Great video. Thanks! I'm going to try it. My wife just today asked me if we could use a much stronger .095 filament that we have on one of those $14 rolls, and I said that I didn't think so. You have now taught me something and changed my mind! This is what is so great about UA-cam.
You are my hero! I hear lawn care professionals I have seen on UA-cam like Husqvarna trimmer line. But the professional line does not come in .065, however, it does come in .095. I will most definitely give your hack a try! I love the Worx Trimmer for home use. It is lightweight and perfect for me since I'm recovering from a back injury. Other trimmers are too heavy. Their 20V system works for my yard which is 800 sq feet. Thank you for sharing this hack!!!
I started doing this the first time my spool ran out, just found same size line, but this is even better to use thicker line, definitely going to try this. Thanks
@@thurm101 the same here I found the second generation model for only $13 didn't come with the battery or charger but that's alright I already have plenty of batteries
I used your advice and it worked like a dream. Worx would do well to do this as an upgrade for their lower tier trimmers. The spools they send give the impression that the tool itself is somewhat 'less-than', when it's really just the cheap trimmer line. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the video! I was just buying some spool line to respool myself but I was buying the same .065 size but thanks to you showing this I’m going to go for the .095 and cut it down like you did to get it to fit! Thanks a lot
Brother, you can also buy 2.00 mm wire (.080inch diameter).. it is accessible and a company called speed pro sells heavy duty professional line (40ft was $3 at home depot) and the fitment is perfect. Made in the USA! I just realized this tonight looking at videos realizing I'm not alone lol but yeah better off getting .080 wire. Stock wire is a rip off! Cpuldnt get through 15 minutes on what they gave me with the machine... figured this out waiting 5 days for another spool to come so I can finish my front lawn... 😒
Thank you for sharing this!!! God bless you for being so kind and instructive right to coming up to the camera and showing the details. I had just bought the Ryno line at 125ft and the .0095 as you shared. I went to Home Depot and they didn’t have the small circles like you showed, and I was looking at that it said it was tough and longer lasting as a pro grade line than traditional residential ones. But when I returned home my husband told me I was supposed to get the spool package you shared and that this line was too big as you showed. So I said well let’s look on UA-cam and see if there’s something on how to and there was a lady who said she linked you into her page because you showed the best way to spool the line... Well and there you were, Awesome 👏. You made my day cause now I don’t have to return it standing in line during this pandemic. You’re the Best! JZ Clark💁🏽🙏🏽👏
Thank you, sir, for posting this tip! I just purchased the Worx trimmer GT 3.0 and yes, noticed how soft the trimmer line is and how quickly you can go through a spool. This definitely saves $$! Subbed to your channel.🙂
I will be getting a Worx trimmer soon. But the 40v trimmer I have now uses that thin 065. I have some 095 that I can use. So I will give that a try. That 095 is a tougher line.
Thats how they are able to sell the weed eater so low a price - they make their real profit from the spools! LoL. Thanx for showing us this. I just ordered a Worx Trimmer and was wondering if one could re-spool the thing our selves without hashing out extra dollars every month. You answered that question quite well.
This is a hack?! I've been doing this since I bought mine! 😊 I went straight to Home Depot and purchase a big pack of line and I've thought twice about it. The one I purchased is stronger than what came with the machine and it fits perfectly inside the notch. I never have to hassle with the trimming it to fit. 😊
Yes! I have to go and try this right now. I was like why does my line keep breaking I'm barely hitting hard surfaces, but you explained it very well. It's just that their line is thinner. On my way to get some Thicker line. Thanks again for this tip brother. Stay safe and God Bless.
Update: Bought same line you spoke of, had to trim down the end like you said to make it fit securely into the starting spot. I wound that string tight as hell into the workx Gt trimmer spool, BUT here's the thing. The second i went to use it, it would over feed on it its own and get tangled under the spool head. Any ideas on what to do? You know the manual line release button thats on the spool head itself, i noticed that when i just pulled on the string it wasn't locking, its as if i was pressing the feed button. I'm not sure what to do at this point.
Another Update. I was putting the line on the spool backwards lol. Re-spooled it the way of the arrows and it works better for sure. For some reason though i still have to feed it out, but it does last longer than the standard string it comes with. One good idea is to get the Free refills once(you pay shipping thats all) and re-spool them ahead of time with the thicker line.
The same company that makes the star shaped filament sells blue colored rolls that will fit on the Worx spools without being trimmed. The overall line diameter is smaller however, yet it's still reasonably tough compared to the filament Worx uses.
I ask them if I could stop by to pick the line up because I was in the neighborhood where they are located so I would save on postage and they said online order only so it shows that the line is not really free. .
That's a good idea considering I came up with it and did the same thing with the same big string u did about 5 years ago and it did work pretty well but I have the 120v corded trimmer with double lines. A real pain to deal with.and the extendable handel is too short and I'm only 5'5.
very comprehensible video. one question. with stronger than original spool does it still cut off if it gets to long. where the blade is. and does it still unwind cleanly (no jamming) Cheers.
Thank you for posting this video. Ive had this trimmer for 3 years now and refill the spool myself but struggle with the results. No matter my effort the string either fuses to itself inside the spool and breaks or the string completely spins out of the spool within a few feet. I've wound it exactly as you've shown. Any advice?
Problem with the command auto-feed? Yes, I do. It seems as if the line tightens while trimming. The bond becomes so tight it stops the feed. I was hoping this video would address this issue.
If you buy the right size line then it should work easier. It's probably 0.08. If you can do a video showing how to replace the factory head with a speed feed head that would be even better.
if you are going to use 095 string all the time, drill a hole that fits the string.....i have two different size holes in mine just incase......i find the smaller heads dont feed well or at all with the heaver sting....
So my works trimmer got a sting or piece of rope around and under where the spool sits . I can’t get it to let go. How do I take the trimmer apart to get it out
Your assumption is correct. .80 and over is for gas trimmers since they have more powerful motors. Like the other chap said it will shorten thw life of your trimmer by stressing the electric motor with a larger diameter string.
Wow, this is quite weird that Worx pushes you guys to replace the line by buying pre-filled spools. I have recently bought their trimmer here in Russia and our shops sell trimmers, optional spare empty spools and third-party bare line packages like yours from Home Depot, of different thickness. And the manual to the trimmer describes the process of refilling the spool with the line. I guess they know we would not buy expensive pre-filled spools when the spool itself serves for long time and you can refill it for cheap. And yeah, their original line is really soft, meh. Cheers!
I just open the hole wider with a drill bit no drill and not too much otherwise it will split the hole and use a 0.95 string with no problems cut about 5ft. Of string and coil it in the spool np. The cuts are deeper more profound and lasts longer
Thanks, this was clear and really helpful. What happens to the motor/string/string holder and string cap when the user reaches the end of the string? It's in there very tightly, and it's very strong, so does it break, pop off the cap, break the string holder, make the motor rev?
after loading the used spool with the new string like this, does the string auto feed button mechanism still work to feed/ lengthen the string automatically? or do you have to manually grab the string with you hand or pliers to pull it out of the spool when you want more string.?
This was the exact same question I had. U think? U sold me on EVERYTHING Else Until The "I Think"... I Guess I'll Have Try It Myself. Thanks For Sure Fur The Heads Up.

thanks for watching the video
why not just use better 0.065 line if the problem is a weak line and not because of the thickness.
Yes you could use a stronger 0.065 but wat I had around was thicker line
I'm going to use a slightly smaller diameter at 0.080 mm. That may allow for auto feed. 0.095 is huge.
Try it and let us know
Thank you so much! My string breaks all the time. I will get heavier string and see if that helps.
Yes it ll definitely help

Wouldn't this thick string strain the motor shortening its life?
I'm no expert but I can't see how. The resistance against the weeds seems to be greater than the thickness of the string??
I agree with Heather, thanks for the input
