- Exlusive: Cab Ride in the new Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Opened in June 2016 the Gotthard Base Tunnel is with 57km the longest railway tunnel in the world.
The tunnel connects the cantons of Uri in central Switzerland and Ticino in the south of Switzerland. With about 2300 meters he has also the highest coverage worldwide.
The tunnel consists of two tubes which are connected at two places in the mountains, the So-Called Mulifunktionsstellen with each other. These are named after the places on the route:
Sedrun multifunction station
Faido multifunction station
After 17 years of construction was on June 1, the formal presentation to the SBB CFF FFS.
The timetabled will be opened on December 11, 2016

It is indeed a most remarkable engineering achievement in so many respects. But as an outlander who has always been impressed by the magnificent scenery of Switzerland, I worry that SBB may abandon many of its services "above ground", in favor of the tunnel. Only time will tell. Thank you for a great video effort.
Cool 👍! Danke für's Mitfahrern 👍!
Excellent film, the railways in Britain are so behind its unreal. And it is against the rules here to have a mobile phone on in the cab, mind you it is practically against the rules to breathe or fart in the cab with the way things are going in the British rail industry!
Wow, what a long ride. It made me dizzy and knocked me out (put me to sleep) lol. I had to watch it again. Thanks for posting it. It is amazing how long it is and how it was constructed. :)
Was Angela Merkel and her SATANIST mates on it... I mean the rest of THE E U GANG
Herzlichen Dank!
Danke! 🔝👍
Brightly lighted the whole way- very friendly though :-)
This version has the Gotthard base tube with lights on. In most of the other Gotthard Base Tube videos , the lights are off.
Insane tunnel! 57km... holy cow!
The tunnel have Internet 4G inside in all extension?
Yes they do. All tunnels do.
even if not not 4G etc. noone cares, "but it has WLAN" is a stupid german exucse for everything
yes and 5G in a few months
This is the only video where all the Gotthard base tubes lights are turned on! 💕All the other videos are in the dark. 👍🏻🙂
Damn, talk about tunnel vision...
I'll see myself out.
Hello ! what was the top speed in the tunnel ? 200km/h or more ? Thanks !
For normal use, the speed will be 200km/h but the top speed is 250km/h.
249 ;-)
@@Telencephelon wegen Stau 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
@@Telencephelon Testfahrt.
Very nice video, which model of camera is it ? Go pro 7 ?
Don't get why the tunnel bends. If you're making a tunnel why not make it straight?
Interessante Fahrt.
What an achievement
Veramente bello questo tunnel. In Italia ne stiamo costruendo 2.
Put the speed to ×2
I don't know if anyone has already asked this. Is it a driverless train ? If not how do all those people get access to the driver's cabin ?
No, the train is controlled by a person. The cab is situated a the front of a passenger waggon. there is therefore a door to the cab.
This was a special trip so cab access by other than employees was granted.
Wofür ist der Abzweig bei 16.28 min???
oglądasz smartfona podczas jazdy ???
The tunnel made me sleep.......
Cooler Tunnel
Thank You ! Thank You !.......and one more for Goog Luck Thank You ! For making the video , I read all the other comments or most of them..... and I enjoyed the one about the video being monotonous Well, I would remind you - in only a kind way, it's only a video and one can skip ahead at any time. Just making a Funny. If you on the train,it's a whole other thing ! I enjoyed the ride ! and the noise, which I turned down. And will probably ride again, and again, if you don't mind ? And Thank You for sharing as I live in the great state of Pennsylvania, which is right next to the great state of Confusion, here in U. S of A. Enjoy the rest of your day where ever you are ! and my way of saying Bye Bye is ----- Later Gator !
The swiss people might not know how to build cars or airplanes but they are definitely good in tunneling
wifi in a tunnel that deep?
4g actually. pretty fast as well.
Erinnert an "Der Tunnel" von Friedrich Dürrenmatt
How hot will it be inside there if the train stops working? I have heard 115 °F (46 °C). Does the train heat up passing through? You would need lots of water for walking out, 3 or 4 L most likely per adult. I do not like hot places. How do they keep the bats and the deer out? Can the train roll to Italy over the last tunnel half?
Thank you Sumira. If ever I ride it I will have at least two gallons of water in rolling cart.
What are the GREEN THINGIES on the sides? Was sind die Grünen auf der Tunnelseite?
Very thoughtful, excellent !
In tunnels like these, detrainment will be the last last last resort - if it's a faulty train, they will try to arrange a locomotive to pull it out first.
Good question, I thought they were lights, then noticed they looked like metal panels or doors.
I think the speed limit is 160km/h in the tunnel.
160 kmh for freight trains and 200 kmh for passenger trains.
Doesn't look like 220k to me
Is that a bypass tunnel or something on 16:20 ?
It's a tunnel to the underworld🤔?
Junction with the other tunnel
ETCS Level 3?
Nein Level 2
ETCS=European Train Control System.
Id like to see tacho during ride!
Mega watter Bottom Left corner
👍
16:19 wo gehts da weg?
Überleitstelle in die zweite Tunnelröhre
No curvature adjustments, none.
It's suited for high speed rail service up to 300 km/h
What efforts are made to keep people from walking through the tunnel which would be a very dangerous and foolish act when high speed trains are passing through the tunnel. I read that immigrants have attempted to enter Britain via the channel tunnel and some died making this dangerous attempt.
Tunnel to small it’s costfobic
EU 44?
I made it 5:40... I feel like a warrior.
texting and train driving... hummm
How much is the ticket... YOUR SOUL 😱💩
Service :)
@@seriesimssuisse5172 You don't have to make up time climbing and descending to go over the mountain, just under it.
It is a shame they had to do this, sure it makes sense with the all the freight trains clogging the pass, but putting passengers through a "salami tube" is a disgusting way to get somewhere....the "over mountain" route through the pass was much better and a great scenic train ride....I hope they have enough sense to continue trains over that route too.
bootednancy I travel with trains through the alps 4 times a year... and I am really glad they built this tunnel bc it cuts the travel time by 2 hours. You have by far enough scenery and the tunnel is just a small part
Was the point of this video to show that the tunnel goes all the way thru? BORING!
OLD Gotthard line has a character..This is just another Idiotic cement tunnel.. :@@
I can't believe that the driver is playing with his phone, regardless of ETCS or not.
Passengers in the cab are a major distraction also, likely to bump or engage controls unintentionally.
Think Aeroflot flight 593.
I can cite numerous fatal accidents directly attributed to mobile phone distraction by a motorman or driver, where PTC was absent and/or the deadman was otherwise intentionally disengaged.
Professionalism is on the decline, because of the foolish belief that automation is infallible, across all transport sectors.
Human factors and the machine interface requires a major revamp globally.
It's ETCS level 2, nothing that can go wrong, can be handled better by a person than by the system itself. The fact that there is still a person in the cab has no technical reason, only political. The train can drive itself with ease.
This trip was a special one for invitees. The engineer or driver, by my guess, did not have a phone out playing with it. The phone(s) were in the hands of guests.
