I used to be left handed; then unfortunately I had a stroke and became paralyzed on my left side.Seeing you do this process really helps me; because my right hand is still working; it’s currently my only option to continue with painting. This is awesome and very much appreciated! Excellent work by the way!

... I also had a serious accident , 25 years ago , was comatose for 3 weeks , during which , I also suffered a stroke , this left me paralysed on my right hand side , with a degree of impairment to my vision.
In the early 90's , I trekked through the Himalayas , I was always interested in drawing and painting , but , I was more interested in detail , so , I always thought that I would make some art , at a later date.
Michael James Smith work has inspired me to pick up the brushes and try again , thank you.

dread, I am thoroughly impressed that you went to the Himalayas! Wow! You must have a very strong spirit! Not sure what you might believe, but God bless you! Just reading your reply gives me hope! My stroke was in March of 2019, so I’m a bit of a noob at it. I was an artist before it happened, so since my left side was paralyzed, I will try my best with my right hand.Most of my work in the past several years has been digital painting; my wife appreciates that in going with digital, the house smells much more pleasant without the paint smell and mess I usually made previously.
You inspire me so much Michael.
When I want to paint , I watch at least one of your videos to give me something to aspire to .
When they say ""there are no words to describe"" Michael's talent drives my creativity to limits I can't describe. It's very influential watching his videos and yet so frustrating because I've never seen better. I dont mean the end product, that speaks for itself! I mean the way he uses the brush, the accuracy of colors and placement, the life he brings to a painting leaves me in awe. I'm looking at something I could do in paint by numbers and with time and patience, Michael brings the level of perfection way up. Life before my eyes, bit by bit, you can see exactly what he sees if you know what to look for. As a junior painter struggling to make the time, you videos are watched repeatedly! Keep up the amazing work Michael, I always look forward to new ones you publish.
The change from 2 dimensions to 3 is magical, almost a trick. Beautiful work, and when you get to 1M subs, it will be well deserved, thank you for sharing your gift in such a short form. Which chemical is my brain producing that makes this kind of viewing so gratifying, and even addictive? dopamine?, serotonin? anyone? its just amazing to watch, so why?

I started with Bob Ross’ technique. Did one painting and switched to your technique. Still have great admiration for Bob Ross because he ignited the spark in me to begin. You have fanned that ember and given me the tools to have even greater joy from painting. I took a 2 year sabbatical to move to a tiny house that I’m finishing myself, raise 2 dogs, chickens, and hopefully soon, some sheep and pigs. I’m in the forest of NW Tennessee and anxious to return to painting again this winter. Thank you for kindling the desire and providing the techniques to improve. I’ll be spending many hours watching your old videos to refresh my memory.

I was going to say the same thing but I saw this comment so I'll just add that if I pause the video I'm stuck with a red line across the bottom of the painting, which rather spoils it. So come on Michael, let us take a good long look at your beautiful work when it's finished.
@@bryanroland9402 Pause it on an iPad, then touch the paused image and the red line goes away.
@@russella7263 geez why do we need to bother to pause the video? Just extend the vid a couple more second and it's good. People already expect the artwork to have a display at the end for atleast a couple second.

Knowing how to build your base is so key. Great work.
It just fascinates me to have that moment of clarity where the vision of the artist--an illusion of artiface--becomes realized in the mind of the receiver. It was at 01:33 for me. After that moment of realizing the concept of the creator, my mind can't un-see the image, even in the pre-sketch phase. You are such a good artist because there is a story behind this environment. I was reminiscing on the late Bob Ross as you were putting in the snow highlights. "Just gonna have a happy little snow drift here, he's telling his friends below 'The view's amazing up here!'" Love it.
