This video tells Bev's story about being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, and how we travel with ms. Bev is a ms success story, and we hope the same for you if you are dealing with it too. We tell how we travel the world with MS and how we live life to the fullest. We hope this video will inspire people and know that there is hope, even with an MS diagnosis.
What is MS?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain and spinal cord. It is a complex condition characterized by a wide range of symptoms and can vary greatly in severity from person to person. Here is an overview of multiple sclerosis:
1. Pathophysiology: The exact cause of MS is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers called myelin. This attack, known as demyelination, disrupts the normal flow of electrical impulses along the nerves, leading to a variety of neurological symptoms.
2. Symptoms: MS symptoms can vary widely and may include:
- Fatigue
- Muscle weakness or spasms
- Balance and coordination problems
- Numbness or tingling in limbs
- Vision problems (blurred vision, double vision, or loss of vision)
- Difficulty with speech or swallowing
- Problems with concentration and memory
3. Types of MS:
- Relapsing-Remitting MS (RRMS): This is the most common form, characterized by periods of symptom exacerbation (relapses) followed by partial or complete recovery (remissions).
- Primary Progressive MS (PPMS): In this form, symptoms gradually worsen over time without distinct relapses or remissions.
- Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS): Many people with RRMS eventually transition into SPMS, where there is a steady worsening of symptoms with or without occasional relapses.
- Progressive-Relapsing MS (PRMS): This is a less common subtype characterized by steady progression of the disease with occasional relapses.
4. Diagnosis: There is no single test for MS, and diagnosis can be challenging. It typically involves a combination of clinical evaluation, medical history, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, lumbar puncture (spinal tap), and blood tests to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms.
5. Treatment: While there is no cure for MS, various treatments are available to manage symptoms, slow disease progression, and improve quality of life. These treatments include:
- Disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses.
- Medications for symptom management, such as muscle relaxants, pain relievers, and immunosuppressants.
- Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to address specific symptoms and improve function.
- Lifestyle modifications, including exercise, a healthy diet, and stress management, to support overall well-being.
6. Prognosis: The course of MS is highly variable. Some individuals may experience mild symptoms and lead relatively normal lives, while others may become severely disabled.
7. Research and Future Outlook: Ongoing research in MS is focused on understanding its underlying causes, developing more effective treatments, and improving the quality of life for individuals with the condition. Promising advances in immunotherapy and neuroprotection offer hope for better management and potentially even a cure in the future.

Jogn and Bev, My wife Cindy has MS. Her diagnosis was in her twenties, disappeared for two decades, then reappeared in her 40s. We are in our mid-60s, and we just traveled to Ukraine to help a school and plan to stay. The cobblestone roads in Lviv are beautiful, but walking on them is treacherous for Cindy. The more calm and quiet, the better. A moderate climate is a must. Emotional trauma and drama are similar to an out-of-control rollercoaster ride. Rest and a positive attitude get us through. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much for sharing your story. My husband and I are also retired and traveling. In addition, I was diagnosed with MS about 27 years ago. Heat is one of the hardest things for me to deal with as well is not sleeping. I would love to know some of your tips for how you cope with heat on your travels. Thanks again, Bev. Cynthia
I've had a brain bleed and can't travel. In fact, I never get out but once a week for 2 hours. I think u have it easy. Be in my shoes!😢
Totally understand your point of view and we encourage you to keep doing what you are doing. We retired early seeing others around us get ill or pass away so young. Time is our currency and our wealth because no amount of money can buy back your health. But having more time to see the world is like being wealthy.
Thanks for the encouragement and wisdom. Safe travels and many blessings to you.
John and Bev
Bev & John, you were already an inspiration with your travel lifestyle but hearing some of the reason behind your travel style is even more inspiring! Praying for decades worth of continued good health & safe travels to you both!! Thank you for your videos & for sharing your story!
Thanks so much for the kind words and following along on our journey.
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing your story! Your very brave and appreciate every episode you put out there. Warm wishes.
Thank you so much for the kind words and following along on our journey.
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing! You are an inspiration!
Thanks so much. Many blessings,
John and Bev
Again, it just boggles my mind how people can be so judgmental?? You all are the most positive and inspirational people “I know”. Keep on trucking!
Thanks for the kind words and the support. Glad you are enjoying our channel.

Judgment usually comes from repressed shame, fear, and lack of understanding.
Knowing this helps to take other's behavior less personally. It's like a festering wound in them, and instead of turning towards their own pain, problems, they project the "stuff" outwards.
When you see that it comes from deep pain, and profound lack of self awareness...it's easier to brush off 😊
Thank you for sharing your inspirational story. As someone who at age 62 was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that has seriously impacted my lungs, I feel the same sense of urgency to travel, see the world, and live life as adventurously as possible while my body will allow me to.
Thank you for also sharing your story. Safe travels and good health for you to see the world,
John and Bev
Hugs to you both. Because of my husbands and my health issues we have started traveling more while we can because we too realize good health isn’t always a given. We are grateful we can travel at this time. In fact we are in Frankfurt now waiting a flight, just spent a week in Split Croatia. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring others. 😌
Thanks so much. So glad that you are able to travel now and safe travels going forward Split, Croatia is amazing.
John and Bev
Wow, Bev, I'm shocked to hear that you were diagnosed 25 years ago! I applaud you for planning and living a full and vibrant life with this unpredictable disease! 👏You are an inspiration! ❤
I can't believe the tremendous amount of walking you do in your trips! 😮 You are doing GREAT!
Wishing you many many years of exciting and rewarding travel! Big hugs 🤗 Dara
Thank you! Your kind words mean so much to me! Big hugs back! ❤️ Bev
I have been watching your videos for awhile now. I have always really enjoyed the detailed information and good pictures you share. Please don't listen to the armchair nuts who want to tell you what to do and how you should travel. I can tell, as a nurse, that you both have done your research and are well informed about your disorder and future. I am so happy you are getting to live your dream. Keep traveling and sharing as it makes a difference for those of us wanting to follow in your footsteps. In the wise words of Rick Steves, "Fear is for those who don't get out much". Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the kind words and following along. We love Rick Steves and thanks for sharing this wonderful quote. Many blessings and safe travels,
John and Bev
Very inspiring video. Thank you so much for sharing with us. It's always important to keep those two lessons in mind...(1) Don't be judgmental of others because you never know what they are going through, and (2) No matter how bad things are for you, there are always others who have things worse. You are setting an inspirational example for others. Don't let anything stop you from living your life to the fullest. I wish the best of health and happiness for you both!
Thanks for the kind words, good reminders and for following along with us.
Safe travels and many blessings,
John and Bev
We should all be living in the moment, supporting and encouraging each other to live our dreams. Cut the negativity and criticism. Such a waste of energy! You guys are an inspiration to so many and are so generous with what you choose to share. 🥰🥰
Thanks and great reminder to us all. Thanks for the kind words.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
John and Bev tears came to my eyes as I Bev was also diagnosed with MS in my 30's in 1996. I also have relapsing/remitting and my first symptom was blurred vision and then got vertigo with unsteady gait. I Bev have travelled the world and still to this day will do as we don't know what's around the corner. I am now 64 and keep fit and healthy and so far so good with only 1 true attack back in 2008 so Bev keep on travelling and I wish you and John the best in your travels.
Thanks for the kind words. Wishing you good health and many blessings,
John and Bev

Thanks for sharing this. My husband and I are hoping to travel full time in a few years. We'll be 60 by then. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis around 36. As you probably know this is a very painful autoimmune condition and I take some very expensive medication to keep myself in a medical remission. Right now, I am doing great. Very little pain and great mobility, but I worry what the future holds and hope that we can get on the road before things take a turn. I hope that you are able to travel for as long as you like with no interference from MS.
Thanks for the kind words and we hope your RA stays in remission. Glad to hear you are doing great.
Safe travels and many blessings,
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing your story. It is a good reminder to everyone to appreciate what you have, while you have it. Tomorrow is never guaranteed! Also, it is mind boggling that people feel the need to critique your travel preferences. Each person must do what is right for them! All the best to you both!!
Thanks for watching and following along. We hope this is a good reminder to people.
John and Bev
Amazing! No reply required. 😊
I’m just amazed you’re both the picture of health.
You never know with life so you might as well go for it no matter what!!
Thanks. 😊
John and Bev
What an inspiration you are to all people and especially to anyone who has MS. I love your videos and enjoy your fast travelling, Im never bored! Follow your own path x
Thanks so much for the kind words.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
I've only recently come across your channel and have been enjoying your travel stories. I love your approach to the places you have visited and the fun memories you have made together. Now I see how really special they must be to you. Hubby and I are in our 70's and are currently in good health despite a couple of "chronic" conditions which are thankfully under control. We do not take our health for granted and have been blessed to take a couple of wonderful trips. One of my favorite sayings is "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Thank you for sharing your story, and may the coming days be a blessing to you. Hugs!
Thanks for the kind words and hugs back! 🤗
Many blessings to you,
John and Bev
Thanks for that "heads up" on your reason for the way you're doing your travel, to be truthful I've often wondered. But I guess none of us know how long we'll be around or healthy enough to continue "life as usual" so the message is, "seize the day", the next one is not assured to any of us.
You are right that we never know how long we can continue "life as usual". We've seen it many times with friends and relatives.
John and Bev
Wishing you many rainbows to come!!
If you’ve not heard of Dr. Swank’s and Dr. McDougall’s diet protocol for the treatment of MS, I’d highly recommend looking into it.
WFPB diet. Chef AJ shares some stories on M.S. and diet. and Dr. Campbell China Study.
Thanks so much for the kind words and sharing the diet protocols.
John and Bev
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your story, Bev ❤ Keep on having and sharing amazing experiences!!
Thank you so much! Hope all is going well in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
Thank you for bravely sharing your story! You are an inspiration to some many, for so many reasons! Happy travels!
Thank you so much for the kind words and following along with us. Safe travels and many blessings,
John and Bev
WOW thanks so much for sharing your MS story, you 2 are inspirational for sure!!
Thank you so much for the kind words.
John and Bev
Both Parkinson, MS and Alzheimers are "connected" to lack of vitamine D. Also certain types of breast cancer, prostate cancer and stomach cancer.
That's very interesting. Bev's doctors have had her on a large dose of Vitamin D since the very beginning. Thanks for sharing.
John and Bev
I have been taking 50,000 units/day of vitamin D with k2 for a long time. My health has consistently gotten better with no side effects, except that I am still good looking and humble!😅
Receive my deepest R-E-S-P-E-C-T to you both, for sharing Bev's MS story.
I used to think the two of you were among the coolest couple I had ever heard about: now I love you ❤
Ahhh. Thank you SO much for the kind words. We love you too ❤️
Many blessings,
John and Bev
Thanks for sharing Bev. I also cope with an autoimmune disease and plan to begin slow travel next year. You’re an inspiration! I have concerns about medication availability but I’ll be figuring things out as I go.
Thanks for sharing and wishing you good health for travels.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
Never mind what people say about how you should travel (how can they even think it’s their business). It’s your life, and your decision on how you will travel the world. You are very brave, and very adventurous to travel like you do. I also am amazed at how active you both are. Loving your videos!
Thanks for the kind words and following along on our journey. Glad you are enjoying our channel.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing you are so positive, you do what you can in the way you can, and no one should tell you how to do it. Keep up the great work, travel and keep well ❤
Thank you so much for the kind words and following along with us.
John and Bev
Such a hopeful video :) I am a breast cancer survivor who at one time was the main caregiver for my Mum who had progressive MS. My husband and I travel full time now and many of our friends comment that we are so young to be retired (we're 57) and we have many earning years left. We've spent the last two years travelling fast, slow, and in between. Sometimes we stay in fancy hotels, sometimes in our camper van! Here in Canada it is Thanksgiving weekend and I'm thankful you are healthy and I get to watch you while I travel the world.
Thanks so much and glad that you are able to travel.
John and Bev
Bev- thank you so much for sharing. I admire your strength and courage to share this with us. You are both so awesome, and your positive spirit will have you traveling for many years to come. I donate to MS and have a close friend who is affected by it. I will now also donate to honor you and pray that a cure is in our future. Be well and keep living your
dreams. ❤❤❤
I love you guys❤ You are such an inspiration.
❤❤❤❤
@@lucymworianetwork Thanks so much.
John and Bev
Bev, thank-u for sharing your personal health journey. Love your attitude and I hope you have many more decades of fun traveling!
Thanks so much for the kind words.
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing your story. I too have RRMS. I was diagnosed in my mid 60's. We have been traveling in the U.S. and abroad for the last 5 years. Cobblestones are rough on the legs. I am part of a support group in the town I live in. This has helped me greatly with the mental aspect of MS.
Thanks for commenting and so sorry to hear about your RRMS. Glad our video was helpful to you.
John and Bev
I pray you get 30 more years travel. Thank you for your transparency and the hope it brings.
We hope so too. Thanks for following along with us.
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing your story. Please keep traveling for more than 30 years. I believe your videos encourage many people.
Thanks for the kind words and hope we can keep going for a long time.

Thanks for sharing. You are both an inspiration! 🩷
Thank you so much for the kind words.

I was diagnosed 14 years ago. I know what you mean about not knowing if you have 3 days or 30 years. I have been doing okay for the last 14 years. My biggest problem is being tired. We decided to start our channel 3 years ago to get out and travel more. I am on Glatiramer acetate. Question: How do you get your medicine while traveling? I have the same feeling we can't go fast enough to see things like the clock is ticking louder and louder. I'm really hoping for another good 20 to 30 years just so I can see everything I want to see. I have a bucket list. Good luck on your MS journey and we can only pray they find a cure soon, so we can beat this horrible disease!
Thank you for sharing, my son lives with a significant disability and we try to live our best day every day. You are very inspiring 😊
Thanks for the kind words and wishing your son good health and relief from his disability.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
That's a rough diagnosis to deal with. You look great considering what you have. We traveled a lot in the USA for years...I wish we had done more international travel after retirement. Now I have a bad back so walking/hiking is difficult. You're doing it right...go now..odds are it's going to stop. We support your channel and all you're doing. Continued best of luck in your travels 👍
Thanks for the kind words and sorry to hear about your back. Thanks for the support and glad you are enjoying our channel.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am 51 and my husband is 59. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in his early 50s and as his symptoms have progressed we have been worried about not being able to travel much in our future. Your story is inspiring!
Thanks for sharing your story as well. Wishing your husband good health and relief from his symptoms.
John and Bev
Do you know of Howard Shifke and fightingparkinsonsdrugfree? (People with medication have also benefited.) There's also John C. Coleman, an ND in Australia, who has books and a website regarding his experience with PD.
@kristifears9184
My brother was diagnosed in his late 40s and is now 58. There is a book...something about Walk Off Parkinson's that my brother has used to feel healthier and much stronger. It's a planned system of walking 3x per week for a certain amount of time, which slowly builds up to an hour each time. My brother is now addicted to walking and feels so much better. Please look for the book. If nothing else, it may help your husband feel more in control.
@@jenniekuepper8157 I wonder if that book is about or by John Pepper? He used fast walking in a certain way to keep his Parkinson's doable.
God Bless you two .
I’m wishing you, two, can travel many- many more years, in good health. Keep up the good traveling videos .
Thanks so much for the kind words and following along with us.

Love you guys! It makes sense that you want to see and do it all…right now. Thank you for sharing your journey and wisdom.
Thanks for the kind words and following along with us.

Thank you so, so much for this video. It answers and explains so much, because we did have some questions as to why you travelled so quickly, as we plan and head towards our early retirement chapter. MS is in my husbands family (his mum and brother both had this), and our son's 24yr old girl friend also has this condition. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are both as such a fab inspiration - we wish you a very long, healthy and happy retirement.
Thanks for the kind words and good luck with your early retirement plans.

I just recently found your channel and was intrigued by your energetic approach to travel and moving fast around the world. This video sheds more light on your decision. Wow! Thank you so much for being vulnerable and for sharing. I will pray for you -- for the Lord to bless you with exactly what you need each day -- day by day. You are an inspiration to me. I want to integrate travel into my watercolor painting practice and see where that leads. THANK YOU and God bless you! ~Kris

Wow, sharing your poignant story gives us even further inspiration (plus understanding, and hopefully empathy, for those who needed it) through your journeys...VERY well done & thank you. Seems to me a week per destination would be plenty time to see SO much, including a recharge to carry on to the next stop...doubtful I could keep up with your pace with global ambition, and I'm a few years younger than y'all! Your story & journey(s) is incredible...looking very forward to continuing to ride along here!! 🙌
Thanks for the kind words and following along on our journey.
Safe travels and many blessings,
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing this important message
Thanks for listening.

John and Bev
Thanks for sharing. I’m curious about how you handle medication administration while traveling, if that isn’t too personal. As I understand, most MS drugs are administered intravenously. How is this done overseas?
Thanks for asking. We specifically didn’t mention which drugs because we aren’t doctors and we didn’t want to influence someone and the treatment they take. Traveling with MS drugs is difficult for travelers. John & Bev
such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. Sorry you are dealing with this but big kudos for living your lives the way you want.
Thanks for the kind words. We hope to keep this us for a long time.
Many blessings,

Have you looked up Dr Swank? He used diet to put MS into remission. It doesn't reverse damage but helps prevent it from progressing. The key is limiting saturated fat. I hope you are well and give this a chance. I know someone who found it beneficial
Yes we have and thanks so much for sharing.

I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying our channel.

Thank you so much for sharing this. At times, I've felt some frustration because my iliotibial band (IT band) syndrome and related trochanteric bursitis cause hip pain when I walk too much. The years of physical therapy have resulted in very limited improvement, and the condition may worsen as I age. This has given me more of a sense of urgency about traveling the world as soon as my younger kid finishes high school in two years. Your travels and sense of adventure are truly inspiring.
Thanks so much for the kindness. Wishing you good help and relief from pain so that you can travel.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
Thank you for sharing this insight into your lives and motivation for your style of travel - very inspirational!
You are so welcome and thanks for watching.

Thanks so much for the kind words.
Many blessings,

Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you many, many more years of travel, and I wish Bev all the best (and a cure for MS!). Despite being as healthy as 66 & 71 year olds can be, my husband and I still travel quickly, for the most part. We started traveling later in life (he had never been out of the country until he was over 60!) and as anyone who is older knows, we simply never know how much longer we'll have to travel this beautiful world!
Bravo to you both ❤ I would have never guessed you have MS! Your positive & friendly attitudes have taken you far, both geographically and relationally. May you continue to have good health and great travel experiences around the world!
As a mother of 8, grandmother of 6 so far and a three time cancer survivor, I too cherish each day I have to enjoy this season of life with my husband, to explore nature and travel to beautiful places. All glory to God for His goodness to us each day!
Thanks so much for the kind words. Safe travels and many blessings to you,
John and Bev
You two are awesome. Wishing you the best and many, many happy years of travel!

My 48 year old niece had a stroke 2 years ago related to Covid. The diagnosis was a blood clot in the brain related to Covid. She has recovered to a large extent but will have weakness on her left side forever. You never know what life is going to throw you so your message to make the best of life while you can is one taken to heart. Thanks for sharing your story and stay strong as you always are.
Thanks for sharing the story. Life can come at you so fast.
Many blessings and good health,
John and Bev
Thank you for yet another inspirational video, and sharing the bravery of you and your family. As for Travel, do what you want, whenever you want, and ignore people who have nothing to do, but be judgemental about others.
Thanks for the kind words and wisdom.

John and Bev

Hello there! I'm back at #94, still watching your shows one by one from the very beginning. For the first time I jumped ahead when I saw the notice of this episode. Good grief. It never ever even crossed my mind that you are travelling too fast. Your reasons are yours. And we benefit from all the variety!😁 You go girl!! Not to detract from your support of the MS Society, but do you know of Dr. Terry Wahls? If not, she did an amazing TedX talk of her amazing rebound with MS. It can be found via google. Many MS people are finding relief with what she described in her book and verified with clinical studies. Frankly Bev, you don't seem to be needing any relief--you're doing so very well!!
Thanks for the kind words and following along with us on our journey. Also, thanks for the suggestion. We will do some more research.
Many blessings,
John and Bev
