Agreed! I'm so glad they're making these incandescent-like LED bulbs. I'm pretty sure Tru-Tone is still adding scent to their boxes? Perhaps they stopped doing that this year.
I gotta say, even though the LED chips look a lot fatter than incandescent light filaments, especially in the tinted clear bulbs, they look really amazing. I first heard about the brand from a guy in UA-cam experimenting with his own lights, but I never expected you to review them haha. Man you did a fantastic job with the whole video
That’s a good point. I haven’t been able to comment on the coating’s long term durability yet, but so far it’s been problem-free. I’m thinking the coating on these bulbs will last much longer than the coating on incandescent bulbs due to lower heat stress.
Currently they don’t make miniature lights, but it’s possible that those might come in the future as they seem to be highly requested by many people. It sure would be nice to have LED miniature lights with Tru-Tone’s technology and design.
I just got a few of these myself to try out, both frosted and transparent. The colors do indeed look great but unfortunately like many cheap LED filament bulbs they flicker which gives me a splitting headache so I can’t use them. Maybe I can salvage them by powering from filtered DC. Apparently some people can’t see 60Hz flicker and I am envious of them, it’s very visible to me, especially in my peripheral vision or when I move my eyes. Disappointed, TruTone got so much nearly perfect but the flicker spoils it.
I definitely understand your situation. Most LEDs running on AC flicker to some extent, some more than others. I saw that Tru Tone also acknowledged this in their FAQs section of the website, mentioning that it would be too costly to produce fully-rectified bulbs as of now. Running them on pure DC would certainly eliminate the flickering. Hopefully we’ll see more quality, fully-rectified LEDs at lower costs in the future; I’m sure Tru Tone will adopt the circuitry when the cost becomes justifiable.
About 2.5” between sockets. But this is just a custom, short wire that was used for this sample pack. The wires that Tru Tone actually sell are much nicer and have wider spacings between the sockets.
I imagine, with popular UA-cam channels like Technology Connections shining a spotlight on Tru-Tone, that these will wind up being permanently sold out. If possible, I will try to buy some bulbs with each paycheck I get over the next year.
I can certainly see that happening for a while. Last year they sold out their inventory pretty early due to skyrocketing demand. It seems like they were better prepared for this year and are keeping up with the orders well. I think it’s a good indicator that Tru Tone is only getting more popular and they’re growing as a company. People’s love for their lights seems to be growing every year which I’m happy to see!

The Jewel-tone ones are my favorite. They are absolutely remarkable. I absolutely loathe and can’t stand LED Christmas lights but these are spot-on!

Do they make smaller lightbults like the mini kind? I would love that in LED but with out the purple LED aura.

All Tru Tone bulbs have glass globes, just like incandescent bulbs.
