Thanks for the detailed disassembly tips. We must have different models. Mine is a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series (3558) that takes DDR3L-1600 SODIMMs, and came from the factory with 6 gigs of RAM. So I was planning on adding an 8G, which presumably will replace the 2 gigger, for a new capacity of 12 Gig.
@@junglist1soldier Not always. This computer ran for years with 4+2. I think the requirement for matching RAM sticks dates back to the era when the motherboard RAM bus was wider than available SIMMs at the time.
Glad to see that Ram can be upgraded. Also, battery removal is so simple but Ram looks a bit tedious to change. Opposite of my dad's ideapad where the battery is difficult to remove but the ram is easily upgradeable
hi just az. how do i get my dvd drive out? I cannot get mine out. its looks a little different than yours. can you give me some more detail for this part?
just az, I got my dvd drive out. i have a ribbon that is connected to the dvd plug on the cover, but I don' where to connect the other end? I disconnected it when I took the cover off, but I don't see where to reconnect it. Please help!! I have the memory in. I just need to put this back together.
Hi Jason, I have the Inspiron 15-3565. My laptop appears to be the exact same model being upgraded in the video. I received my new RAM yesterday and began my upgrade, I believe I did the same thing you did. The video does not show that there is a short ribbon connected from under the motherboard to the DVD drive connector that needs to be disconnected in order to separate the back from the motherboard in order to access the RAM slots. I had already successfully removed the DVD drive. I assumed the ribbon was plugged in like the keyboard and other ribbon type connections on the laptop. However, it appears this ribbon (motherboard to DVD drive plug) was hardwired and not a plug. So I basically tore the ribbon out (destroying it) thinking it was plug-in type, as many other ribbons are. Examining the motherboard I can see the labor and complication involved in replacing that now torn ribbon would not be worth the effort and the prohibitively high labor charges at a computer repair shop. So now my question is do I have a paper-weight here or can I install the RAM and use the laptop without a DVD drive, which I very rarely use anyway. I don't know enough about electronics to know if whether I reassemble the laptop with the DVD drive disconnected, something might short, possibly even be dangerous. Sorry for the long rant, I am very disappointed as this is my son's laptop..
Similar issue, this IMPORTANT element should have been covered. Fortunately, I have the identical laptop as the video. The DVD removes fine, so no threat of damage following THAT portion of the instructions. On this specific model, the cable is a standard flip-down connector. The plug to the DVD was just laying there when I removed the bottom cover, but could easily have ruined the cable or even logic board if it had stuck during cover removal. BUT... THE DVD CABLE SHOULD BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE LOGIC BOARD, as soon as the keyboard is off. That should prevent it from breaking the cable or lb connector by simply sliding out. On re-installation, the DVD plug end should be placed in the appropriate bottom cover slot, then fed back through the hole in the logic board and reconnected before reinstalling the keyboard. Trying to place the cover down on the free-range connector would be next to impossible.
Great video. Simple. Concise. Succinct. Thank you for not showing removal of all screws. I've watched 20 min videos that are less helpful than your 5 minutes video! LOL
Thanks. I have one and it's a slow - memory starved at 4GB for sure, but the hard drive it comes with is a dog as well. I'll upgrade memory and the hard disk too....
@@cruzjoshua53 it's working very well, i recommend it. It doesn't improve disk, but I usually have spotify open, itunes, some desktop chat apps, and a few browsers open. These combined with cloud in the background already add up to 8-9GB normally. I recommend it, but don't expect movies, streams or downloads to get quicker
I've never done this sort of thing myself but I've heard you can have a 4gb and 8gb in the same laptop but I'm pretty sure unless you upgrade the cpu it wouldn't make that big of a difference than if you just added 4gb

Worst laptop I've ever used. My 15 year old laptop is easily better in every way. CPU is 75% tapped with literally nothing running. Do NOT buy this garbage. Good tutorial though.
I have never experienced any Dell Laptop that will not perform basic functions the way this one does brand new out of the box. Absolutely do not buy this for anything other than a boat anchor.

Both RAM's need to be of the same size, 4+4, 8+8 & so on.

Thanks, so much, for this.
My inspiron 15 only came with 2gb RAM, and the suggested max is 4. Should I bother upgrading it?...
Thank you sir
Do you know what the max Ram capacity for this laptop is? It currently has 8GB, can I add more?

my laptop problem when i put charging pin into laptop only white light on continue, not start laptop, how to solve it
Good video but to take out the kb it’s 5 screws not 4
Hi , does this laptop support 204 pin type?
Is the CPU upgradeable?
which one is the best buy? DDR4 or DDR3 for inspiron 15 3000? My RAM is at 8GB but I'm considering adding 8GB more in one shot
More RAM than your CPU can handle isn't advisable. I do wish he was more specific on the DDR3 vs. DDR4.
junglist1soldier I just installed the DDR4 8GB to my empty slot today successfully now at 16GB total for a 2017 model

That's same laptop as mine hope works
Mine doesn’t have two slots
Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series have only one slot. How we can install 2nd 4gb ram?
there are 2 slots one 4gb ram comes pre installed so there is one slot left which we can add 4 gb ram to make it 8
Upgrade that HDD to a SSD and the laptop will perform a lot better.
and where would i buy the ssd from?
