I like the look. Nice! I had painted the spokes black before the company started making them black because I'm not a fan of that neon yellow neither. Lol! I used a cover paint for plastic with built in primer. Then I laid a clear protective coat over that to protect from bumps and bruises. And although the package says that they're pre-balanced...some still need balancing. But I'll like to see how this paint works out. My only issue is the paint around the wheel nut rubbing off after a while off removing the wheels for maintenance. I probably should've used another coat or two of the protectant.
I have found out by using a plastic cup cut out the bottom and tape face down on the wheel and tape it down it saves tape, paint and time also I just flip it over and paint the back side of the wheel.
So first step clean ypur rims, tape off rims to keep paint from places not desired, then get yourself a nice greasy pizza box and put your clean rims on it to paint.
Wheels came out awesome! I know how big of a pain they are to tape off... I did the centers of mine black and left the yellow lip.. Ugh don't get me started with the wheel balancing... I'm having a hard time keeping the balance clay on the wheels... Every run I find balance clay under my body it's very aggravating I'm looking for a fix... The stuff I use now is losi wheel balance clay..
rustler donnie I used the really wide blue painters tape and used a blade to cut out the parts to be painted, so it wasn't too bad. I haven't gotten around to balancing them yet, though. Turns out I also got a shipment from Delta Platsik and will be trying out some of their SP Racing tires which are reported to be as good if not better than GPRs. (The unboxing bide should be up in a day or so). These are a "solid disk" wheel, so I'm using a decal to change the exterior color and used a paint-marker to color the lip silver. This has no effect on performance, but at least now they kinda match the car.
2cwik4u104 Actually, I may not run these. I also got a package from Ben @ Delta Plastik with a set of their new SP Racing wheels which are supposed to give GRPs a run for their money. I'll let you know how they do.
rhouse21 - RC Physics its pretty apparent you don't follow my channel. ben has gave me soft, medium and hard compound tires. they are absolutely awesome on road racing tires, but they don't hold up to speed runs. I was able to get the soft compound up over 100mph once, but would have internal foam failure at around 95mph. good luck with your runs on them.
I really do watch your videos, along with a lot of other guys. Unfortunately, family life doesn't always leave me very much time to fully absorb everyone's stuff. I remembered you had some issues with blow-outs, but I just completely spaced out that those were SP Racing tires that you had the problems with. When I exchanged messages with Ben, he implied that the SPs were new to the market, so I didn't make the connection. Also, Tony Smith gave them a strong recommendation in a comment. Honestly, I was spending so much time trying to make my foams work I haven't spent a lot of time researching rubber tires other than GRP. Now I'm not sure it I want to even try to run the SPs. Thanks for the heads-up, and please don't take offense to my brain-fart. Your videos helped to inspire me to go for the higher speeds in the first place.
giving you a hard time Physics. lol. all good. but I haven't had a single blow out. the glue and tires themselves are very well made, but the inner foam is where I kept having failure. the foam would rip and bundle in the tire, causing a lump under the rubber. they might have changed their foams, but Ben hasn't informed me, as of yet?
You got paint all over the rubber, there's a way to keep from doing that! When you use 3M blue tape, tape the whole rim and wheel and cut out with a fine tip X-ACTO Knive! You'll never get paint on the rubber ever again...
But what about cutting the rubber? Cause you have to cut right at that seam right? I'd be worried that its cuts the rubber even slightly. Also do you rebalance your wheels? Would I need to on a 1/7th scale mojave tires?? Thanks
Thanks for watching! Balancing your tires is really important for high speed applications (70-100+mph), but it may not make a huge difference on a 35-45mph off roader. The shock of the bumps will probably overwhelm any advantages.
This method isn't for everyone. Since then, I've experimented with other paints and methods that have gotten better results. The bottom line is that I made some cheap, bland $20 wheels look slightly more interesting.... before I beat the living snot out of them. That's all I was looking to do so I was happy with the result. 😎 Thanks for watching.
@@RCPhysics try taking the tyres off then you won't get any on the tyre and won't need tape,, rub the rim with some fine sandpaper or scotchbrite, this will key the plastic so the paint will adhere. Guaranteed better result
@@MrJhorseman Actually, I've done a few tire painting videos and forgot which one this was. 😅 I bought these tires pre-mounted, so I didn't have the option of dis-mounting them. I've used the exact method you suggested on other wheels that I bought "un glued" though. Her's a link to another set I did with a much nicer result. ua-cam.com/video/oF0PpsGqTaY/v-deo.html
This was my first time trying this. I admit that the paint wasn't perfect, but you'd never se the imperfections at standing height, so I counted that as a success. I've gotten a lot better painting wheels now after a few more sets, but getting good results with "normal" paint is actually pretty tough because the paint tends to flake off with any impacts. I've got something new planned to get around this, though. Thanks for watching... even if you didn't like the end result. 😉

Dan P Yeah, I figure I'm going to loose a lot of paint to chips and rubbing, so I plan to touch them up with a silver paint-marker when needed.
I have a silver paint pen too...good idea!

Custom GRPS !! Nice work RCFL brother
JM Speck It's not Dan P level, but it works!
Bro that looks real good!! And thanks for the compliment. Lol!!! Here's a secret...I used black to hide the flaws!!
Thanks bro

Cool painting
RC Performance Studio Thanks!. I just couldn't do the yellow!
Damn man you faked me out good 😂I just bought those wheels for my Mercedes s550 and want to know how to paint them🧐
I have a few wheel painting videos, so make sure to watch the lates one for my best/most current advice. Thanks for watching!
Silver wheels look nice seems like most vehicles come with black wheels.
Thanks!
wheels look good. now to see how you like the grp's.

Nice
GotNoChill RC Thanks!
One Luv!
mtctookie25 Thanks, sir!
Yupp I use the same paint for my wheel paintings, str8 from auto zone lol. Glad to see im not the only one!
Street Dreamz If it works, it works!
Guys does it hold up? It doesn't flake off over time??
I did a couple sets and they are holding up ok. I got some flaking but that's probably from the abuse I've put them through.
Happy Thanksgiving!
big like!!
Thanks!
Nice Bro ;-)

Everyone seeing something I don't? The paint hasn't properly adhered and the edge is disgusting not to mention the tyre being covered in paint
