Justice for Jaya. Also, I love the Phyrexians so much. They're some of the most genuinely terrifying villains I've ever seen. The Eldrazi might turn you to dust or a tentacled monster or whatever but when Elesh Norn's lot get their hands on you you're just...gone. Mutilated and twisted until all that's left is a walking, talking mockery. I know the Phyrexian storyline has been going on for like two decades but I hope it goes on a fair bit further. Nicol Bolas had nothing on these guys.
Three decades. Phyrexians were the original hidden-villain when Magic first came out in the 90's. But they've evolved over time. They used to be more terminator-robot-army-and-gorehouse-screaming-cyborg monsters, under Yawgmoth. The whole 'soul eating infectious nanomachine curse transformation' thing is relatively new. To me at least.
@@mitchhaelann9215 Thanks, I've been interested in looking into Phyrexian history but 30 years of content is difficult to get caught up on. @@Toffeehammer I can give you the short version of their history. SPOILERS AHEAD Seriously, stop looking, Spoilers. Alright, you asked for it. So it all starts with the Thran. A mighty empire of sorcerors and artificers on ancient Dominaria. They developed the ability to MANUFACTURE new planes, condensing space and time inside Powerstone artifacts that they used as batteries in all their magical-technology. Half the alternate planes you could visit in early MTG lore? Were inside power stones. They didn't know magic had colors. All mana was colorless to them. And they used it in everything. Magical jewelry with cosmetic illusions, flying cars, everything. But too much mana isn't healthy, and a plague started to creep through their society. They kept trying to cure it with their normal methods, which made it worse. A Planeswalker revealed herself to their greatest artificer, who had a latent Planeswalker Spark himself, and offered to help them find a cure. But the Thran also turned to a renegade and semi-heretical physician who studied non-magical healing, and magics from the 'barbarian peoples' outside the empire, and who came to understand that mana comes in different colors. That physician was Yawgmoth. Remember that name. He figured out the real cause of the plague, and how to manipulate it. The planeswalker opened up one of their power stones and showed them both the nine-layered plane inside. She said they could use it for resources and to study to so they could find a cure. Long story short, he murdered the planeswalker slowly, dissecting her and her soul until he isolated her Spark. He could replicate its EFFECTS but could never take it for his own. But he could seize control of the plane, which he did. He told the thran he could keep them safe from the plague if they isolate there, and millions followed him, into slavery. Into (old) Phyrexia The artificer bonded the portal, in the Caves of Coilos, to Phyrexia to a power stone, locking his soul to it, then split it in half, so it could never re-open so long as they stone was split in two. That's important. The thran empire collapsed, most of its machines fell apart except for a few that their slaves maintained, and the 'savage tribes' outside the empire forgot about them outside myths and traditions of not using artifacts or machines. The two important ones were the massive facility thet they used to produce powerstones, still crewed by smarter-than-average-but-not-by-much goblins, and Viashino lizard people, and the Null Moon, a small moon-sized White Mana Battery that soaked up and charged itself automatically with white mana. For thousands of years. A few thousand years passed. Inside Phyrexia, Yawgmoth experimented with selective breeding (every non-artifact Phyrexian monster before the Mirrodin block was actually derived from human genetics), mutations from excessive mana exposure (mostly black mana), and cybernetics. Eventually, two idiot brothers found the Caves of Coilos while studying ancient artifacts and trying to become engineers in their own rights. Urza and Mishra. They found those two stones, fought over them, escalated into a war that nearly destroyed Dominaria. Urza won, took the Mightstone and Weakstone, and lodged both of them inside his own skull, taking their power as his own and getting semi-possessed by that ancient artificer who whispered into his subconscious. And gave him access to his Planeswalker Spark. Urza did a lot of stuff, made some friend, made twice as many enemies, and accidentally opened a small portal to Phyrexia. The old phyrexians decided to start their triumphant return and conquest, but quietly. They began a generations-long infiltration program with sleeper agents and spies. Urza began a generations-long armament program, creating The Legacy (a collection of powerful artifacts that, when used together, would form a doomsday weapon like no other), but he also created bio-engineered armies, clockwork and golem armies, war machines, colleges of advanced magics to help him produce more and more powerful ages and weapons, and a secret breeding program to try to mass-produce perfect commanders and leaders for the coming war. He also created a perfect guide and index, to train and teach the Perfect Leader how to use the Legacy Weapon. An intelligent, sapient golem of solid silver. That's important. So eventually the war comes, Urza personally leads a collection of five Planeswalkers in a strike into Phyrexia itself, setting of plane-destroying bombs on each of its layers, thought they failed on one or two, and Yawgmoth destroyed most of the 'walkers before seizing mental control of Urza and Gerrard, the Perfect Commander. The assembled armies stalemated the Phyrexians mostly, until the Silver Golem, named Karn, realized he was the missing piece of the Legacy weapon, and turned himself into the targeting computer, the Weatherlight airship into the barrel, and the Null Moon (mega-mana-battery moon) into the ammo supply. He dumped nearly-infinite white mana into a portal right into Yawgmoth's black-mana-soaked-heart, killing him. The power overload merged Karn with the rest of the legacy weapons and imbued him with an artificial planeswalker spark, after which he left for parts and planes unknown to mope about breaking his vows of pacifism. With Yawgmoth dead his army fell apart. Survivors retreated to the smoking ruins of Phyrexia, or scattered across dominaria. Karn eventually built his own plane called Mirrodin, inside the Mirrarri artifact. He was trying to create a paradise and a perfect world. Didn't work out well. The descendants of Phyrexia's more stable abominations and the remaining ageless survivors (who knew how to easily build dimensional portals) invaded Mirrodin, and used the resources there to upgrade themselves. Cybernetics turned to liquid metal, bio-enhancement grafts turned to magi-nanotech, eugenics programs started to ramp up, and they developed Mycosynth, then the Black Oil. They took the creation of the being that killed their god and corrupted it into a new home, a New Phyrexia. They aggressively expanded, accelerating their horrific improvement-at-all-costs, forced-evolution policies, until we got the Compleation and Cenobite-knock-off body-horror we see today. And that's the short version of the History of Phyrexia.
@@mitchhaelann9215 Huh. Thanks for taking the time to type that out. I assumed the Glistening Oil had been a thing from the start but I guess it's more recent? Omg when Ajani cast the Lightning Helix there, remembering what it represents for him now meaning something entirely different, just broke my heart ;-;
For those that don't know, Lightning Helix is a red and white spell in Magic. However, the red identity is something Ajani made away with because he realized that rage cannot bring about peace, and formerly, the Helix was a tool of vengeance born out of sorrow for the death of his brother. But now it is a weapon not of vengeance, but of destruction, bringing about the same foul murder that awoke his spark in the first place.
I feel you That was the first red spell he casted in his life back in shards of alara Violence is not the answer, violence followed by fitting vengeance is!
I'm really interested to see the story play out in the cards. The brothers' war was the first part of the MTG lore I really started to look into. It was the first introduction to Phyrexia and a very interesting premise, two master artificers fighting a war with their mechanical creations while an evil corruption seeps into the world through a gate they unintentionally opened. The war only ended with a nuclear bomb being set off, plunging the world into darkness.
"Running, dodging, hiding, it's what you do best!" I wish the writers would sit in a room together and discuss what exactly Teferi is proficient at, because he basically single handedly destroyed entire armies during the War of the Spark.
Fun fact: Tefari avatar in game looks just like me, lol. And I've been a blue control main since 1994. He even kinda looks like me in this trailer. I dig it and obviously love Tefari, very excited to see what they've done with the Brothers this time around since the early days of Magic.

But changing the past affects everything like the cataclysm caused by Urza and the Great Mending that nerfed all the Planeswalkers from Gods to mortals and many event from it will be simply undone... Meanwhile in the Meditation Realm currently a prison to the nerfed God Dragon. Nicol Bolas: Exactly as planned.
Thanks for this, I was going to say that this whole arc is going to lead to Nicol Bolas being let out again. Can you imagine a Compleated Nicol Bolas??
Remember Nicol Bolas was in front of Teferi while the Mending is happening and Teferi is saving the Multiverse from crashing against each other. Probably that time he input a spell to Teferi like a Multiversal level Genjutsu to make Teferi back on time in case Bolas failed on something in the Future able to bring him back. Like Madara did.
Great thing about the phyrexians is the fact they keep the personalities of those they convert, as shown in kamigawa. So most likely Ajani simply now believes that the best way to protect the innocent is to bring them into phyrexias fold
the sleeper agents crying oil... that's terrifying! And the back-and-forth dialogue between Ajani and Teferi... this isn't a cinematic trailer; this is a highlighted scene from some top-tier movie!
There's one coming out on Netflix in probably 1-2 years. It was announced back in June 2019 and will feature the Gatewatch is all we know currently about it. I do hope it gets received well so we get more content like this. A show which was set during the time of the Brother's War I think could be really neat.
I've said it before but; The 'Brothers war' really needs to be a mature animated Netflix show, like a cross between Arcane and Game of thrones. Starting with Urza & Mishra's mother dying and ending with Urza's death, while also showing the fall of the Thran (and the rise of Yawgmoth) as flashbacks. With each 'chapter' of Urza's life being a season. - ie: working for Tocasia, the Brothers war, the siege of Phyrexia, Tolarian academy, the Weatherlight, etc)
That would be awesome I think. There is actually an animated series for Netflix in the works but it's going to probably release in 1-2 years and all we know is the Gatewatch will be featured. Maybe if that's ever a success we can hope to see more such content.
100% it would be amazing. Jace has been center stage for a long time but with these new sets going back to Dominaria the timing could be perfect. MTG and WotC make it happen!! I love all the books there is so much to pull from. The Thran and Yawgmoth as flashbacks is the right way to do it.
it wont be enough, pretty soon magic will be nothing more then universes beyond, the brothers war is the final universes within set of this year that really matters and after that maybe some decent reprints when jumpstart hits in december
But we already have seen the brothers war. It is not a new thing but a repetition. It is like a remake of movie you already watch. Time travel is scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
I'm kinda on the opposite side of that fence. Don't get me wrong, I really like Ajani. But imagine a story arch where he & Tamiyo escape the final war with New Phyrexia, and begin to try and spread their individual ideologies of Phyresis to the multiverse. Hell, maybe Ajani can pull a similar trick he did with Bolas, and maybe give us our first Yawgmoth God Avatar card. That would be pretty sick.
The time traveller's the hero so you kinda know how this is gonna play out. Teferi will 'fix' it all but the history of the game will change just enough to create some even larger problem down the road as an unforeseen consequence. Personally, I kinda hope we get some replayed history of the game's earlier sets where everything's just a little bit off and we get to watch it all unravel.
@@TheHandicat I want to see Ajani healed but shunned. Cast aside because of his deeds. I only want him healed after he has down very foul things for Phyrexia. @@Nova-zk5gn Ajani already went through that arc back in Alara. He was temporarily boros aligned and did a lot of brutal things in the nams of vengeance.
For those that find issues with the canonicity of the trailer it could 1.Possibly take place while everyone is trying to get the Temporal Anchor to work as that took a few weeks or 2. Like with Eldraine it's more so meant to sum up both Dominaria United and Brothers War while making hype.
I like how mtg is slowly becoming the league of legends of media. Start with the still trailers, then the cinematic trailers, then the music videos, then finally a TV show.
I like the part where Ajani falls from height, same as Jaya falls to death, being killed by Ajani. As the mirror breaks, it left out full Jaya face for Teferi to remind back.
It's showing his age. It's important to remember that he's *ANCIENT* by the standards of most modern Planeswalkers, and remembers a time when Planeswalking worked differently.
Seeing Ajani as A semi-Psychotic Robo-lion trying to goad Teferi by throwing his failures in his face.Damn Teferi really gave him a good spray of water to the face and out the window but well cats always land on their feet. On a separate note, you can really see their colour alignments right off the bat. Ajani is projecting righteous persecution (White) for Teferi's failures and Teferi is using Blue's keen intellect to move around and dodge while formulating a plan, but Teferi is also partially white and tries to reason with his old friend. Seeing that reason was of the table he used his resolve to push him out but not kill him.Teferi now knows that he must do all in his power to end the threat of the Phyrexians so he will not have to see more of his friends perish.
I just finished watching the video and with "Brothers War" splashed on the screen I was for a moment confused because I thought the video was for the previous set, who's name I can't even recall. PERPETUAL HYPE!

I mean HOW MANY PEOPLE will watch this as a series?? PLZ raise your hand
I hope for it, also I don't want them to do saving all people who got killed or compleated, it destroys all anxiety, hopefully they will only destroy phyrexians
Sounds about right. After all, he above almost all others should know how dangerous this is ... and that (though I can't see it happening) there is a non-zero chance of it destroying all reality ... again. At the least he has to learn that the Sylex is not something that should even be considered as an option.
Yeah, it's another good trailer, and it makes me wonder about the potential for an actual Magic movie and/or series with good production levels...but it's pretty hard to get excited about anything Magic these days knowing that the fans are only going to be disrespected and ripped off yet again. With how poorly things are going, I will not be playing The Brothers' War, just like how I haven't played anything Magic for a while now.
Not to mention the woke communisitic hive mind ideals being shoved down the throats of the player base through the story and characters. Wizard$ all about that money. Before anyone attacks me, this is a card game made for kids. Social/political issues shouldn't be involved. Just another form of indoctrination.
The video is wonderful. The images and sound are of incredible quality. The voices are powerful. This really makes you want to discover the cards of this new edition. 😀
Assuming compleation is irreversible, then ill speculate. Oerhaps urabrask can play a part in flooding ajani with more red mana than white. Making ajani more like urabrask, freedom and let me do my thing kinda dude. Which is i think is d reason why urabrask is against norn
You literally rip off your limps and organs and replaces it with gears and oil. It is irreversible. Ajani, right now, is nothing but a zombie with a trapped soul.
Did they actually explain somewhere how and when Ajani got compleated? During the events of the latest Kamigawa compleating a planeswalker was a novelty for the Phyrexians and they only first managed it then with Tamiyo, so when exactly did they get to Ajani?
Off screen, it was meant to be a surprise in the story of Dominaria United...but WotC already revealed Ajani was compleated before they released the story because as usual they're incompetent
They simply could say that the completion of Tamiyo happened a few months back, off the top of my head I don't remember there being anything pointing to NEO and United happening back-to-back. A simple timeline "retcon" that wouldn't mess with the Jenga blocks that much. I'm saying this because the other comment kind of answered WHEN they could've got Ajani but didn't address how much of a novelty planeswalker completion is so i thought I'd do it.
They never explained it. This was done for the shock value which was kinda dumb. It wouldve been better if their was a sidr arc explaining how he got compleated. Would be more interesting if he willingly gave himself thinking it will help save everyone, kinda like arthas grabbing frostmourne.

Probably one of the best evil "species" in all of fiction. I love them so much too !
@@mitchhaelann9215 Thanks, I've been interested in looking into Phyrexian history but 30 years of content is difficult to get caught up on. @@Toffeehammer I can give you the short version of their history. SPOILERS AHEAD
Seriously, stop looking, Spoilers.
Into (old) Phyrexia
The artificer bonded the portal, in the Caves of Coilos, to Phyrexia to a power stone, locking his soul to it, then split it in half, so it could never re-open so long as they stone was split in two.
@@mitchhaelann9215 Huh. Thanks for taking the time to type that out. I assumed the Glistening Oil had been a thing from the start but I guess it's more recent? Seems like they just give somebody a spritz with that stuff and boom, loyal Phyrexian. When does the sylex nuke fit into all that though? For those that don't know, Lightning Helix is a red and white spell in Magic. However, the red identity is something Ajani made away with because he realized that rage cannot bring about peace, and formerly, the Helix was a tool of vengeance born out of sorrow for the death of his brother. But now it is a weapon not of vengeance, but of destruction, bringing about the same foul murder that awoke his spark in the first place.

Maybe if that's ever a success we can hope to see more such content.

it wont be enough, pretty soon magic will be nothing more then universes beyond, the brothers war is the final universes within set of this year that really matters and after that maybe some decent reprints when jumpstart hits in december
Just trying to stay optimistic, but that is sadly true
But we already have seen the brothers war. It is not a new thing but a repetition. It is like a remake of movie you already watch. Time travel is scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
I love Ajani I hope he can be fixed or redeemed
He just needs a couple doses of horse de-wormer and he'll be right as rain.

I like the part where Ajani falls from height, same as Jaya falls to death, being killed by Ajani. As the mirror breaks, it left out full Jaya face for Teferi to remind back.
It's incredible how realistic Teferis model looks. You can see every skin crease, every hair follicle and every minor blemish.
It's showing his age. It's important to remember that he's *ANCIENT* by the standards of most modern Planeswalkers, and remembers a time when Planeswalking worked differently.

I believe it was assumed that he was captured and completed during the events of Dominaria United when he went chasing after some sleeper agents.
I for one, welcome our new Phyrexian overlords
There's literally no downside!
@@archemyre7833 I would absolutely sell out the world in exchange for having my consciousness transplanted into a compleated Planeswalker body augmented with Phyrexian technology. If you can't beat them, join them, and I think you probably get points for enthusiasm
Lilliana: Oh headmaster of life and death, oh elder dragon of growth and decay, oh mighty Beledros Witherbloom. I seek your advice, for I need your immense wisdom. How can I make the death of a beloved friend undone?
Beledros: I am sorry. You better don't.
Teferi: I'm gonna mess with brother's war LUL
Now I want a Magic the Gathering movie!!!
Still can't get over how much it hurts seeing Ajani corrupted by Phyrexia.
He's serving a higher purpose now
Well that's the focus point of the trailer ,seeing how the phyrexians have twisted Ajani not Teferi going back to the past
@@theone9132 how dare you
@@a.artmaster8733 The Phyrexians have infiltrated the comments! Section! Nowhere is safe!
Cool, but where is the Netflix series you announced last year?
Nobody knows
let's go wizzard this is the quality this game deserve!
✍🏻🎉🎉⤴️ ⤴️ CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED AMONG MY SHORTLISTED WINNERS 🎁🎁
Phyrexia coming back
also obvious pun from ajani: "surrender to our purrfection" :3
I'm sure Teferi doesn't need a vehicle to time travel, but if he rode a DeLorean he'd be doing it in style.
Or he could use a Tardis, which comes next, in the BBC Doctor Who MTG set
Has there ever been an instance of "Reasoning with a phyrexian or one of their corrupted agents" because Teferi was really talking to Ajani like that was one of the solutions? Like if one of my allies comes to me with the spooky voice manhandling one of my other unconscious allies I'm entering a defensive stance not trying the "Remember who you are" negotiation maneuver.
Being turned is perhaps in part due to loss of self control, if so, you can snap out of it. Teferi was making sure he can’t liberate him before taking out a former friend. When Ajani mentions Zalafir being his fault, it means he’s lost as Ajani well knows the idea was to protect it from Doom
Both Xantcha and Belbe were able to be reasoned with and work against Phyrexia to some extent (for different reasons)
Belbe is the most famous compleated that also went agaisnt the phyrexians. Ajani, by today's standards is looking just like her and even Tezzerett saw that too in the lore.
Dope cinematic, but the voice actor for Teferi on Arena suits him much better.
"running, dodging, hiding. It's what you do best, but where has that gotten you?"

HOW DO WE HAVE TRAILERS LIKE THIS BUT NOT A SHOW?! FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING
When are you guys going to make a movie/show! This is incredible!!!
