I'm not doubting that leaving competitive gymnastics was the right choice for you Nile, but I will say that every time you try anything gymnastics like, like cheerleading, or trampoline, your smile is the most genuine and your eyes light up like nowhere else.

Watch former women’s elite gymnasts do college gymnastics. They have so much fun with it even though it’s considered “less.” They love the ability to do the sport they’ve participated in since they were kids with a fraction of the pressure and injury. I’m sure Nile feels the same way about his fun youtube videos. Less pressure, less risk of injury, less divisive competition. Just doing a thing you love because it’s fun.
Katelyn Ohashi’s smile during her college floor routine makes me so happy, knowing how miserable elite gymnastics made her.

I’m not even exaggerating, I’ve never seen anybody as genuinely excited about ANYTHING in my life as Nile was about cheer in this video! I mean, other than like, the rest of us being excited for beer and pajamas after a bad day.

What I loved about the training here with the cheerleaders is that they literally throw their bodies underneath you to protect each-other - awesome teammates

This comment is a year late but oh well. With things like this be it for cheerleading or circus (I’m sure others as well btu I’ve heard this from cheerleaders and I have trained in various circus skills) bases are trained to no matter what not let your flyer hit the ground. The base has a much lower risk of injury getting hit by a flyer than the flyer does hitting the ground. Circus is extra scary because there’s often way less people basing or spotting. When I was first learning to stand on someone’s shoulders it was usually just the one base and the coach supervising. I was (and still am tbh) terrified of two highs. The first time I ever agreed to let go of my bases hands and fully stand up when I came down I saw that two of my friends were standing behind us in case something went wrong/I didn’t know to jump off the front and it really touched me.
As the teammate who was consistently chosen to be the spotter because I would run underneath the falling people instead of away; it really does take a certain type of person to truly be a good spotter. Thanks for recognizing us 🥰
I was in a dance routine where we incorporated some simple cheerleading lifts(some of the dancers were exoerienced cheerleaders). I was a rear spotter and during one rehearsal one of the base guys had his wrist lock up mid lift and our flyer dropped but i instantly caught her in my arms got her foot to my head and went down with her landing on me.
This is how Nile gets back to the Olympics. Cheerleading has been recognized by the IOC and will be featured at the 2024 Olympics.

that's cheer for you if a flyer hits the floor its 50 cheer burpees for me and other gyms have 50 pushups

Well it's the number 1 rule in cheer: Flyer never hits the floor
It may be weird, but the thing I find most impressive is that they run full speed towards a wall without fear. They're doing these long lines of tricks and flips literally full speed towards a wall. Mental.
I've seen quite a few videos of cheerleaders and gymnasts actually missing their friends' or coach's screams to stop and then slamming into a wall, usually a padded one though :')
Gymnasts train with vault as an event which is literally running full-speed at a block you're planning to spring off of, that's the thing they have to mentally comquer. When you're doing a tumbling pass on floor you don't even see the wall, doesn't even enter into your mind. Lol.
You're normally too focused on your first skill or whatever you've just been instructed to fix.
I'm more scared running at people than the wall. The walls are usually padded. People, however... I did a dive roll-cartwheel-roundoff combo warming up and came face to face with another cheerleader clear at the end of the other mat (I'm quite tall and cover some ground when I run). Both of us fell over because it scared us. XD From then on, nobody was allowed to stand at the very edge of the mat even though it was really long.
Of course Nile would get every single skill, in a couple of hours, that took me like 3 years to get😅 obviously this was my favorite video because I’m a competitive cheerleader. You need to do more cheerleading! Edit: but Nile basing not only flying!

He’s also done a cheerleading video before, his ex and her twin sister (also Luke’s ex) were competitive cheerleaders so he did a video with them like or 3 years ago

The learning curve of these guys is amazing! They pick stuff up so quickly.
This was the easiest for them because of the relation of gymnastic movements. It seemed that the competitive cheerleaders were actually learning as well because they are also dealing with world level veteran gymnast.
Truly amazing.
as an all star cheerleader… i LOVED this. seeing other people that have never tried the sport love it only 1 hr into practice is just heartwarming. cheerleading is such a beautiful sport and i wish more people would consider it as one and understand why people do it. i really appreciate you trying this and bringing awareness to how fun and exciting it is to be on a cheerleading team. 🥺💗
I LOVE how everyone spots each other. There was a moment at 4:11 where Nile makes a noise during his last move. You can see Luke instantly move towards him to help spot if needed. It seemed instinctual.

the fact that nile was a better flyer within like an hour than i was in my 15 years of cheerleading 😭
The difference between literally olympic atletes and "just" some ordinary people with a hobby they love... I am sure you were great after all that time though.
I can't even do anything they did after a year now.
@@phoenix72999 very true, but flying requires being held up by literal people, and learning how to make yourself lighter. Even for an olympic athlete it would be somewhat difficult. But sometimes, in nile’s case, you’re just naturally very good at it, which is kinda rare to see. Super super impressed with him :)

“This is the easiest sport we’ve ever tried” - I’ve always felt like cheerleading is basically just team floor exercises, so if you’re good at FX it makes sense that the a lot of this comes naturally to you. Really cool that they let you be flyers! And seeing Luke try the lifting was a great show of how hard that side of things is too.
Ash looked so happy when Nile did that second twisty thing. I really want the three musketeers to continue with cheerleading.
Seeing these guys enjoying cheerleading is incredible. I never got to this team's level, but it's a lot more difficult than it seems. It's nice to have people see how amazing cheerleading can be. Stunting is the fun part.
I love the way at 9:54 Joanna's cheerleading instincts kicked in fron when she did it at Cambridge.
I don't think that ever goes away! I'm 20 years out, and I'm 500% certain I'd go in for a spot if I was around a stunt group again.

Love this video. I didn't realize competitive cheer was a big deal in the UK. Shoutout to that base who was lifting Nile, Luke and Ash like it was nothing. Dude is a hoss! Almost makes me miss my cheer days. I certainly don't miss the elbows to the face and bodies falling all over me. Ahh the glories of being a backspot 😝

I take it you’re not involved with UK Cheer..? Obviously it’s not on the same scale as it is in the USA, but it’s definitely bigger than most people realise. If you go to one of the big National competitions, such as Future Cheer Nationals (held in Bournemouth every summer) there are literally tens of thousands of cheerleaders competing over the weekend.
Cheerleading within the UK has grown massively over the last decade especially, and there are teams, including Coventry Dynamite, who compete at the World Cheerleading Championships in Florida every year now. One of their teams actually placed third in their division a couple of years ago!

Honestly, I just love seeing them so happy and excited. The way they hug each other and the pure bliss on their faces because they get to try all of these things together. As a gymnast, I actually did ballet and cheerleading. I was the "tumbler" on our squad. I could do more than just a basic flip, so that was my job. LOL

4:10 I can not interpret Luke's step forward any way other than his spotting instinct taking over. In the back of his mind, he could see Nile maybe not rotating enough, then he stepped back when he nailed it
