This is by far one of the best videos I've seen that shows the versatility of HST's. Thank you for your time and efforts!
Oh wow…thanks so much! I really appreciate that. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for this video. I inherited a full basket of HST with at least 4 each of various fabric and backgrounds, I have been stumped what to do with them, since background fabrics (light side) are all different. I saw at last 2 or 3 layouts that would work with what I have. I am so excited- I have had these for 15 years since my mother passed away and now I can use them and think of her while I am sewing them together & I will also think of you.
Awesome. I hope you have fun! Thanks for watching!
Honestly, This is one of the best quilting videos for beginners. Brilliant that you had the idea to show how many different designs you can do with HST in this manner. Well done and thank you!!
Many thanks. That’s so kind of you to say!
I love seeing all the different layouts. Thank you. 😊
Thank you, Claudia, what fun and inspiring to watch!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for all your inspiration. I was a little overwhelmed with trying to find something, but now I have a "few" ideas. Thanks so much .
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and hope you give one of them a try.
I am blown away by this! Thank you so much for taking the time to show us all these different variations ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! I’m getting ready to do a freebie quilt pattern using a layout, but not sure which one yet. 😄
Also loved the Twinkling Star - will try it in a doll quilt next!
I recently learned another way to create half-square triangles that eliminates marking: place 2 squares together, sew 1/4" seam all around the layered block edges - then press - then rotary cut on both diagonals. Open & press. Then square up.
That sounds like an interesting method. Thanks.
Be careful with those as all the sides will be bias edges. I saw a way to make 8 at once, with straight grains. People are so clever, I never stop learning.
Omg yes this is way easier!
WOW! This was awesome! I had no idea you could make SO MANY different patterns🥰
Holy Cow! This has given me many New ideas! Thank You!

Thank you for all the various design layouts for HSTs. I liked each one better than the previous … hard to choose a favorite. Bonus was the fact that you used the colors of our college - South Dakota State University. Now I’m getting ideas for making a couple stadium blankets for when we attend those outdoor sporting events. Go Big, Go Blue, Go Jacks! (SD State Jackrabbits)
Thanks for watching! It’s definitely hard to pick a favorite.
Let me add another "WOW"! to your comments. That was really fun to watch, but there's no way to miss how much work was involved in creating this video. My head was literally spinning by the end. I recently tried to make a wall hanging using Moda's version of the "Carpenter's Star". Making it row by row with one finger on the diagram and little pencil numbers all over the place, I still got it WRONG and to this day I can't figure out why. My hat's off to you on getting the majority of these layouts right! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
You'll have to pause it, take a picture. Go by that. I have vertigo and this doesn't help. Lol. Beautiful ways.
Thank you for sharing I love the possibilities
Thank you for sharing! Such a versatile block
Excellent study of the hst block. Great guitar music. The process of creativity can expand and grow in amazing patterns. Thanks.
I love the versatility of HST blocks! Thanks so much for sharing these designs. Time to play!
Thanks for watching! I love them too. In fact I have a video coming up soon for a full size HST quilt pattern so stay tuned. 🤗
WOW!!! That was amazing! I had no idea that many shapes could be made out of HST.
OMG so many layouts/patterns! How in the world do you remember them all? It's amazing just how many stunning designs can be made with such a simple little square.
Oh thank you!
Thank you so very much for all the layouts! Time to get busy making these half-square triangles and have some fun!

Diagonals surrounding a fantasy horse, wish I could paste a picture here!
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 thank you for this detailed video. I've watched many people make so many beautiful designs. But I just couldn't figure how to put them into those designs, but you show it so quickly. This video is a gem. I have fallen in love with quilting, although never made one myself yet😁 as my machine packed up. Awaiting the right time and I'm sure I'll be a pro by then😂🤯. God bless
That is very kind of you to say. Thank you so much.

I love it, and am going to try it for my Grand kids.
This is fabulous! Thank you so much for compiling and sharing this. Now how will I ever decide which pattern to use? Guess I'll have to start one at a time!
I'm so glad you like this video. I think everyone has a different favorite, but whenever I watch this, I change my mind. Have fun making your quilt and thanks for stopping by.
luv HST...
WOW!!!!!!....... Such an amazing video. It must have taken you forever to do that video.
I was fun to make but it's a good thing I could speed up the sections. Thanks for watching.
Claudia great video. I think that the math is you start with squares 7/8" (not 1/2") larger when cut on a diagonal. Use 1" if you wish to have more generous wiggle room to cut down. I use Lee Heinrich's PDF for many sizes of HST's. With prescribed rectangles cut, just a few seams and easy trimming with your ruler and rotary cutter. I know that there are triangle paper rolls, but I'm cheap, and like that I can select the size I need and print at will. Also, there are also 8 at a time HST's that are effective and 4 at a time. I would stay away from 4 at a time as the outside edges are bias.
Good tips. Thanks for watching.
You are genius
Thanks.
Wow, you really amaze me, to brilliant. 🥰
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that you watched.
Wow!
Thanks!
I have 56 hst ready-to go now to pick a design
Have fun and thanks for watching!
WOW
Thank you!
You should do a book of layouts ❤
Thanks!
Awesome. I have some half square triangles made but it's mixed colors, not all same color background. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with them.
Sounds great! Half square triangles make beautiful scrappy quilts too! Have fun and thanks for watching!
Love all the designs! I made one similar to the swirl design and and bullseye design but have not come up with a quilting design to do with it. Any suggestions for doing a lap quilt using a walking foot on a home machine?
Thanks for watching. I do lap quilts on my regular machine. I go nice and slow. Not sure what kind of design I would do with a bullseye.
Wow
Thanks!
Thanks for the response. I think the key will be to take my time and go slow.
You can do it!
I would like to print out all 27 for reference.
Glad you liked the video. In the description there are links to the 2 articles I wrote and they include photos of each layout.
Can some of your layouts work with one solid and one print? Or is it best to stick with two solids in contrasting colors? I really love your ideas I see hst's in a different light now.
Yes you can! It's completely up to the maker on the fabrics you use. I used strong contrast to stand out in the video. I made a grey and pink half square triangle quilt and all of the pinks were various fabrics and patterns. If you check out this article www.createwithclaudia.com/2019/04/half-square-triangle-tutorial/ you can see what it looks like. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing this video , you have shown me so many new layouts !! I can not wait to try them all. Do you have a book Available in the UK ?? If you do I would buy it in a flash. xx
Oh thank you so much!!! I do not have any books (maybe one day!) Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching!
This would have to be the most informative video I've ever seen. Do you have a book out with all of those ways to place HST? If you don't, you should have and if you do, where can I buy it?
Oh I don't have a book. But I appreciate the suggestions. Thanks and thanks for watching.
So, do you starch them? Or steam them? What happens, if in doing so, they shrink?
I usually prewash my fabrics so when I use stem to press they don't really shrink. I don't normally use starch when I press. Thanks for watching!
