“Never expect someone to change their mind in front of you”
How beautiful! This is something the people in my life who planted seeds in my mind about the truth of Catholicism did. It was 6 years ago that my aunt first shared her testimony of conversion from Protestantism to Catholicism after I shared my urge to walk away from Faith completely. That was the first thing that got me thinking. Now I will be confirmed this Saturday alongside my husband at the Easter Vigil into the Holy Catholic Church ❤

Thank you for having her on! I used to follow all the conservative creators closely but began to notice the anti-Catholic rhetoric as well. I was also frustrated with Isabel on just calling herself a Christian and appearing to go along with Protestant beliefs + inappropriate adoration towards the founding fathers/conservative movement in general.
It is amazing to hear she has gone out on her own, as nudged by the Holy Spirit, in order to speak the full truth in an undimmed light!

You know, I was wondering what was missing in my non-denom church, and yeah, I agree! My church seems better than most non-denoms, but still. It really does seem like they do not go into detail, they seem to not have enough reverence, they focus less on Jesus and more on pop culture a lot of the time, etc. Good Christians, but we protestants really do need to get more conservative.

Orgo is by no means impossible. There is no math involved at all. All you have to do is personify molecules and talk about what elements and molecules "want to do" when they bond. It's literally just memorizing rules and then memorizing exceptions to rules. The only real difficultly is there are lots of rules to memorize. Best advice is to try conceptually understand why things are happening and not just memorize the rules, because all of the rules build off of each other, and if you have good base knowledge it'll make it better for you come the end of the semester.

A protestant here married to a Catholic. The hate goes both ways. We attend both protestant and Catholic Church as a family. And we both roll our eyes when we hear one attacking the other. It’s sad, because compromise happens in lots of churches today regardless of denomination. Recently, we saw a man dressed in full, make up and women’s clothes being allowed to partake in the eucharist. And there was a rainbow flag in the Catholic church as well. My husband and I view all Christians to be our brothers and sisters in Christ. And we definitely try to bridge that gap and show love and understanding. We are each members of the same body just different parts. I think that’s a beautiful thing and that’s how Christ can reach us all. We have both respectfully learned so much from both protestant and Catholic teachings. Great discussion God bless

    • @jimlaz143
      @jimlaz143 10 місяців тому

Truth is never hate. That is shameful that the Catholic Church you were at had a pride flag in the church. It’ just bringing politics into the mass. The problem with the flag in the church and a dude in drag receiving Jesus Christ is that it gives the perception that the Catholic Church endorses sexual perversion and the denial of the gift of life given as a male or female. The mission of the one true Church of Jesus Christ, through our priests, is to lead people to salvation, not lead them further into sin by showing them misplaced compassion. That man you saw is sick and he needs spiritual and psychological help. The truth is what will help his soul not people's appreciation of him receiving Christ in the Eucharist while mocking His creation.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

1:37:24 crazy how she went to one “bad” church and automatically believes that every single Protestant church is like that. Matt did a great job handling that statement and correcting her, it’s just kinda weird how she talked so much about objective truth and then made that statement which is inherently subjective based off her one experience at what seemed to have been a mega church based off her description of it being like a rock concert (which mega churches by no means should nor do reflect actual non-denominational churches).
Overall a great interview, just found that statement and the one about Gen Z being “the most conservative generation” extremely odd (to clarify on the gen Z statement, in the 2020 election in all states the majority of gen Z voted democrat, and I believe - although I don’t remember it off the top of my head like I do for the 2020 election- the same thing happened in the 2022 midterm, with gen Z voting once again for the democrats. While I would love it if Gen Z became more conservative, you cant just call them the most conservative generation off of a few polls when the actual evidence/election results point in the opposite direction)

I’ve gone to two progressive universities (Ivy League schools). While so-called conservative viewpoints are certainly not as widely celebrated as so-called liberal ones, the self-imposed victimhood of conservative voices is a bit much. The more intellectual sides of conservative thought (i.e., the Federalist Society) are very well funded and well supported. Isabel seems very bright but a lot of what Turning Point puts out isn’t particularly in line with Catholic thought or traditional conservatism (i.e., truly stupid characterization of basically all government as “socialism,” apparent bigotry toward minority TPUSA staffers internally, at times slavish dedication to Trump’s candidacy over conservative principles). I think most good-faith Catholics, even those that otherwise support TPUSA, acknowledge that there's a lot of toxicity in the movement.
People need to understand that “the right to free speech” isn’t a guarantee that you can say whatever you want and not get roundly criticized or shouted down for it. In most cases I’ve seen, conservatives voices complain when they receive that reaction. (That said, I hope CSU was proactive in addressing the threats against Isabel, because that is disgusting.)
Editing to add: As a former non denom (converted to Catholicism in college), I think Catholicism obviously offers the richest intellectual tradition, but claiming that Christians can't get a super rich and rewarding intellectual life through nondenom churches is just plain ignorance and frankly isn't helping anyone. Søren Kierkegaard and Dietrich Bonhoeffer weren't Catholics, C.S. Lewis wasn't a Catholic, Tim Keller wasn't a Catholic, and their intellectual influence has brought tons upon tons of people to faith...

    • @crusaderACR
      @crusaderACR 10 місяців тому +2

@@trad-lite Lutherans are actually validly baptized Christians. Mistaken in many things, but still Christian and definitely a religion. More of a religion than Buddhism or, frankly, anything Asia puts out, that's for sure.
This is the truly ancient and orthodox Christian Catholic perspective. Arians got the Trinity very messed up, yet their baptisms were all considered valid. That's 4th century.
It would be VERY different if you were talking to a Gnostic or a Muslim. Some who claim faith to Christ don't qualify as Christians (Muslims, Mormons, JWs, Unitarians) and others aren't a religion (some Universalist sects, some secularized non-denoms). None of that applies to Lutherans.
Regarding the Holy Spirit in conversion, that's absolutely true, but there's also a thing about you being the instrument that will lead a seeking heart. God rarely does any miracles without instruments. Like Christ using mud or water to heal blindness, completely unnecessary, but that's how God works. He works through His Creation.
So, don't fall into the temptation of doing nothing just because the Spirit will find a way. Maybe you are the way.

There is a strong movement with mothers my age who are doing what gen z is doing/saying too. For example, I am meeting so many millennial families who are converting to Catholicism and getting into homesteading and such. Anyway, I keep being told my generation is the WORST and gen z is doing/saying all the things that a lot of my friends (millennials) are doing/saying too. I think a lot of milennials, especially on the younger end with young kids, are in the same boat as older generation z. My rant is now ended :) Loved this interview! Just felt I needed to stand up for my generation a little :)

I actually think it is much harder to accept your sin live in it, and spew the lies about abortion and all these other issues. Why because you’re always depressed, you’re always missing something whether that’s God your child or that conversation with your parents. that says I’m sorry that I made you cry. I’m sorry you lost your grandchild. I’m sorry I didn’t honor you even when you gave me bad advice I didn’t think logically about how decisions can hurt us later then you have to live with all that but when you go for healing. you can talk about it and love look at a baby without sadness. Ask God for forgiveness put your child in gods hands and pray that God has mercy and you will see your child one day that is so much more lifting then living in darkness. That doesn’t mean you don’t have hard days that doesn’t mean that you don’t look at what’s going on today and realize that you must do something because maybe you helped to create this climate that we are in that must change to love babies so that you can truly love your neighbor

If conservatives aren't conserving a natural law ethic with the true transcendent God as its foundation and source, they will never be able to conserve anything.
We see the result of this conservatism built on quicksand playing out right in front of us today, with the meltdown at the supposedly conservative Daily Wire over the treating of Palestinians as animals instead of treating them as created in the image of God.

"There is no intellect when you walk into a non-denominational church service."
I'm sorry to hear that was her experience, but I find it funny that Catholics make these sweeping derogatory statements and wonder why they are perceived as arrogant snooty.
Matt is always irenic and charitable, but unfortunately it seems to be rare among Catholics. We are brothers and sisters in Christ (even according to the Catholic faith in Vatican 2) but it's disheartening how rarely we act like it. Where is the love of Christ?

@@danielwallace1968 If it's based on experience, you mean subjectively. Which is valid, I know there are a number of bad ones out there.
But objectively means beyond personal experience and into the definitive provable realm of truth. Just be wise and accurate which words you use if you best want to keep peace between brothers in Christ rather than disunity.

41:49 In the context our consumer-driven, perfectionist society we treat people as if they are disposable just as clothes can be. When they no longer fit, have a stain, a hole, a rip, a broken zipper or simply don’t fit a new trend, we throw them away, sell them or donate them. The cost of fixing/adjusting the piece of clothing, is much more effort and money than buying a new piece at the store. Similarly in relationships, the cost of forgiving and growing better is far more than starting a new friendship/relationship (or at least that’s our perception).
When there arises a snag in a relationship, a disagreement, a turn-off, a flaw or imperfection, we decide with our “all-or-nothing” consumer mindset that there has to be a better sweater out there and leave broken people behind us.

Is there something about cultivating in our children a point of rebelling and then parents backing off while displaying an example of appropriate rebellion? I’m thinking specifically rebelling against the world.
Is it truly a necessity of children breaking off of parents for them to rebel? Or can growth and independence of identity occur without it? And how can we as parents cultivate that early on?

Thank you, Isabel, for noting what I saw in Israel, too: Catholic churches everywhere, which were how all of the important Christian sites were saved. My baptist sister's best friend, a non-denom preacher- even said going with a Catholic group was the best way to go because "the Catholics saved Christianity and our history!" BTW, neither my sister or her friend heard the irony of that statement as they are still away from the Church. Anyway, there is nothing like being in a church that is centuries old where we know Jesus walked. Makes me emotional even now, a year later! The most impactful for me moment was seeing the Anointing stone where His body was prepared for the tomb. A trip every Christian should take.

    *INCOMING LONG COMMENT*
The part of 'Coming out Catholic' in this episode, I can relate to a lot of what Isabel Brown is saying about her friends asking her a bunch of questions about the Catholic church and the origins of it, I was born and raised in a catholic family, I go to church every Saturday evening mass with my family for my entire life but I never dive deep into faith, as my dad would put it I was merely knowing and hearing about Jesus all in my head, I did the practices by attending mass, but I never experienced Him or wanted to have a relationship with Him when I was young, it all felt to me like a duty back then. It was when I went into college in 2019 or when I meet non-Catholics and atheists' friends in an online game once, one of them was particularly curious about Christianity, Jesus and Catholicism, at first, I didn't mind answering some questions of his, so I told him if he's curious about the church I can answer what I knows best, but it got to a point where he started to ask more and more seemingly rude and mean questions (kind of ironic for someone who claims to only believe in logic and science), sort of challenging my faith in God and it becomes outwardly rude. He would share these random TikToks or YT shorts of people who misinterpret the Bible's word or Trump's prayer assistant claiming to pray in tongues, I experienced the prayer of tongues before, it was not shouting and yelling.
Anyways, one of the questions I remember him asking me is if we are allowed to eat pork or not, because in the Old Testaments Exodus, it was recorded certain animals are not to be eaten, which was pointed out in the TikTok he shared to me, even though before the sharing of this video I already answered his question that we are not restricted to any food in the Bible and my family does weekly fasting on Friday to abstain meat in our diet. He then shared that particular video to mock my answer and made it clear he didn't believe in my answer and that I didn't know better in my faith because apparently to him my points were not convincing enough, he even laughed at me for not knowing this in the Bible and that I'm 'sinning' to God. Although what he did was really mean and disrespectful, I felt challenged and wanted to prove him wrong, it then fired me up to study the Bible more intensely, asking prayer warriors or leaders about the Bible and Jesus, this was when I started to deepen my faith in the Lord. After studying more about the Bible, I told him the video he shared cannot be trusted fully for the creator was obviously not a follower of Christ, her video was created to mock Christians for eating meat and misinterpreting the message of God. I showed him the New Testament, Acts 10 where Peter was approached by God with all types of animals on a white cloth and asked Peter to eat it. After all that, he didn't care, he continued to mock my answer and just kept rebutting. We aren't friends anymore, but after so many years if I ever see him again I would like to thank him for deepening my faith in God, without his curiosity I don't think I would learn more, although it started out as a 'I want to prove you wrong' mindset, it shifted from that, I started to find God for meaning and purpose in my life, it made me ask myself the hard questions like what is my relationship with God if I don't know the answer to these questions too. Now I am still on that journey, I just finished my confirmation on Easter Vigil, and I just want to deepen my faith and relationship with God and hopefully spread His goodness around this world. I started praying the rosary more than I did years ago, although it's a struggle because there are days, I just want to be lazy, but hearing about the wonders of God's power working through prayer motivates me to pray more, because so many people out there need to experience that power of His and if prayer helps these people that's enough to keep me going. Thank you so much for this episode! As a fellow Gen Z, it feels good to know there are fellow people in my generation that shared the same values and mindset in life.
