    Nice review. After spending a bit of time with one of these guys, I can say, with confidence, that the focus issues within this video would not have happened if you had used the AX700 to shoot this video. It has terrifically intelligent auto-focus.

    You did not mention anything about the remote input, I wonder if you have plugged in a zoom remote controller into that port ie Sony RM-BP1 or a Manfrotto MVR901ECLA RC Lanc or similar, I have found one youtuber video that states the Sony RM-BP1 works with the Sony FDR AX700, I have found its very difficult to get any correct information regarding the remote port and its compatibility with any lanc zoom controllers.

    Thanks,
    I think AX700 have good price than NX80.
    I don't need FAST control audio on NX80. (can setting on camera, may be lower 5-10s, don't have big different with my work)
    So just need buy "handle for camera", we had little upgrade. haha.
    If wanna to upgrade gimbal, I think z90, nx80m ax700 need upgrade all.

    Hey, I just chatted with Sony and I kind of don't believe them about the following LOL. I bought the AX700 and I love it. But I do put it on a 20 foot tripod at times to record sporting events. I asked if there is a way to turn the camcorder on and off either remotely or through some kind of wired device, and they said No. I suggested the camcorder's remote, the Sony app (Imaging Edge), and asked for a wired option. I prefer not to drop the tripod during halftime for example just to shut off the camera, so hoping there is a logical option.

      All of the Sony microphones are excellent. Their small lavalier system, the ECM-W1M, is excellent and easy to use. Their UWP-D lavalier system is also excellent and works very well. Sony recently released a new shotgun mic that mounts directly into the Multi Interface Shoe, but I am not certain that it works with this camera. Sony has excellent accessory compatibility lists on their web site. Simply look up the camera page on sony.com and select Accessories. The compatible devices will be listed in a helpful graphic.

    I have never used a video camera, mainly full frame Nikon DSLR's. I am thinking of buying either the new Nikon Z6 or Sony AX700. If I mainly want it for Landscape and Rodeo videos, would you suggest the Sony or stay with Nikon? The Nikon Z6 is a full frame camera and can record 10 bit 4:2:2 if you record to an external recorder, otherwise it is also recording 8 bit 4:2:0.
    Thanks, Jim

    This is the second review of Sony AX 700 that I saw which left me disappointed. I was waiting to see actual footage shot with this camcorder and I saw none. Explaining the various features of the camera is all good and has its place but without a demonstration of its performance a review has no value. Presently I shoot my videos with a GoPro 9 and I was considering buying this camcorder but I received no help there. What I mostly want to know is how good the picture quality is and, equally important, how smooth and usable in a UA-cam video is the footage shot with this camera. How good is the video stabilization? Or do you need a gimbal for this? Those questions were not answered.

    received ax100 few days ago for christmas, 2019. Originally thought image stabilization of newer ax700 might be better, with an active mode ( defined by noob me as to mean some digital stabilization is added, more stability but with a slight crop of field of view). But sony usa web site indicates both ax700 and ax100 have same image stabilization. My main use is to do 4K videos of my model Lionel/ mth trains, from 1.5 to 6 ft out. With the ax100, hand held, there is a slight jumping movment, (microshake? ) any time I change the zoom before it settles down and refocuses. Thus, I thought the ax700 might have better stabilization. but now Im not sure if there would be any difference.
    I see the ax700 brings the newer 273 point focus, 2 ssd slots, hdr colors , higher resolution flip screen, but it uses the toggle and looses the ax100 touch screen on the flip up. the ax700 is $500 more than the ax100.
    that slight jumping zoom movment is the only thing I dislike about the ax100. my videos will almost always involves frequent zooming in and out at the 1.5ft to 6 ft distance filming items and trains on my trainboard, usually on a tripod. Might the ax700 help minimize that jump and refocus during zooming. I have no experience with videography except my older g10 which only did 1080p and am a noob doing videos.
    I wonder if the rocker on the ax100 does a stop and start during zooming, causing that movment and refocus. Please help guys

      After much reading, I've concluded the sony ax100 has rolling shutter wobble, sort of like a jello shaking. Same rolling shutter wobble that many have found on the 4k video produced by the new canon eos r.

    Is this Multi-Interface shoe larger than a standard cold shoe? I have an older Sony with the MIS, and my Rode VideoMic (nor any other standard shoes) is just too small to connect. Also, does the internal microphone shut off when an external mic is connected? I'm thinking about getting this cam, but may rethink if I can't connect anything standard the the MI Shoe.

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  4 роки тому

      So the shoe is the same physical size as all other cold shoes, but it is recessed into the body of the camera and under a door/flap. Sony and other third parties sell little adapters that raise the cold shoe higher for third party devices. Personally, all Sony accessories I have mounted work fine, but certain third party mics that have a wide part of their body close to their shoe mount might not fit into the cutout on the camera to get to the MIS. If the camera matches everything else you need, you should still consider it.

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  5 років тому +1

      It has a pretty healthy zoom range, but you might be better off with a compact camera that has a longer reach. Look up the Nikon P1000. Really long lens, 4K video, but a smaller sensor - which actually helps on panning shots for less rolling shutter in low light (think vertical lines that tilt when panning)

    greetings from mexico I have a problem with the sony ax700 I have a lot of noise in the image in any log you can help me with the correct parameters to record in low light thank you very much

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  5 років тому

      I would suggest you set an upper limit to the auto ISO/gain. Noise is usually a function of ISO (called gain in the video world). You may find your shots being too dark to use though. Light is your friend in video much more than in photography (in general). If you are looking for some good low price video lights, take a look at the Aputure Amaran F7 LED lights. They are very reasonably priced and high quality.

    What were you filming this with. I have the 1080p 60fps version of this body style and have had horrible trouble with the auto-focus. I was wondering if this camera has a similar issue. Thanks

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  4 роки тому

      I haven't had an issue with that as long as the light is good. This was filmed with either a Sony A6000 or A6400, I cannot recall which. When doing a single face shot like this I generally use manual focus and manual exposure settings to maintain the look I wanted to achieve.

    I bought this Sony FDR-AX700 last X-Mas'19. Apart from a good quality image I do declare this time Sony has failed in terms of menu and options. For me the worst is not possible to use LCD+viewfinder. A lot of times you need to have both screens on, but, sadly, no way to do it, because a sensor on the viewfinder detects your eye, your body, everything close the eyecup, and shut off LCD panel. Even if you rotate LCD front of the camera, and you put your eye over viewfinder, LCD turns off. Apart from this no way to show on display REC time of every clip each time you start/stop recording. It's an stupid lack that only happens in this cam. I have others Sony handycams, old models, and profi cams PXW series, and all of them shows rec time of everyclip, starting from zero each time you press REC for a new shot. Instead of this you have on display the total time you has recorded, no matter if you turn of the cam, or if you don't use it for some time... the only way to know how many (total) time you've done is resetting counter to zero. Really silly menu. And, no, there's no possible to stream by wifi, or lan adapter. Sony is losing the match if they don't decide to release and upgrade this cam. Last and only version was 1.01. in mid 2018. Thanks for give me the opportunity to express my opinion.

    I had the AX 100 from when it came out one of the earliest UHD camcorders and it was excellent camera.I would have purchased this newer version but it doesn’t have 60fps I have it on my smartphone.What is it with Sony they give you a few more refinements but for me the most important thing is the actual function of the recording format not the battery size or two card slots not enough to make me buy it .This is not the Sony of years ago..

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  4 роки тому +2

      I've been frustrated by this same issue. Sony has segmented their product line up quite a bit to maximize the revenue from each buyer. Unfortunately they are not the only ones doing it....

      @@jonasnitz7678 very much appreciated you detailed reply and link on the sony ax700 stabilization. I feel renewed that sony gave us a nicely capable tool in the ax700 and did not shortchange us. Its price of $1800 new, $1500 used is expensive but, with current technology, that seems money well spent for what it produces. The ax700 is at my point of diminishing returns. Spend less on the ax100 and get a terrible resolution screen but similar output photos. Spend more,and get far less incremental good.
