This 2018 season, we encountered 13 species of sharks, 7 species of rays, 4 species of dolphins surrounded by the giant diversity of the Philippines reefs. The year 2018 is also the 30th anniversary of Tubbataha reefs National Park. Our sighting result, for this season, shows the good conservation and the good actions done by the Park Management and the Rangers to protect the reef.
Philippines and Sulu Sea represent around 30% of underwater bio diversity.
This year, the weather hasn't been on our side during the whole season. Nevertheless, I have been able to observe sharks and ray behaviors, I had never seen before. Such as an oceanic manta ray slapping a silver tip shark to keep its cleaning station. I had never witnessed the competition between these two animals int the past.
Another extraordinary situation was during a CCR course with my student Serge Algrain , we have been surrounded by 5 species of sharks in the same time. Sharks were turning like a "carrousel" around us for 15 minutes, very close from each other (30 cm from noses to tails). The 5 species were a bunch of silky sharks, 2 silver tip sharks, 2 hammerheads, a bunch of grey reef sharks and another bunch of white tip reef sharks. All of this followed by a whale shark and a huge oceanic manta few minutes later, once we were back to the wall.
Unfortunately, while teaching CCR, I couldn’t shoot all the incredible situations, we have been exposed. But I still think, this short clip will reflect how beyond beauty are Sulu Sea and the Philippines.

M/V Seadoors is at the shipyard for a fully renovation. The next Seadoors season's will begin October 20, 2018 in the Visayas Seas.
We have now an itinerary going to Sulu Sea - Cagayancillo from Cebu, including Malapascua and Apo Island during our Visayas season.
