FLOAT TUBE BAT RAY FISHING | Newport Harbor

- Today we decided to try something new in our float tubes. We launched in Newport Harbor and brought the heavy rods, and the bat rays didn't disappoint. Stay tuned for more content this summer!
We picked up some whole squid at an Asian market and headed down to the harbor at around 9am. We launched a little after low tide with a good incoming swing coming up. We got 3 bites on the day for bat rays in a period of about 2.5 hours, and managed to hook and land 2, including a solid bat ray around 30 lbs or so. Sebastian was also able to put a bend in his new jigstick, and it worked out nice. After bat rays, we had about 2 hours left to fish and whacked some bass, coming in with a little under 20 fish.

Awesome! You guys had fun and it showed. Nice catch and release! 👍
Awesome i was just down there this past weekend I'll try fishing there next time I'm down there 😀🎣🤙
that was sick dude, just landed my first butterfly ray a couple days ago, then went back and landed my first bat ray. Fun as hell right?!?
oh yeah, they can pull
Dope ass video bro, i love it
Are thos docks illegal to fish off of if you don't own the house
yeah they're all private except the ones marked public
Fuckin ah! Good times you guys
Goddamn that looks so fun in the float tube hahaha
its insane hahahha
@TB 123 lol no i wish
i remember beaching my friends 50 + pounder by that exact doc
Fisherman Congratulations Beautiful *Fish,* success in *Fishing!* 😊👍🎣🐠
This is freaking awesome
I plan on going to newport harbor to fish but what part of the harbor would I be able to fish off docks if you could help, don't have tube or kayak to be out in the water right now thanks
If u haven’t gone yet try fun zone it’s a very good start
Lil Squirt where's fun zone at , nd hows the jetty in newport
Run4rest Run fun zone is right next to davey’s locker in newport there’s a lot of nice little spots to fish with a swim bait and there’s public docks all over Newport but the jetty is right next to the wedge witch has a good amount of different fish like Bonita, calico, spotted bay bass, sand bass, etc. but I hope this helped you good luck
Lil Squirt thanks a lot man really appreciate it. Maybe might run into you one day out there
I had a question have you ever gone fishing at Channel Islands Harbor and fished from the harbor not a boat and if you have what do you usually catch
i haven't, but i've heard of some decent sand bass/calicos, and probably halibut croaker etc
I would probably say it was about 15 pounds. I caught a 70 pound bat ray in San Diego bay and it took me 40 min to bring in on 80 pound braid. There fun to catch. You should come down to San Diego and we can bat ray fish in a good spot.
yea it looked kinda small, but it felt around 30 or so when we lifted it. fun fight either way. we're pretty far from sd and usually when i'm down there it's for an offshore/islands trip
Its just a mud marlin anyway, no reason to get a big ego over it.
I just got a 74lber took me 7 minutes on 50lb braid you gotta tighten that drag down 🤣
Chase Lopez I don’t believe that one hit buddy
@@coopermaio2021 buddy if you cant even properly fight a fish I wouldn't be talking
Bad ass....looks like a blast. Great idea 💡
What type of hooks are you guys using?
owner 4/0 flyline
That looked fun. Like catching them on the kayak ,get to go on a free ride. That "crap" Shimano saguaro rod works well . I've had one for years and it pulls triple duty on charter boats, pier ,and kayak...better than the big 5 budget rods. I personally don't like taking higher end gear on my kayak for the day I flip and lose something but to each his own. Plus the environment is hell on your gear. You guys ever fish from a stand up paddle board?
Anotherflores91 don’t have a paddle board, but that would be fun.
When you go for the rays do you go when thiers good tidal current, or do they not feed with the tidal swing.
it might help move food around a little and this was on an incoming tide, but it probably doesn't matter much, i've caught them at every kind of tide
when you guys gonna go on a boat again? I wanna see some boat action
we're trying to soon, we'll put out a vid when we do
You guys deserve a lot more viewers and subs!! Lets link up and catch some monsters some time at the jetty view!!
Wtf was that shreek
ReeeEeeeeEee
thats hilarious nice idea
I knew it was you bro where you out there last weekend by the bait barage
blake lira nope
How expensive is the tub and do you like it
these tubes are around $90, it's worth the investment for us
When you fish for rays does the tide seem to matter
not really
GetBent Sportfishing ok thx
How much was the super seeker. I'm looking into getting an ulua.
i got mine for about 220 off a friend, but it's not an ulua. uluas are probably one of the more expensive jigsticks, like 400-500 usually
calstar also makes nice ones
When you guys dock fish where do you go
Looks pretty fun , u should go in the ocean with the tubes , adventure out of the bay
lol we attempted once but it was tough in 4 ft swell
U guys always catch small bat rays
Lol anything much bigger probably would’ve capsized justin
It may be a big fish but it's not a big batray
