My parents had this on VHS many years ago, I thought people forgot about this but now it’s here! Used to watch it all the time when I was bored. Don’t like coasters but it was always fun to watch it
I had this 📼 VHS video, which I loved. Looking back on it now though, it’s so cheesy, and those rides are nothing compared to where we are today … but it was fun to watch nonetheless.
so i had a dvd America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills The Ultimate Screen Machine, basically a deluxe version of The Next Generation, it had the exact same sequence for Desperado at Buffalo Bills as a bonus. as well as Viper at SFGA, Superman Ride Of Steel at SFDL, Steel Phantom at Kennywood, Magnum XL 200 at Cedar Point, and Cyclone of Coney Island.
I remember getting this video and watching it for the first time on the very last day of 4th grade, wondering if I would ever get to ride any of those coasters. So far I've been on 4 of them (Dragon Mountain, Nemesis, Desperado and Dragon Khan) The last one was Dragon Mountain in 2014, so about 20 years after this segment was filmed. In those 20 years anything barely changed, maybe they added a little bit to the supports for the planned theming but that's it. Marineland overall was the most depressing attraction I've ever been to. I won't even go into the conditions the animals were in, the park itself looked like what happens when you're playing Roller Coaster Tycoon and run out of money. A lot of empty fields in between different rides/attractions, where all you could see is flat land on both sides of the path. A lot of locals were coming in with huge coolers full of food (this is also the only park I've been where that is allowed), so it's probably more of a cheap family hangout spot now. I heard for years and from many different sources that Alton Towers was ALWAYS packed and to expect hour plus long lines on every major coaster. Bought a VIP pass before I even traveled over there. I went on the Monday after August Bank Holiday Weekend 2015, every single ride except for Rita or Thirteen was a walk-on, with Oblivion being a literal walk-on straight to the middle of the front row. Was absolutely amazed at world famous coasters such as Nemesis and Oblivion having no line. Ended up using the VIP Pass for the free food, didn't need it for front of the line access to the rides.
Was watching a video about a guys experience at Marineland a few months back. The park hadn’t changed at all, and how it survived the pandemic is beyond me. That park needs to be closed. If the previous and current owners weren’t incompetent crooks, the park would be better off.
I think my dad had this coaster collection sometime in the nineties. His old home theater system had a Laserdisc player (maybe a dual sided player) and its collection, among this LD pack, also had some live concerts,a few Disney products, one w/Sebastian dancing to Caribbean music & Mardi Gras. Now I wish I had those and an LD Player to relive those memories
Just a follow up because I watched this again - As much as I adore these shows, I just have to ask....What in God's name qualified Thunderbolt and Corkscrew to be considered among the world's greatest coasters??????

I had the very original version of this on VHS that came out long before the 3D version. Most of the content is exactly the same but not entirely... There's a couple of coasters missing and the captioning has been altered in a few spots. Also this UA-cam transfer is the wrong aspect ratio.

The screams from this awesome VHS video are forever engrained in my memory.
The music in this video is like Satan's farts after del taco.

I love it how the video just blatantly ignores the Ghost Train fire and all the drama that happened at Luna Park during the 80's.
I absolutely love the music that plays during the Dragon Khan first person view. It's actually quite pretty and chill.

I've ridden only 1 coaster from the show and that was Dragon Mountain at Marineland in Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada.
How long ago was that? Was that before it got depressing and boring?
