While SMT4 has a somewhat consistent vibe for it's OST, SMT5 has a lot of hit or miss tracks depending on the person so I was quite shocked about the other track not being your thing but I wasn't shocked that this would get you
I think SMT4 is more tonally consistent so it's more well regarded although it wasn't by some people when it came out for some reason, but I actually think SMT V is just as good.
SMT4 went atmospheric as fuck knowing the technical limitations of the 3ds Believe me, SMT4 has amazing tracks (B2, B3, B6 etc.) But SMT5 has its bangers too (the taito overworld ost is literally a bittersweet version of the creepy kiccigiorgi forest theme... But it is just.... Amazing)
Yeah, I would say this is probably one of the better Techno/Industrial/Bollywood/Religious Chant hybrids out there. But no joke, this theme is madly experimental, and that's why I love it. It blends the ancient and spiritual with the futuristic and technological really well, and that's pretty much SMT in a nutshell. The series started with a computer program that summons demons, for heaven's sake. This is a late-game boss theme, and it tends to play when you fight against gods from and around the Middle East (Hindu gods, Egyptian gods, Babylonian gods, etc.). For example, this plays when you fight that green god in the lower left of the video image (the Egyptian moon god, Khonsu). What I really love about this theme, though, is how it feels both meditative and frantic at the same time. The steady chanting and the percussion are hypnotizing and suck you into this almost prayer-like state, but at the same time... dark and frenetic dance rave. It's such a bizarre way to do a battle theme, and yet, when you're fighting for your life against all-powerful deities from some of the oldest Asian religions in a post-apocalyptic cityscape... there really isn't anything better to play to capture the moment.
I'm obscenely happy that you're going to react to Battle - Destruction too. It's legitimately become one of my favorite songs ever made. First time I heard it, it was intensely uncomfortable. It provoked an incredibly personal and deep sense of existential terror and despair in me, but the more I've listened to it, I've started finding peace in it. Very buddhist-like, a peace that all life is transient and illusory, and that that's okay. Things begin, and things end. And that's okay.
Glad you enjoyed this one more! As it happens, Ryota Kozuka was a sound lead on all 3 Persona Dancing games for additional music, I think the dude just wants to make a disco album tbh
No Worries Jesse we all indeed human and we like something and we don't like other thing but what make me a subscribe to your channel is the honest reaction and not just doing reaction and like it because its came from patron or else.
Agreed man love how genuine this dude is doesn’t play up for the camera or anything, might not be one of the biggest react channels but his honesty and down to earth nature are what got my sub
Absolutely banger of a battle track and imo one of the best in the series. Just puts you into a trance its so good. The heavy experimentation of SMTV's soundtrack is so great because every listen to a track always has something to uncover (for me in this track it would be the distorted breathing before the godly percussion drop) and it only makes you fall in love again Da'at Konan 3rd Block is my absolute favorite track in SMTV and its not even a battle theme. The ost's ability to sell the atmosphere is amazing
Honestly when I saw the previous SMTV video I immediately thought "oh it's this theme, it's not really that special so I wonder what he'll end up thinking". This one I knew immediately that you were going to like. Like some others have said, SMTV's soundtrack experiments a lot. There are lots of fantastic tracks but also quite a few that just kinda become background noise. I really hope you get a chance to listen to more of the soundtrack, especially some non-battle tracks like Da'at: Ueno. It's one of my favorite area themes in the entire series.
Ayyy glad to hear your opinion on SMT5 improved. Here's hoping to see more of it on this channel. And your epiphany regarding "humans, demons and..." is spot on. That's a theme that mostly plays with unexpected bosses, mainly those with direct story significance and are narratively tense moments (Nuwa comes to mind), while this theme plays on bosses who I feel you're on a more even field with (Neutered Ishtar notwithstanding lmao), though it does play for one particular story boss as well. Which theme plays on which battle is a wild card like that in this game.
This is by far one of my favorite songs from an SMT game, my favorite is still the "Reason" main boss battle theme from SMT Nocturne. SMT V has great songs, includding the Shiva Super Boss theme.
I like how experimental this OST can get at times and how varied it is as well, this song caught me off guard the moment it played and I was so hype in that battle I really like some of the endgame fight music, I think you must have seen a billion requests for Shiva's theme already 👍
3:02 & 5:07 I love the drums that come in at the bridge here, they’re easily my favorite part of the song. I really like how they sound…mechanical? For lack of a better descriptor. I’ve been trying to make a mix of this track on and off for a few months now, but ran into a wall when it came to them. I think they’re sidechained, but I can’t tell what other effects are on them. Maybe some distortion and delay? They’re definitely pitch-bent to D. Edit: Ohhhhh, Jesse’s probably right, PBC pipes! That makes sense
I understand your take on Both SMTV song u heard so far... Even though you're not exactly fond when first listening the previous one, It was actually the one stood out the most for me, ironically It's such a good turn-based event song, swapping left & right
Damn you explain very good about music stuff it even peaks my interest about some concepts that I even didn't even know that's what I like about your videos that you take your time to explain some things that a tree happening in the song and stuff like that
Forgot to comment this when I first saw this vid but doesn't that hollow percussion sound at 3:02 remind you of Hwoarang's theme from Tekken Tag? Such a unique sound in VGM and I love it
Ah yes, they went back to the smt roots. The godly disco train roots: "Divine Entity" from Digital Devil Saga 2 and "Brahman", the Supernova Mix version
Yeah the previous smt 5 track I feel is better in context. But I wouldn't say its the best on it's own. You should feel okay with being open to your audience
My favorite Battle theme from 5 is Battle -Origin. But yeah smt 5 was very hit or miss Battle theme wise for me. Its area theme (specifically Tokyo daylight) was a vibe, but the battle themes weren't as consistent with other megaten games like Nocturne, 4, Devil Survivor, or the persona games.
I understand you not liking the last song, but I will say. There's another version that sounds similar but more...complete? It's called Da'at. And I honestly like it way way more so I get where you're coming from.
I know this is kinda old but I'm actually surprised by this two songs being chosen. I mean, they aren't bad just... not really the most unique in the game? Like, literally the most psycodelic? one is " World of Shadows -Shining Bright, or Death's Shadow- " when among battle themes Battle -Seeker- and Battle -Strength- are the most noticeable. Actually, "He who fought forces of chaos and order" is quite interesting too...
When it came out, SMT V ost was divised, some people like it others hate it (i was in the later), after playing the game, i love it, but it has very short tracks, and they repeat a lot in the same battle wich ends up being a little tedious. I think my major problem is that i wish the tracks were longer (there's some, and all of them slaps)
SMT5 is not my most favorite game, however one of my most favorite tracks is from SMT5. Could you like please listen to World of Shadows. It really is a great song
Humans, Demons, and... is much easier to appreciate if you actually played the game since it's a remix of the main battle theme (Da,at battle). Which I recommend more to anyone who want's get into SMTVs ost. Also you don't hear that boss theme often in the game.
SMTV's ost is best described as a can of worms, some or badass gummy worms and some or maggots depending on who's listening. The context of Crazy dancing Murder is a primordial goddess decides to smite you and brings her DJ and disco ball along.
I actually just finished listening to this ost today. It wasn't really my thing, the main SMT series isn't my cup of tea musically. At least Persona was great the whole way though. I remember this song, I'll give my thoughts. The beat is cool, I do like the bass tone. The vocal chant things sound odd to me but that was on purpose. I really like the electronic elements in this, some interesting effects here. It gives the song an interesting feel. Great beat overall, I don't mind this song.
Jesse saying that the Last SMTV song he listened to was a miss for him is truly an SMT moment.
Truly a Yukari Takeba moment
@@askeladd7271 truly a marin Karin moment
Truly a Matador moment
Truly an Ananta moment
And that was the level up song lmfao
While SMT4 has a somewhat consistent vibe for it's OST, SMT5 has a lot of hit or miss tracks depending on the person so I was quite shocked about the other track not being your thing but I wasn't shocked that this would get you
Ya this track was a really good call actually. Kinda the opposite of the other one. I liked them both honestly.
I think SMT4 is more tonally consistent so it's more well regarded although it wasn't by some people when it came out for some reason, but I actually think SMT V is just as good.

Jesse’s trying not to head bop “poker face” 😂 it’s hard not to with this one.

He should.
An entire rave in one song

Oh yes, 8 press turns Ishtar fight is fun 👏
As long as you have Raja Naga with taunt or fierce roar, she's a cakewalk

Bits of this always gave me a kind of goa/infected mushroom-ish vibe.
ah yes, Khonshu, Ishtar and Vasuki know how to keep you pumped during their battles. Best BGM in Shin Megami Tensei V IMO
Got to be one of my favorite battle themes in the game. Battle Destruction is also in strong contention imo.
This ost slaps honestly best part of the game lol
i hope someone will request the shiva's battle theme, it's also amazing
Ah yes, they went back to the smt roots. The godly disco train roots: "Divine Entity" from Digital Devil Saga 2 and "Brahman", the Supernova Mix version
I'm going back to this hoping SO hard for Jesse to listen to Battle Destruction someday after going through days of torture by dance.
Yeah the previous smt 5 track I feel is better in context. But I wouldn't say its the best on it's own. You should feel okay with being open to your audience
I was looking to see if you actually reacted this song in particular yesterday!

Holy fuck this song is good 😭

SMT music needs to be highlighted more
SMT my beloved!

It’s mind Boggling that you still haven’t Iistened to a Digital devil saga soundtrack…
