Copenhagen, Denmark - I found Nightwish in the early spring of 2019. I have many favorite songs. This however is my favorite lineup. I think that Kai Hahto is a fantastic drummer. I just miss Jukka Nevalainen befind the drumset and Marko’s singing. When I frist saw him I thought “that’s the angry Wizard”. When I heard “Ghost River”, I just said “YES” to myself.
I'm in NY! One of my favorites! It's unbelievable how Floor was up there in her mix, belting that high over and over in the last third of the song after the key change.

Nightwish is the whole package. State of the art musicians, an outstanding composer/lyricist, and two breathtaking vocalists with stage presences that are out of this world.
I love to watch your reactions, you cannot hide the joy you feel when listening to Nightwish. I was at Wacken in 2013, a night that changed my life (for the good). Also I got to see them live again at Tampere in 2015, another phenomenal show! I may be an old git but I still have treasured memories. 😎 Keep up the good work, Becky, and keep smiling! 😃

This is my favorite Nightwish song and the only one I learned on guitar, bass, and drums, though I’m sure I’ve forgotten the drum part by now. Floor has said it’s the hardest NW song from before her era to sing.
Floor has said that this is one of the more challenging songs for her to sing. Tarja sang it originally, and she was great too. But, it's Marko's small part that really make the song for me.

If you want to see an incredible display of Floor's interaction with the crowd, I highly recommend you react to "Amaranth" from this same Wacken concert. Floor has the whole crowd engaged and it is so epic you can see Tuomas (keyboards) with his hands on his head in amazement.
I'm from the U.S., but I've traveled on business in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) and to Germany (was at Wacken Open Air 2013), Finland (was at Tampere 2015). Did business in South Korea and in northern Japan. Retired before Baby Metal came into being I think. Enjoy the craziness.

Hi Becky, signing in from the Swansea Valley in South Wales. Great reaction. The difference at the end, alongside Floor's amazing belt-a-thon, is Jukka's use of double kick drums to make the song more propulsive (even though the tempo is the same). It really adds power to the denouement.
Wow. Listening to this right after "Erblicket Die Töchter Des Firmaments" is quite the contrast, I must say. That's what they normally play over here in the Underworld. It's nice and comfy down here, although a bit hot for my liking. I have to confess that I like Floor's vocals a little - just a little - better though. Hopefully the Lord of Chaos won't be upset at me for saying this. Cheers!🤘

Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia.

Ever Dream is from their 2nd best album, Century Child (2002); their best is Wishmaster (2000). The band gives a killer title track performance on their End of an Era tour; I think you'd find their Helsinki performance mindblowing. (Maybe it's my bias, but I think only Tarja does this song justice) \m/
Edit: Check out Marko's band Tarot; he started it with his brother, who plays guitar. Marko does bass and (now) one of the two lead vocals; the other is a roadie & session singer turned full band member. The music video for Wings Of Darkness is the 25th aniversary rerelease of that song, and it not only showcases how well the band plays and meshes, but also how they've evolved over time. (if you've seen their 1986 Finnish tv performance, you'll know what I mean!)

If you don't mind, I would like to make a suggestion... Jimi Hendrix is legendary, but his music was recorded in a time when most cuts were short enough to be put onto a 45 record, usually below 3 minutes. If you were do do a review of some of his songs, perhaps you could do 2 or 3 in the same review. Two good ones would be "Hey Joe" and "All Along the Watchtower". If you want something smother and more lyric, listen to "Little Wing" and "Castles Made of Sand".
