He died a year ago next month. As a kid in high school, I was driving down Carson Street in Carson City, Nevada 1976 and I saw a guy walking down the street in front of The Ormsby House hotel/casino. He caught my eye because it was a very hot day and this guy had on black leather from head to toe. I couldn't believe it and so I looked with amazement to see who it was and it was Huge O'Brian. I had heard rumors that the cast of "The Shootist" was in town to film the movie, but I hadn't given it much thought until there he was just walking down the street.

I met him at a party maybe 20 years ago and he looked exactly the same as he did on Wyatt Earp. Well maybe not exactly but he looked good. He would also come to the Wyatt Earp Days in Colton California, where the Earp family settled, and he lead the parade along with my step dad, Gene Evans, a Colton native who had the TV show My Friend Flicka, about the same time as the wider series. It was an emotional treat to meet him.
It's great to see Hugh again. He has done great good for young students all over the globe and especially here in the U.S. with his foundation. Hugh Charles Krampe (Hugh O'Brian) has always had a great sense of humor and its great to see he has kept it all these years and in his new book.
+Allen Morgan , please take note his name is spelled O'Brian not O'Brien. O'Brian's take great pride that they are the "an" spelling. Just like my spelling. Heck, maybe I'm related.
You know that wasn't his birth name. It was a misspelling of his stage name, a family name he took when he decided Krampe could easily be misspelled and was.
I met the great man many years ago. He had a great impact on my brother's life and mine. His Youth Foundation will continue to have such an impact in his name into the future.

HOBY (The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program) is an International program that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of our youth. And a program that I am proud to be a part of.
I love all these comments standing up for this marvelous man. Some people just don’t understand the concept of reverence. Reverence for what someone accomplished in their life, reverence for the beauty they embodied in their younger years, no matter that in their ancient days those great looks are no longer evident. I can say without doubt that if you were sitting up close talking to this man you would see something wonderful in his eyes. End of sermon.
Interestingly, he didn't get married until age 81, to a woman he had been dating for 18 years. She was 27 years younger. They were married at Forest Lawn Cemetery by televangelist Rev. Robert Schuller, founder of the Crystal Cathedral. It was his first and only marriage.
I watched this man in all his western parts. Speaking of his looks....oh for heaven sakes....he’s older than the hills and he can look anyway he wants. BUT the length of his hair and beard could have been trimmed and you can’t argue that with me. That part has nothing to do with his physical condition. He’s a grand ole man. So glad he wrote the book. I met his brother, sister-in-law and their children (at the time) I believe maybe in the late 50’s. I believe I was preteen and I’m 73 now. His real last was Krampy NOT O’Brian. Met Hugh’s brother and family camping while with my Mom, Dad, Brother and Sister. His sister in law taught us how to make bowls out of pine needles.....thought that was cool. Can’t do it now though.
My Grandmother Ruth McPherson was almost 93 when she passed away. My mother sobbed in my arms, devastated! She had a hard life, mother and daughter both! They spoiled the dickens out of me but they raised me to be a believer. Grandma taught me about Jesus when I spent the summer with her at age six!
Spencer Tracy was so wonderful but so was Hugh O’Brian, he was so handsome. It’s hard to see you hero’s from your childhood so aged. I know it happens to all of us. You just don’t think of it happening to them.

That's interesting, I didn't know they filmed the Shootist there , did you see John Wayne too?
Ken Johnson oh, yeah, I loved him in that movie! imagine him being a jerk, thats acting. still as handsome as ever... looks and acts wonderfully at 90 too!
oh, thank you for sharing
Yes, Ken! A Marine, can handle the heat! They went through a lot worst; in boot camp! Good story! ⭐
I love the Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp and it figures that he was a Marine! What a great show and American!! Thanks for sharing....
oh, I still watch him mostly every day! he's doing so well at 90. and he really still looks like himself, just crusty. he's earned it. love you hugh. and i liked you in the shootist! thanks for the memories
R.I.P
We all get old,i loved the series it was a special time alas never to be seen again,Satire rules until it bites them in the rear.
Once a marine always a marine. I know my husband serve 21yrs. I never knew mr. O'Brien served in the corp.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE COWBOY
Looks and sounds great, full head of hair, I only hope at 90 I am in as good a nick as him.............
mk floyd i concur, you can still see the young hugh!
RIP sir thanks for service to bad he died a year later at 91 at home of old age
I met him at a party maybe 20 years ago and he looked exactly the same as he did on Wyatt Earp. Well maybe not exactly but he looked good. He would also come to the Wyatt Earp Days in Colton California, where the Earp family settled, and he lead the parade along with my step dad, Gene Evans, a Colton native who had the TV show My Friend Flicka, about the same time as the wider series. It was an emotional treat to meet him.
Gene Evans of Sam Fuller fame? Cool.
Wow -- most celebs don't live past 60. HE'S BLESSED !
+Susan O'Brian Thank you. I corrected it. Sorry.
You know that wasn't his birth name. It was a misspelling of his stage name, a family name he took when he decided Krampe could easily be misspelled and was.
I met the great man many years ago. He had a great impact on my brother's life and mine. His Youth Foundation will continue to have such an impact in his name into the future.
what is really cool is that, observing his attire, he is most proud of his service in the marines#
HE WAS A MARINE,EVERYTHING AFTER THAT WAS CAKE,GOD REST YOUR SOUL HUGH
He is 90 years old and people are complaining about what he looks like! There is a lot of dumb about.
Indeed. And a complete lack of respect. The man had a wonderful life acting, and deserves all the respect we can show him. Young kids commenting here have no idea what getting older even means--they think because THEY are young, everybody should be. If only life worked that way.
May he rest in peace thanks for sharing your talent with us
Very good actor.
... or What's Left of Him ? We all should do so well at 90
Looks like that was the title of his book.
hey, he still has all of his hair and he's Alive and Kicking!!! Glad to see one of my favorite old time television characters. Some have already gone on....

Thank you Hugh O'Brian from this Wisconsin Ambassador HOBY WLC '92 attendee. At 16, learning the virtue of the "The Freedom to Choose" in life is priceless. Godspeed.
Oklahoma West 1987!
ambassador from Pennsylvania in 1969. It was one of the great experiences of my life. His acting career was stupendous but only the smallest fraction of what he accomplished afterwards with HOBY
Hugh was really good on the Wyatt Earp show. I dont know whether he had much acting in his background -- but he did an excellent job.
Thanks Hugh RIP
why do heros have to get old and die r.i.p wyatt earp
Robert=That's the most appropriate and respectful comments made on this this posting. Articulate.
Yet, some heroes die young. It’s called life.
Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp, brave, courageous and bold
long live his fame, long live his story and long may his story be told
Isn’t that the truthRobert!It’s really sad .
@@trooperbias737Thank You very much
@@terrenceappleby9315sometimes life sucks.
When I was 13 I had the biggest crush on him. LOL I am not disappointed in his looks. I'm 73 and I don't look anything like I did when I was young. That's just the way life is.
Wow, his mind is so sharp. Good for him!
Remember Wyatt Earp 👍❤️🌻🎭
When thinking of Wyatt Earp it's always Hugh O'brian, the sharp wonderful portrayal that comes to mind.
Wonderful man!
RIP Hugh O'Brian 😇
God bless Hugh Obrien, and did not know he was a Marine. He seems like a sweet guy and was so handsome in his prime like James Garner. We all get old and have health issues, and like his personality .
Hugh was one of the many men who made damn sure that our best fight over here... was the one that never happened! -Former U.S. Paratrooper Sgt. William ''Rock'' Gilpin 82nd Abn. 1/504 '71---'74
He was probably the best dress man in show business.
Hugh is a Great man with an Amazing Legacy. He has earned and deserves our respect. For his Military service, and Acting Career, But Most importantly Hugh Founded HOBY. HOBY (The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program) is an International program that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of our youth. And a program that I am proud to be a part of.
Steve Polhill omg, that is wonderful! so many ppl in that business lost the desire to give back. or they do it for publicity...
also, tjank you gor your service#
Steve Polhill - I met Hugh in Denver at Hoby International 1987. I remember my HOBY experience fondly. Great opportunities for youth!
RIP
He was a great one...Rest his soul...GREAT upload ! Subscribed..
A man, much to admire.
End of sermon.
gets our respect...all of us.
90 years old hes doing great
Interestingly, he didn't get married until age 81, to a woman he had been dating for 18 years. She was 27 years younger. They were married at Forest Lawn Cemetery by televangelist Rev. Robert Schuller, founder of the Crystal Cathedral. It was his first and only marriage.
I can still see him in there.
My dad had the pleasure of interviewing him once, a long time ago. I just remember my dad saying how impressed he was with Mr. O'Brian.
Hugh O'Brian came to visit us grunts at the DMZ in Viet-Nam in 1967. He was a nice man & answered many of our questions concerning his career.
And in life Tracey wasn't half the man or mentor Hugh was.
He looks healthier than Hillary when she ran for president.
I admire him at his age and for all he’s done in his life. Semiper Fi
I met him Hugh O'Brien on a Pan Am flight leaving Hawaii back in 1982 , just a quick hello and a handshake . He still looks cool under all that camo , lol !
what father time does to people! Beautiful man in his time and its ALL come to THIS. May he R.I.P.!
