Conversion of a bookshelf into a modern entertainment center

Go through the redesign of as a boring old bookshelf with counter and cabinets and its conversion into a spectacular modern entertainment wall.
The design of this particular circa 2003 custom built wall unit allowed for its transformation. Even though LED lights were not the thing back then, its design helped with hiding the wires to run all of the lighting and electronics.
This was a 6 week effort. It was a relief when it finally moved out of the 90 degree plus garage to the air conditioned house for final assembly.
There was a strong desire to keep the original finish which was clearly sprayed and had some type of top coat. Moving the towers left large scars in the finish and ultimately the counter and top where sanded and re-painted. The shelves were cleaned up and coated with a fresh top coat of Pre-Catalyzed Clear Lacquer.
Video correction: The Harmony Smart Control is said to have RF receivers. The are in fact IR receivers.

Since I was battling extreme heat and humidity, and I was trying to match a current finish I used regular latex. I also used an extender to slow the dry time.
The Pre-Catalyzed Clear Lacquer is insane. This paint left marks with the slightest scrape before adding the Lacquer.

Make sure the laminate you pick will not shatter when using nails on the seam. While the really thin ones were less expensive, you need the nails to bring stability as you apply it to the wall.
