Hey, FYI. The 940 Volvo's fuel sender unit is plastic, and fits perfectly in the volvo 740's fuel tank. You need (or actually you don't) to change the sensor from a 740's fuel sender unit. If you don't change the sensor from a volvo 740, your fuel amount indicator works inversely, but still works haha.
Man! I remember when I was fixing my fuel sending unit, everything went smoothly and I found out the problem which was an rather odd one I guess.. the little plastic thingy that holds all the cables through and into the tank was the issue, one cable had snapped inside of the plastic so I just made a new hole and fed a new cable through. The real trouble was getting the pump positioned the right way, the first time I put it in the car wouldn't start because I appearently put the pump in the wrong way? That's not something I want to ever do again haha!
am a fan from Canada and enjoying your rebuild on the 760 DT 24 DIESEL your discussions are AWESOME I have happen to have a 81 D24 and want to add a turbo, nothing huge just a bit more omff, have found a DT 24 turbo manifold and would like to ask please and thank you what turbo would you recommend ? a reply would be immensely appreciated thanks
Honestly, for an NA engine, I'd go with a stock d24t turbo. The NA heads use a slightly different material and cannot take as much heat. You also won't have a boost enrichment valve on your injection pump, so you'll be limited as to how much boost you could push anyways.
@@bakedbeansgarage116 hi and thanks for your prompt reply, where does one get a stock turbo for a DT24? my understanding the are none in North America thanks once again
Great video as always. Next week i start my own 740 Turbo Diesel Restauration. But i have one problem. I did not find a single repair manual for the diesel engines. Did u have any recommendation? I find absolutely nothing in Europe..
Your best bet is to look for the "green books" which are the original factory manuals. You also might find a VW LT manual that covers this engine, but we didn't get those in the states so I'm not certain.
You don't have to bleed it. The fuel system bleeds itself automatically. You just gotta crank it for a long time. loosening a nut on a injector gets out the air efficiently, just remember to tighten it after you get fuel, or the engine starts on 5 cylinders haha.
The classical music makes me feel like I'm back at Grandma's house. Keep up the good work!
My grandma always plays 80s radio rock.

Beans VS the enlarged soldering gun is going to be the next marvel movie

Matze are you on any forums or facebook? I'm also starting a 760 Diesel and would like to connect with other folks starting out.
What do i do when i run out of fuel in a d24? How do i bleed the system of air?
Yeah, you'll need to bleed the injection system.

Nice work, are you gonna put an intercooler in aswell? It's gonne help keeping the engine from warping if you ever decide to bump up the fuel mixture.
Yup! The intercooler setup will also be an episode.
