Awesome Don, I do hope you end up trying this cooking method! Let me know how it turns out. Yes nature can be cruel sometimes. It was a very sad day here for everyone.
I had frozen pizza for dinner Jenny and then I watched this! That looks so much better than what I had. Loving your content and watching you live that west coast life just the way it was meant to be lived. Take care.
I worked North of you, in Kitsault, for about 6 months. I do love that area. I had a wild Black Bear lick my cheek. I worked in at a Molybdenum mine. It was an above-ground mine. One day a black bear was down by our bunkhouses looking for treats. I went out to see him. At one point, i had him come up and lick my hand. Somebody moved and made him nervous, so he backed away. I sort of followed him , and crouched down. I was getting ready to stretch-out my hand again, but he was not hesitating, coming towards me, so i just stayed put. He came right up next to me, sniffed at my face, then gave me a couple of licks.
You are absolutely right, this area is so beautiful. I feel like the more North you go, the more wild it gets. Also Wow! What an amazing story. I don't think I'd have the nerves to try to get that close to a bear.
Jenny what a incredibly cool life you are living! Love going on your adventures with you and meeting all the different personalities! Cheers and keep the great content coming!
Awww thank you so much!! I love this comment. There are so many wonderful people that I work with and the area is incredible. I’m so happy you are enjoying the adventures!!
Now that’s the way to cook a salmon, well done. Just Ed subbed your channel and love your vids. Cheers from the east coast, Newfoundland where those dogs originated, and I’m only maybe ten miles from the most easterly point in Canada, Cape Spear.
We are on opposite sides of the country! I’m happy you found my channel. Thank you so much for subscribing. I hope you’re enjoying the videos and you right, this way of cooking salmon is amazing. I hope you get to try it someday thanks again
Incredible the things we can’t afford in big cities are for the taking from our oceans. At my uncles place in N.B, when you were hungry you walked out a bit in the Atlantic and it was a full on buffet.
So true there is so many edible plants and animals in the ocean. I’m from Alberta so I’m really starting to learn more about it all and I feel so fortunate to be able to my belly with gifts from the ocean. Thank you for watching and sharing your story!
That was a real treat to see how the salmon was woven on the stick. Always wondered how it was done. I would love to see how they butterfly the fish. That took some real skill also. Did they bring the Bear in to keep the hide only? Problem Bear? Thank you, another amazing video. I sure miss it there, but the videos are just like being there! Great Job!
Thank you Charlie! The bear was brought in to see how it died. We wanted to make sure that her death wasn't caused by a human, and it didn't appear to be. The butterflying is done starting at the spine of the fish, you have to run your knife along the bones very carefully. I'll try to film that process next time. Thanks again!
Thank you, understand now the belly was never cut open. The belly was at the center of the flay. It came out amazing you can tell buy the color of the fish perfect amount of Smoke.
Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed it, even the very sad ending. Ted gave it a tobacco offering and said a few words. We were weeping like babies in the background. Poor girl.
Awesome looking cookout Jenny. What a beautiful spot for it. What did Ted do with the grizzly carcass? Harvest the hide? Another great video Jenny. 👏👏👍👍👌👌😍😍💖💖
Thank you so much! No harvesting of the bear was done. It was left intact and brought back out into the ocean for nature to run its course. We brought it in to make sure there was no human harm done to it. It looked like it died of natural causes. Possibly another grizzly wanted to mate with its mother and chased it off.
Pretty good work if you can find it eh?, just started watching your videos from "down south" on Vancouver Island, well done. Sad about the bear, these things happen unfortunately.
DidDwayne bring some "Gleetna" (Oolichan Grease) for that BBQ'd salmon and if so did you try any? Also was Ted going to harvest claws and teeth from the Grizzly? Circle of life! Another great video! Thanks!
Hi Rodney! Thank you! Im so happy you enjoyed the video! No harvesting of the bear was done. It was intact when it left here. I got to try Oolican grease a few years ago when I was invited to a potlatch at Owekeno village. It was quite strong, not a flavour that I'm used to but I would try it with salmon.
Hi, love your content, can those cabins be rented in Wadham?? My family and I would love to come up during our trip up the inside passage from Victoria in 2025 to say hello.
@@JL-uj6ks hi there! Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re enjoying my Good Hope videos! The cabins are not available to rent but there’s a lodge nearby that has great cabins for family’s…check out Finn Bay Lodge. Thanks again!
Lovely Two questions: 1. How long to cook the salmon in that fashion? 2. Does one have to contract wildlife authorities when especially a bear floats in? I would think they would want to know the reason it died.
Hi! Thank you for asking! The salmon took about 2 hours to cook this way. depending on how close you have it to the fire. We crisped up the skin afterwards so that we could eat that too! Second, yes you should contact wildlife authorities when an animal like this washes up. Our manager contacted them and we did a body search and found that its death looked natural. Maybe a bull took a swipe at its face and not swam away and bled to death. Unfortunately nature can be quite cruel. The males will try to kill the cubs so that the female will go into heat again. Hope that clarifies things for you.
I don’t think we had plastic forks… we usually have wooden forks but we might have been out at that time. The plates we use are paper. Thanks for watching!
Another great episode this week, keep up the awesome work.
Thank you Glen! It's the calm before the storm right now. 'Haugust" is fast approaching
Amaizing to choose one of the only 3 days without rain of the year.
I love that the dog brought his/her stuffed bunny. Dogs are the best.
Right?! They are so cute with their little toys
I am going to have to try the open fire way of cooking Salmon. That looks amazing. Sad ending, but nature has its ways.
Awesome Don, I do hope you end up trying this cooking method! Let me know how it turns out.

Shore lunch. Best meal ever.
Right?! It tastes so much better cooked in a fire and eaten outside.

Frozen pizzas are pretty awesome too. But nothing beats a fresh salmon cooked by a fire. Yum! Thanks for all your support, Gary!
Beautiful as always Jenny ❤️ Randy’s banjo makes the perfect background sound track to any beach day.
Thanks Meagan! I thought of you so much while making this one. We are all very grateful for Randys Banjo skills!
