5 rear ends.I am cheap....buy the book first.

      Thanks for this video and it made me more nervous then I was before. Lol. I have an 03 gmc Sonoma sls and debating to do an LS swap or a sbc. I have a mechanic doing it. Not sure which way to go and it’s a show truck.

    • @BentOaksGarage
      @BentOaksGarage  Рік тому

      @@loveja1 I believe the LS is a lot more popular and less issues to worry about. For instance you dont have to set your valves with an LS like you do with an old school SBC. If I were to do it all again, I would have went with LS, more power and a fraction of the cost.

    Not sure if it would change anything with that oil pan, but if you undid the body mounts and jacked up the firewall a few inches it might clear enough to get in there.

    Keep in mind mines a street/strip truck that's arguably illegal for the street part. That said, I gutted mine and made the engine fit with the same pan. I used Holley sniper system including the distributor. All needed a lot of clearing and work.
    My suggestion is ls swap or a basic SBC. If you as in anyone reading this, if you want stock looking and feel will choke the hp and torque of your built motor. Exhaust limits alone...
    Good on the video, thank you.

    • @BentOaksGarage
      @BentOaksGarage  2 роки тому

      I did end up going with Holley Sniper, Hyperspark, 7" digital dash and full 3" exhaust. And left the inner fenderwells out for clearance. But after only 900 miles I got rearended by a lady on her cell phone. I ended up yanking it all out and putting in a 2002 Sonoma. Cheers.

    Brake booster from a 1999 malibu or a cavalier, you just have to change the brake rod, I double checked, this is the booster that will work.

    I have what I believe to be a 60s small block v8 its a 350 Im interested now in putting it in a s-10!! How had is it to do? Never done an engine swap before? Is it fast and how much should I expect to spend? The engine is fully rebuilt.

    • @BentOaksGarage
      @BentOaksGarage  6 місяців тому +1

      It really depends on how far you want to go with it. If you just want it up and running in the s10, don't care about if the dash works or not. Could be as little as 5k. For me, I went all out. I purchased a Holley Sniper fuel injection, 7" holley digital dash, tci super street street/strip th350 transmission. I have over 18k in mine now, and that's before the 5K paint job I'm getting done to it.

    its crazy how this is the oldest swap to date and nobody did a video with like 5.0 5.3 5.7 6.0 engine sith different trans and what to use to get it in the chassis correct but thanks for video im doing a quik 5.0 with 4l60e out of 96 silverado just to have fun

    • @BentOaksGarage
      @BentOaksGarage  Рік тому +1

      Robbie V has a channel where he put a 5.3 and twin turbo in an older S10, pretty bad ass. I have replaced over a dozen 4l60e transmissions over the years and they just dont hold up to any real power. Even a S10 4.3l can burn them out. That's the only reason why I did not go that direction. I did start building a 5.3 and made it boost ready (you can see it in my previous videos) but the person that purchased my 1965 C10 got that engine off me at the same time. www.youtube.com/@RobbyVsGarage

      We started with an Amazon set that was fairly cheap but found out the rubber core could not stand up to the HP we had and switched over to a one inch solid plastic piece that we drilled a hole completely through making it more of a solid mount instead.

    take the cab bolts out and lft the cad up off the rails and put a 4x4 wood block so you have room you need.
    Oh" and don't forget to cut the firewall flang out and why are you leaving the fenders on they will get a thrashing if you don't take them off.

    • @BentOaksGarage
      @BentOaksGarage  Рік тому

      I had to notch the engine crossmember about 6 inches with the factory oil pan. I had to install the engine and transmission as one unit because like you said, once the engine is in, you have no access to the transmission bolt holes.
