Actually: there's a method in 1.16 (I do not know if it works in lower versions) with an elytra, trident and rain. You start flying with the elytra, and keep spam-using the trident, untill eventually you go so fast that the games momentum breaks and suddenly just leaves you with 0 speed again

I feel like Ender Pearl Stasis Chambers deserved at least a mention. They aren't a true travel method, because they only work in places you've set them up and most require another player's aid or a lot of redstone, but done right you can teleport across the entire map in a second.

If you use Depth Strider 3 and have a dolphin on a lead, it will continuously give you the buff, leading to insanely fast travel speed without having to rid the Nether of its soul soil.

I actually wanted to mention something. When using a Riptide enchanted trident while in the rain and flying with an elytra, you can get up to some insanely fast speeds. Much much faster than using a firework.

Fun fact: This method of "entity knockback booster" was later supercharged when someone invented a horizontal player launcher that involved an ice highway and *thousands of villagers* in one spot to launch player in riduculous speed. (iirc it was hundreds of blocks per second)
