So I came here from the hisstank.com forum where this was linked in a post. Thanks to Hasbro I've been binge watching the original animated series during our lockdown (and even after), on repeat.
3:15 Using Duke's death/not death scene (where we saw they really put a lot of effort into animating Duke's dying moments) as a metaphor for the fading _A Real American Hero_ continuity was spot on.
4:51 I find myself wishing someone would redo the original opening sequence for _A Real American Hero_ with CGI graphics but the same music, and the animation here provides a good example (though in 2020 CGI has advanced by leaps and bounds and can make hyper-realistic characters).
With the lockdown giving me plenty of time to indulge in nostalgia (hence the binge-watching) I find myself wanting to buy the collected editions of the Larry Hama written and derived comics, as well as the IDW series; and the DVDs of _A Real American Hero_ and the 1987 movie.
Thanks for this video!
Hey, thank you for watching. I have more of these type of videos planned, but some copyright stuff has held me up. I am really anxious to get back to Joe history and topic videos.
Not bad! You've evidently taken inspiration from Transformers: The Basics, but that's nothing to be ashamed of - it's a great show.
In future, you might want to consider some background music (and you stumble over your words a couple of times - might need another take...), but on the whole it was a good explanation of the many GI Joe universes.
Thank you for the feedback. It is definitely a learning process. I appreciate hearing comments that give ideas on improvement. :)
2:51 I think some of the file cards follow the stories from the comics other file cards seem to be more accurate to the cartoon others actually follow neither the comic nor cartoon.
That’s a tough one. Larry wrote the file cards and the comics so the connection should be that all file cards should be connected to the comics. The cartoon used the file cards, to a certain extent, as a reference point. That may be where you see some connections and no connections.
MacDowin yes that’s the connection I noticed.
Nice work! My favorite comic line is the reboot from IDW, more preciselly, the arcs writen by Chuck Dixon and Mike Costa. It's a shame it ended with that silly IDW revolution (it sucks).
Here to get into revolution from the old idw run
They made a mess of it, didn't they? I just stick with the Larry Hama content...
Hi! What do you think about deadpool movie?
It’s pretty fun.
I don't believe the G.I.Joe and the Transformers mini-series is cannon to the marvel G.I.Joe comics rather I think it's connected to the Transformers comics.
I found somewhere that it is a bridge between the two series and is part of both Transformers and G.I. Joe. If I remember correctly, story points are referenced back when Transformers Generation 2 enter the primary G.I. Joe comic later in the series.
MacDowin still that g.i.joe and the transformers mini series was more duller than butter. I also hate issues 1-55 of the marvel transformers comics. Issues 56-80 are surprisingly great though I strongly prefer the sunbow transformers cartoon. G.I.Joe I highly recommend the G.I.Joe comics and cartoon.
Well the mini-series was written by someone else. Perhaps that is you are noticing a difference in style. I am a big cartoon guy also. Never found the comic book until issue 121 in a grocery store. My mouth dropped to the floor when I discovered it. Up until that point I had only the cartoon as a media influence.
