I'm a beginning quilter and especially love your easy to understand descriptions, steps, and encouraging smile. This is a big help which has altered my attitude of half-square triangle assembly. (7/8-inches should be outlawed!) this is So much easier.
What a nifty cutting strategy. Your quilt top turned out lovely.
Sew VERY Easy and so lovely too~ Thank you again Laura for bringing us this beautiful piece.
I am making this with star wars, galaxy, and solid print fabric for my best friend. This will be my second quilt and I think the design is gorgeous! Thank you for the pattern and accompanying it with a video!!
There are just so many great tips in this tutorial. At first glance I thought, "Sure, I know how to make half square triangle blocks 8 at a time", but that beautiful floral fabric was saying, "Come to me!" So of course I had to watch the whole video. And once again, you brought out detailed instructions that closed the deal in my wanting to make this pattern.
I really liked how you used the two rulers to make an accurate cut of the 16 1/2" square without having to move the fabric or the cutting mat. Those were my favorite tips of this video. At 3:40 when I saw that you were going to use the long ruler to cut off the fourth side of the large 16 ½ square, I thought, "Oh, oh! How is she going to keep that ruler on top of such a little area of fabric without both of them sliding around?" By only moving the large square ruler over bit, it kept that sliver of fabric in place for cutting. Woo-Hoo! No having to walk around the table or flip the fabric/mat around; it was SO efficient, accurate, and safe.
And I can certainly see the advantage of using all those pins at the center, corners and on the diagonal lines to keep a large piece of fabric from becoming unwieldy as you sew those diagonal seams on the bias. When you labeled those stacks of HSTs according to their colors and then assembled them in the four sections, it set my mind a little more at ease in how I would assemble the layout - especially nice for those of us without a large design wall. Thanks also to Quilting Treasures and Cyndi Hershey for the pattern that I can print out to keep in my binder of quilt layouts I want to make. Yes, Laura, you summed it up perfectly: "You can't go wrong with this quilt".
I am a new quilter; never have I made a quilt. This explanation is great!!!

That ruler trick at 2:47 and 3:45 is amazing! This is a great technique, all of the outside edges of the triangles are not on the bias.

If I don't have a 161/2 ruler, i can use te mat?, very nice tutorial, very well explained , thank you
Loved making this quilt. Now hangs on my friend bedroom wall. I said why the wall and not the bed? She did not want to dirty it hahaha
Thanks
This was amazing, thank you for sharing.
Oh Laura! This is yummy!!
Love this one!!! Thank you!
muito muito lindo, obrigadp por seu video
Hi Laura. What do you think that adding a smaller 'stop' border before the wider border? I love the way you made yours and how you explain how to pop certain colors. I wonder if the stop border would visually take that pop away? I have put the quilt top together and am pondering the borders now! Thanks!
Beautiful! 😍😍😍
nice thank you for the tips and tricks :-) it helps so much i am a newbie :-) and having a blast!!!
I love it
Lara perfeito , im dont no englis ,pardon, love you vídeo , bravo
Small correction Laura (sorry). I just checked out the link with the pattern. I believe the pattern says "From each set of the fat quarters cut (4) 7 7/8" squares"; not 4 7/8" squares as you stated at 1:05. Of course one could cut their squares that small (4 7/8"), but one would be making a lot more blocks. AND I know that your video instructions make it even easier and quicker to cut (1)16 ½" square from each fat quarter - to use the 8 at a time method which is exactly the way I want to make this quilt. Whether it's your video's instructions or the pattern's, either way the sewist will come up with 56 HST blocks unfinished at 7 ½" and finished at 7" each. LOVE that fabric!!
thanks:)
You are so awesome!
I need to figure out how to do this with a layer cake. The fabric I want to use no longer has a fat quarter bundle available.
Love it
I love your hair. My sister keeps trying to get me to color my hair but I'm letting it grow out white. I think it's beautiful.
thanks:)
