Maine-Walmart, 5/28/23: Bread 1.32, Pasta .98, Beans .78, Sauce .44 {8 oz}, 2 Bananas .54, Chocolate bar 1.00=$5.06. I don't know the comparison between the pound & dollar but I doubt it is that much. Being in Maine, food doesn't have tax but still a sizeable difference. This was fun!
That's it, I'm moving to the UK. The cheapest spaghetti noodles here is Walmart, and they are 92 cents. I am in awe at just how much Jay and Sammie were able to buy with ONLY 2 pounds. Un-frikken believable. Cheapest tomato sauce for 15oz is .88cents, tin of beans, 1.88, 1.10 for a loaf of bread, 0.27cents for a banana. That's 5.32 without 6% tax...and that is the cheapest it will get.
@@naturalPaths I lived in the UK and the price of food here in the USA is more expensive than there. Brands are different as well. The US food market is very expensive when compared with the UK and most of Europe .
You and Sammie teaming up was brilliant! That was a very nice day's worth of food. And Luke and Ash provided the comic relief😂 It made me curious so I looked at Walmart's website and if you bought store brand items the same food Jay and Sammie bought it would be close to $6 US (with tax). So a little under 5 pounds.
Great video! I tried to do the conversion to dollars... but no matter how hard I looked, I don't think you can get that much food, at the store, for that little in the US 😂
That's what I was thinking. How on earth!? Aldi is the cheapest grocery store where I am, and I would still have a very hard time finding just 1 thing for that amount.
Before dollar tree stores went up to a $1.25 from $1 if two people joined together like you and Sammie they could get a loaf of bread and a small jar of peanut butter! Now with out going over it would just be peanut butter! Lol
would have been even better if they'd all pooled the whole £5 together and they'd been able to get £5 worth of shopping from the supermarket, they'd have done even better with it and fed everyone!
Ramen noodles and Mac n cheese were my go tos when I was young and broke but the Ramen is no longer 10 cents a package and I can't remember how much the Kraft mac n cheese has gone up. Definitely crazy how much inflation we've seen over the years but nothing has been as bad as the inflation we've seen over the past two years.
As a little caveat, try to contextualize how difficult this is for unhoused people. Even if they did what Sammi and Jay did, they don’t have a place to cook it. It’s really a tragedy to imagine how prevalent food scarcity is worldwide.
* cries in American * because your groceries are so cheap compared to ours and our shelf prices also don't include tax so it's a surprise amount added on when you go to the register.
biggest bit of advice i'll give you all, pool ALL of the pounds together so you have £5 to go to the supermarket, go to Aldi or Lidl and spend a fiver in there on shopping for the whole squad, you'd have come out with meals for all of you and change, plus, better sweeties! haha
Great video ♡♡ really funny how everyone decided to use their money lol I'd definitely be like the girls but I've got so many food intollerances my bread and pasta would be £5 sooooo not sure what I'd do !
American here. The pasta, beans, sauce would be $1 each, bread like $3, chocolate over $1. Bananas pretty cheap. Cheeseburger like $1.30. This would be lame. I'd be napping all day like Stoney
As an Australian, you literally can’t get anything under $1 anymore. For reference, I believe one pound is the equivalent of one dollar and ninety four cents in Australia. So you could maybe get a can of tomatoes or something and that’s about it.
That is insane!!!! 😳😮 I’m an American 🇺🇸 (go team USA 🙂) and I just calculated how much 1 pound is in US dollars ($1.22)…And that is how much food they were able to buy?!? How? It is official, the inflation in the US is out of control 😒
I am honestly embarrassed how expensive the US is compared. That's 1.22 American, Ash's bar would cost 3.50. I can't believe that. You should do some more videos in that vein. So surprised.
Do yall not have taxes when you buy food?? Like in America if you see something for 99 cents it'll really be like $1.07 ish after tax is added at check out. It's quite annoying lol
@Elizabeth Scott wooow ok that's so different than USA haha. I wish it was like yall!! It sucks getting to check out and not knowing how much I should have over rounded what price is shown lol
@@allyburnett3315 It's like that in America becuase there are different tax rates in different states. Companies don't want to set a different price for each state so they just add the local tax on at checkout..
I converted 1 pound to New Zealand dollars and I could possibly buy a chocolate bar that is the size of Ash's shortbread and then have maybe 80 cents left which can buy nothing :')
I'm brazilian, and I could never use Sam and Jay's strategy. I wouldn't be able to buy even a bottle of water with that money. Here I would have spent at least R$ 30,00
Food is expansive her in the united states ,not only that I visited Canada , took abou150.00 American dollars and got 200. Canadian money back, just show woman are better pickers
I'm American and I'm STUNNED at how much Jay and Sammie got for that amount.
Seriously!!!

Tragic….in the US, Joanna and Sammie’s gorgeous haul would’ve cost at least $10-20.
That's what I was saying! There's no way I could do this where I live. The "cheap" food is $1.... total.
Yeah but $1 is not equal to £1.
I’m not sure it would’ve coast 10-12 in south florida, but it surely would have been more than $1.22 US.
@@naturalPaths I lived in the UK and the price of food here in the USA is more expensive than there. Brands are different as well. The US food market is very expensive when compared with the UK and most of Europe .
@@Gymcoach1 Wow, that’s a big difference!
I love the Ash Watson Meal prep. Hilarious! Food is so expensive out here. Most things are over a dollar plus we have tax.
Tax is already added to the price here
Ash’s experience would have been the American experience on $1. I don’t even think you can get a king size candy bar anymore for under $1.
You and Sammie teaming up was brilliant! That was a very nice day's worth of food. Kudos to Ash for actually going with it and dedication to the meal prep bit.
Better to ration it out from the start than to risk eating too much at once.
@@bethnichols2875 too right. I mean he loves them so some discipline was needed. 🤣
absolutely loving vlogmas!! fantastic videos that are making every day in December just a little more fun!
Love your videos 💞 Sammie & Luke..love is in the air! Happy Christmas to all the Squad 🎅🤶🎄

You really cannot.

They bought the shops own branded food aren’t they a bit cheaper?
@Spongebob29 yes, the store brand is cheaper, but you still would not be even close to getting all they got for the US equivalent.
Even stuff in the Dollar store in the US would cost more than a dollar.
Before dollar tree stores went up to a $1.25 from $1 if two people joined together like you and Sammie they could get a loaf of bread and a small jar of peanut butter! Now with out going over it would just be peanut butter! Lol
I can't get over how much I love the intro ♡♡
Girls, doing it together was kinda cheating though... but I won't tell the boys 🤪Can't stop laughing over Ash's meal prep 🤣 Oh Stoney 🥴

This was so interesting well done Sammie and jay

Alfie Deyes could never
Oooo I like you and Sammys idea - I'd spend it on pasta and sauces like you did
Ash’s meal prep 😂🤣

Love it Joanna Wilson Fam
Love your videos keep it up
did anyone else see sammie put her arm around lukeee???🥲🥲💖
i love you so much Joana , video suggestion “ doing men gymnastics !! “ “ the squad do cheer “ “ the. Squad do my level gymnastics “
Food is expensive here so it wouldn’t go far in my end of the world, but it’s fun to watch.
Me too. For example, you can’t even get a single banana for 1$CAD here
* cries in American * because your groceries are so cheap compared to ours and our shelf prices also don't include tax so it's a surprise amount added on when you go to the register.
How were you able to get that much food?! I’m from NY and there’s noooo way, I could maybe buy and apple or a maybe a candy with that much😱
Same I am so confused!!!
I feel like I would definitely be with Joanna and Sami, and I feel like I should go to like a bargain store
Any other Aussies blown away by how much Jay and Sammie could buy for 2 pounds?! That would cost like 5 pounds here!
I love your videos
Unfortunately food prices in the US are so high you might get a tin of tuna or veg but definitely not both and only if you shop at Aldi's.
I love this so much
But I wish we had seen you actually live the day with just 1 pound
biggest bit of advice i'll give you all, pool ALL of the pounds together so you have £5 to go to the supermarket, go to Aldi or Lidl and spend a fiver in there on shopping for the whole squad, you'd have come out with meals for all of you and change, plus, better sweeties! haha

Great Teamwork Jay and Sammie! Did Like and Ash starve to death? LOL
I would do what Jay and Sammie did but I would share my food with Luke. I've always felt bad eating in front of someone who doesn't have any food.

It's amazing how 1 pound can get you pasta, bread, two banana and chocolate while 1 dollar will not even get us pasta.
2 pounds, jay and sammy teamed up.
US dollar equivalent is $1.22, bread alone is $1.25 😭 there’s no way we can buy a days worth of food even with the $2.44
I live in the U.S. Even if I had 2 dollars, I'd be screwed. lol
Buy 1kg of potatoes, boil 'em, mash 'em, eat 'em with some yoghurt
The girls probably could have gotten even more if they'd gone to Aldi (at least a year ago when this filmed, now? They've be lucky to get half of it)
I am honestly embarrassed how expensive the US is compared. That's 1.22 American, Ash's bar would cost 3.50. I can't believe that. You should do some more videos in that vein. So surprised.
I know I shouldn't feel sorry for Stoney as that was the gamble but he looked so sad.

Even with grouping together I think y'all cheated... By driving to the shop, petrol ain't cheap 😂
In Canada a loaf of bread is almost $5…..I want to move now…

That is about $2.88 in the USA just about enough for the bread. That is sad
Shows girls have the brains and boys have no forward planning!
If they had food in the house could they have just eaten that?
If I had 1£ I would starve (like Luke) because I live in the U.S., and no one would sell me anything for 1£... or 10£. 😬
I think i can't buy a full lunch for 1 Pound in germany😆
yes, you can. 1 pound is 1,14 Euro. That's doable
