For 90s kids and earlier this was the best representation of pod racing still like this over the lego version I'd wear my anakin pod racing helmet and play
This was my all time favorite N64 game as a kid, along with Shadows of the Empire! They used to have the machines for this set up in arcades everywhere too and it was all decked out to look like a pod racer cockpit those were awesome. Never did make it past ord ibanna in the invitational either, and my game remains unfinished to this day because of that.
I remember when my mother installed it for me and my brother for the first time. cool thing was, she wanted to be the first to play it. My mother is not huge in video games. (Still isn't) So I was kinda wondering why she wanted to take a crack at it. She won in first place. I thought she did a great job.
2 great memories from when I played it as a child : the map where you can kind of "fly" because there is a tunnel without gravity was so exciting ! But I remember another map where you must use the nitro boost to get over a bridge and I failed everytime because I didn't even know you could do that 😅
I remember when I was a kid, at Pojo's they had this big arcade machine with the actual side controls you gripped like Anakin's podracer and then you raced. And that's why I was so happy when they released this for the Nintendo Switch, because the nostalgia of that podracing arcade from my childhood is real.
Favorite memory? My dad and I used to play this, and I could never beat him. I even bought a new copy to try, never got to play it with him on the dreamcast, but maybe I can do this.
I’ve had this game on my N64 since I was little, I never really picked it up, but having done so recently I can see why it’s regarded as one of the best Star Wars games ever made. The audio and visual quality from the N64 gives it a certain charm that I love. The tracks on Baroonda and Ando Prime suck, change my mind. Dud Bolt FTW.
also swoop bikes are, well swoop bikes. playing a podracer game is magnitudes closer to podracing that swoop bikes. like saying riding a push bike is the closest youll get to being a f1 driver
This was my first game on the N64, it came as a bundle with a yellow controller. I couldn't beat the last circuits so 13yr old me thought I was so smart when I found the hidden menu and set all the other racer pods at slow speed and me hella fast. Ahhhhhh, what a childhood memory.
One thing I really loved on this game were the many different planets which expanded the Star Wars Galaxy much more for me as a child. I think my favourite maps were these prison and water planets.
ive waited 21 years for them to remake this game. but this is still by far one of my all time greatest games. played it on n64 when i was a kid, then recently got from steam 2 weeks ago and its like i never put the control down. still know the tracks like the back of my hand. took me over 2 years to finish the game then. took me 4-5 hours this time round.
EA watching this video: CEO: We need a pod racing game Assistant: But sir we already have squadrons in the making CEO: Well then make it a DLC Assistant: Uhh Yes sir we’ll work on it And that’s my prediction
Oh man, you gotta love this game, it's so good for its time. I owned this game on the n64 back in the day but now I have it once again on switch and its just as good as I remember
on the ord ibanna level, that first bit where you fly through the tunnel, you need to stay on the upper track, even if you have to really slow down to do it it's worth it, the lower track takes you a much longer route
Well before anything else I want to say thank you to you Bombastic after watching this I’ve been playing for about 6 hours now I’m absolutely and indefinitely hooked. I wasn’t even born when this game came out but yet I really love it. THANK YOU for making this video man I just hope one day there will be a second game or a remake.
Guess what, when the PS5 comes out, if you have this on disk from a previous ps console, the PS5 will make it so you can play it and it remasters it automatically
The second race on the invitational tournament is actually impossible if you mess up once. On the first mesh tunnel you have to stay on the top level at all times, otherwise you'll add almost a minute to your time. The second mesh tunnel is the same thing but only about 20 seconds, also, after you exit the second mesh tunnel (from the top) you are supposed to jump through the flags you see on the left as you'll land on some floating platforms that are a straight shot to the next section. Also, another shortcut is found on the building section of the track (6:05), instead of following the pipes on top of you turn left, there is a wall with an opening there
Sebulba wasn't my favorite racer but I loved that he was the only one that could cheat. His pod has a special ability that allows him to vent fire out either side at his opponents. I can't remember if that was AI only or if you could use that ability once you unlocked him. Either way it was neat that they incorporated Anakin's line about Sebulba flashing him with his vents into the game.
my favorite racer in this game is Mars Guo. He crafts one of the fastest and largest pods in the game so hes a tough one to master. but I love going full throttle with that guy. Sometimes I idle at the starting line and give the other racers a solid minute head start and then just try to catch up with them at full throttle, gunning the accelerator, using shortcuts, drifting around corners. Its just super fun. An absolute thrill each and every time.
I was 12 in 1999 and I'd been geeking out about star wars since the Special Editions came out at the perfect age for me at 10. I had a subscription to Star Wars Kids AND Star Wars Insider magazines, and was an avid player of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron on the N64 so when RACER came out it was a Day 1 purchase, mom took me to Walmart to pick it up, I remember coming home and jumping right in. I spent the better part of the next year mastering every level with every character. I even had a Podracing poster on my wall next to my tv.
The new lap record guy actually IS in the game. I didn't realize this until I got the switch re-release, but that's actually the other announcer head saying that. The planet cutscenes were removed on the N64 version, and THAT'S where you hear him most.
This looks like it’s plays better than I thought it would. It’s only $14.99 on the PlayStation store, I’ll definitely be picking this game up now. Thanks Bombastic!
I would love to see this game get a remake, new graphics and textures as good as battlefront 2. Movie accurate sound effects and more voice lines. New locations based off canon material. Could be great
For the hardest track you MUST stay on the top track, take your time, basically just tap the accelerator button through the parts where the track has an upper/lower level. Mars Guo is my go to but for this track I use Bullseye Novour (or whatever his name is, it’s been a few years since I played this) as he’s probably the smallest and most nibble without making any upgrades.
3:00 The solution to Abyss is to slow down a bit and stay on the top level, else if you fall down you need to take the loop which adds considerable time.
Congratulations! On ps1, I spent days in Jet Moto 3, mostly at Khumbu Falls, where I had a tendency to crash into a bridge abutment near the finish line.😥
Late to the party, but Mars Guo/Jinn Reeso was my favorite racer, despite being a bit too big for some of the maps. I felt that exact same way when I beat both Boonta Eve and Abyss (the Ord Ibanna invitational map) for the first time. I learned after about 10 years of struggling that the only way to reliably remain in the front of the pack was to let other racers through the entrance of the first set of stacked lanes and then drive on the top lane because that's where you can skip the entire loop around the superstructure by simply making the jump onto that fork where the tracks reunite.
The trick to win the Ord Ibanna map is not to fall down to the lower road EVER. If you stay on the top one you can win but if you fall the opponents will rubberband like hell on purpose. So slow down as much you need to keep your pod on the top floor. Also for PC the GOG version is the most stable version of the game.
My brothers and I always played this game on the N64. We loved to go neck-to-neck on these tracks. Unfortunately our 64 broke, maybe I'll get it on the Nintendo Switch or on the PS4 just so we can play this again.
Didn’t have the N64 version growing up, but I did have the GBC...”port” would be putting it generously (I didn’t get a console at all till around 2005 - I was a PC and portable system gamer for most of my childhood). It was memorable for a couple of reasons, the first being that you could unlock Sebulba just by beating all the races on a given planet then beating him on any of the tracks...but you also lost him again if you ever lost while playing as him. Anakin’s pod was the only one you could improve, specifically increasing its top speed with each planet you cleared. It was also the game thar taught me about battery backup saves because I turned it on one day to find all my progress had reset, and it didn’t save again after beating a couple of tracks, so the game was effectively broken.
i still brag about 100% completing this game when i was 10 or 11. it feels as good today, as it did 20 years ago. the sequel was pretty good too though, you only had one life, and earned bounties for wrecking other racers.
Well The was actually broken for me too, but in a different way. If I would restart certain races too many times I would get this glitch where one of my pods will just spontaneously combust every time I have to fly off a ramp or a jump. The only way around this was to change the podracer everytime this started to happen. I specifically remember this happening on the tracks set on Ord Ibanna.
Favorite pod racer is definitely neva kee, the pod isn’t natural like the others. Only real memory I have of this game was first played it at a haircut store while waiting on my parents. The second being me playing it on emulation and using the cheat menu to go stupid levels of fast
i remember playing this as a wee fella! i always remembered the ice texture from the ice level. when i used to play it it seemed to be bugged out so on the character select screen it kept scrolling through very fast, so i'd sit and try and press select at the right time to get anakin
@Bombastic have you ever played the arcade version of this game? Its great but so hard. You sit in Annie's cockpit and use the 2 handles to accelerate and turn corners (to go left you pull back on the left handle and push forward on the right etc). Now THAT is a podracer experience
I am only 19, but even I played this game, I loved star wars and I would play any game I could find, I remember buying this game for the old Nintendo 64, I grew up playing them old games, And I had a blast, but I was like 6 when I played it and as you know I was not good at it. I grew up playing these games in the Mid 2000's. (The Warriors, Scarface the world is yours, KOTOR, Final Fantasy XII and Halo)
lol I just beat this game for the first time a few days ago on PC. First played on N64. Best pod is Aldar Beedo's... ...and this video is how I found out about the repair mechanic...
So I used to play this game at a gameworks when I was a kid. It was always my favorite game there even though I was terrible lol. But now that i know it’s on ps4 I am definitely getting it thanks for reminding me of this game bombastic 👍
The racers in the Boonta Eve Classic were: Anakin Skywalker Aldar Beedo Ratts Tyerell Sebulba Mawhonic Dud Bolt Clegg Holdfast Ebe E. Endocott Gasgano Boles Roor Teemto Pagalies Elan Mak Mars Guo Ark "Bumpy" Roose Neva Kee Wan Sandage Ody Mandrell Ben Quadinaros
This wast the game i wanted an N64 for when i was a kid. When i got my Jungle Green Donkey Kong N64 it was sold out, but i got it shortly after and its one of my favorite Star Wars games ever. One thing I remember to this day is something I could never recreate. Sebulba having a flamethrower that set another NPC Racer's pod on fire. I think it's a rare chance occurrence. Edit: Also word of warning to people wanting to play this, the game is a coin toss whether it wants to work or not on PC, even using third party fixes.

I didn't know that game because I am younger than the time it was created but man now I am hungry for some pod racing
How palpatine felt when anakin burned on mustafar: I waited 13 years, for *this.*
Why is no one talking about star wars racer revenge? That’s nostalgia for me!!
(There’s even a remaster that I bought on PS4 last year)
You should bring back the bombastic crew and have everyone play
One thing I remember to this day is something I could never recreate.
Sebulba having a flamethrower that set another NPC Racer's pod on fire. I think it's a rare chance occurrence.
Edit: Also word of warning to people wanting to play this, the game is a coin toss whether it wants to work or not on PC, even using third party fixes.
You need to press the taunt button to do so.
@@GoldenSunAlex The what.
@@DarthSears Taunt button? There will be one that makes the racer taunt. Sebulbas does his flamethrower.
You don't need to have post-human reflexes. You just need infinite respawns.
