I live not far from Ontario California where they hold the "Road to California " quilt show every January. It is a HUGH quilt show, and like yours, it has lots and lots of vendors. This year it was special because I bought a long arm quilting machine there and I am almost done quilting a quilt with it for the first time. Not perfect, and maybe not too good, but DANG!, was it fun! Always wanted to visit Scotland and enjoyed the pics. Thanks 😊
Thanks for sharing your photos AND including the maker’s names! I even spotted the name of someone in our Quilters Guild Modern Group😃 It’s a shame that the display was a bit cramped though.
Truly brilliant display of such eclectic & diverse quilts 😍 Thank you for posting these pictures so that we can enjoy the quilting talent around the world 🌎
Very nice video! One of the best pictorials of quilts. The close up were grand, and the I appreciated being able to read the attribute cards. Thank you for taking us on a trip to the Glasgow quilt show with you. I hope the fudge is delicious!
I’m so impressed at how restrained and disciplined you were with your purchases! Well done!! I’ve been to Houston International Quilt Festival several times and being in a place with 800+ vendors is a test of endurance and discipline!! You did great!!
Good Morning Kristen, Thank you for sharing this experience in Scotland, I will be watching this again as I live to see the quilts. I hope you have a fun and wonderful week ahead. 🥰👍 Chris
Oh thank you so much for taking us with you! I couldn't make it for this Spring Show I was so sad not to be able to go and drool at the quilts and at the stands. I can never pass by Allison's Fabric Emporium and have been known to scroll her website late at night....and purchase. Well done for being so restrained! Another great video, thank you xg
Thanks, there were a lot of beautiful quilts, and I have to say I’m from Canada and went on a Trafalgar Tour of the British Isles and Scotland was my favourite, seeing the street pictures at the end brings back. Great memories. Again, thanks 👍❤️😊
Thank you ,,Loved looking at all the quilts and just seeing a different place in this big world, just beautiful ,, thank you sew much. May God Bless you and yours
I have participated in and helped at quilt shows with my guild. They are non-juried shows except for a viewers' choice and one other award. The Market place has only about four stalls; the rest is about the over 100 quilts or quilted objects. There is also a demo area. All this is still on hold since the pandemic. I really enjoyed this video and seeing what is being done by quilters elsewhere!
Glad you liked the videos. There were prizes in each category at this one it is just not juried to enter like QuiltCon for example where not everyone can show.
Amazed you came out of the show relatively unscathed of major purchases as those little stands are hard to resist! Good job! The quilts were stunning and I loved seeing them. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for letting me tag along with you lol 💖🤗 I slowed the speed down so I could read the quilters names. Some amazing pieces and this was just the modern quilters!
Looks like it was a lot of fun, such beautiful quilts and thank you so much for sharing 😊 But I think I was blinded when I first laid eyes on that pink carpet! Love that you bought fudge🎉
Hi that was a lovely video, I wish I’d know about this exhibition as my daughter would have liked to come as well. Glad you showed all these brilliant quilts. Amazing. Thank you, Sibylle.
I want first to tell you I found your channel when I was under the weather aka sick and in bed and I enjoyed watching your videos which made my down time better! I have been to Houston Market and Festival in 2017. What an experience. Quilting on staroids! We went to see an exhibit my friend curated on Canadian quilts for our 150 Anniversary of our country. I had a quilt in the exhibit. What an over the top dream come true it was. Then I have been to other regional and local shows. Each experience is so different. I have been to QuiltCanada only once when it was near to me but hope to make it back when it is in Toronto, Ontario again. Quilt Canada rotates through the country. And it is a big country land wise. Quilt Canada is our Canadian showcase exhibition of Quilting and holds classes and vendors with a beautiful juries show. My local Modern Quilt Guild is hosting a Modern Guild Showcase next May so that will be fun to volunteer at and see. I have to start to make some things to enter. Hopefully it will be successful and happen every 2 to 3 years. Thanks for showing your Craft and Quilt show. I love Scotland and have been twice. We stayed in Edinburgh and did some traveling too. Inverness was as far as we ventured. It is on our bucket list to return. Toronto use to hold a Creative Festival which I went to over 20 years. But Covid seems to have killed it off. It was mainly vendors and covered all kinds of crafts.
Aw glad I could keep you company when you weren’t feeling well! I am actually from Canada originally myself. I was born and raised in Toronto, went to university in Montreal and have spent a lot of time in Vancouver and Vancouver Island as my sister lives out there now. I’ve been in Edinburgh for over 20 years now though so it’s home now!
Sandy we went to Shipshewana to see the show and shop the stores on our way to Missouri Star. You would love to see the town and the festival. We came all the way from Canada. We live close to the border of Canada and the USA. We cross over at Buffalo. It was a small group of ladies I know that went. We had a very memorable time. Loved all the states we passed through.
Thanks for the reminder - I do get to Shipshewana at least 1x -2x a year. There's a beautiful quilt shop and I enjoy just looking at all the quilts they have on display - but ever looked into any quilt shows in Shipshewana - need to do that!
Hi there! How funny… I never realized you lived in Scotland! I love your scrap fabric techniques, and I’ve watched a lot of your videos. Always love a quilt show, thanks for taping it! It must be at least a partly juried exhibition. I saw a couple of ribbons, and a sign, saying “highly commended.”
Yes - I think I said that wrong. There are prizes but it’s not juried to enter. So for example you have to be selected to show at QuiltCon even before you are in the running for an award. Whereas this show anyone can enter and have their quilt shown and judged.
I have been to large and small quilt shows in the past. Since losing my best quilting friend 😢, they have lost their appeal. Thanks for sharing a show that I would never be able to attend. You did a great job and showed lots of shopping restraints.😊
Great video. I will be watching this video again. So insperational. When the creators i followed were all going to quiltcon i look for shows in my area. I'll be out of state both times. Always next year. Looking forward to you showing us one of your quilts in this show!
Thank you for taking the time to put this together and share with us, I am in the US and it is interesting to look at quilts from different countries. Thanks again,
I have been to several quilt shows. Mostly smaller ones hosted by quilt guilds. I did get to go to one in Tucson, Az, USA. I live in the state of Ohio, USA. I am working on putting together fabrics for a Log Cabin quilt to enter into a non juried show in September. Thank you for sharing!
Loved the video, thank you! I'm so amazed at the creativity of quilters. i love the contemporary quilts but marvel at the "The Golden Stone" by June Drennan @6:26. Subscribed. 😀
I loved all the quilts. Amazing quilting on them. Thank you for filming them. They are definitely something to aspire to. I really need to come to Scotland some day.
How inspiring. There was one in the middle of your montage, with very subtle and muted color tones and some various scenes. Then another one which looked like a photograph of a little girl sitting down near the water. These two quilts put an idea into my head about making a quilt about my childhood home, using a photo as the main pattern. I still make very elementary, not show-worthy quilts, but nonetheless, I think I might try this lofty goal someday.
I have never been to a quilt show, nor have I had the opportunity to participate in a quilting class or retreat. Thank you for sharing the amazing quilts. My favourite was by Sheena Norquay (@8:24). Stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Pat, that is something we have in common. I live off of the far western corner of Europe and my town is a dead zone where crafts are concerned. Tried hard to encourage others to knit or quilt but to no avail. I'm self-taught and think it would be nice now and then to have someone with whom I could discuss ideas.
@@ScrapFabricLove I was just in the mid of watching ur "fave quilt as u go method" ...years ago most of the time I used georgia bonesteele's method on larger squares, which required hand stitching as u mentioned. But, what was interesting on the close-ups u did at the S. quilt show was that some of the quilting stitches had another deco stitch on top of the first line of quilting stitching. again, thanks for the vids and nice to meet you.
Isn’t it great to go to a quilt show 👍😊 I went to the one in Harrogate which was probably a bit like the one you went to - lovely seeing all the quilts and different fabric, books and tool stands 🤩 Just imagine going to an American quilt show like the one in Atlanta 🤩🤩🤩 Thanks for sharing 👏👏🇬🇧
Much appreciate the time you took to show us these amazing designs. Interesting how machine manufacturer is listed. I wonder if we do that here in the States…never noticed. Scotland looks beautiful❣️
And i didn’t even notice that 😂 - I thought the machine brands were sponsoring the categories but I’ll have to go look at the photos again now you’ve said that!
Thanks for the video, I have only ever seen quilts at the county fair. They were primarily traditional pieces quilts done by amateurs but I enjoyed seeing them. Love the beautiful fabric you bought to make a bag.
Thanks for showing the quilt show.Yes I have been to some local quilt shows here in Ontario, but never on a national level. You could have entered your work !I must admit I like the shopping portion of these shows,LoL. My quilt guild will be having a show this May in neighbouring Gananoque ontario canada.
I wish I had been a quilter when I lived in Canada, I think there is much more going on there! Enjoy the show in May! Maybe I’ll enter something next year for this one 🤔
Loved seeing all those beautiful quilts! They were very impressive! I've only been to 2 quilt shows local to me. One was done by my quilters guild and the other was a bigger county type show. They were both really nice in their own ways. The county show looked a little like your Scottish show. The quilters guild show was much, much smaller and only featured quilts by guild members. Also, the guild did not do a competition, so no ribbons, etc.
Nice to have a variety of different ones near you that you can visit. I am hoping to attend the bigger U.K. show in England this summer so I guess I’ll see how different that is to the Scottish one.
Thank you for sharing the quilt show. So many talented people and inspiring quilts. I thought you were very restrained in your shopping. It probably was hard to contain yourself from buying more. Lol.
thanks, I love quilt shows. It is great to see what other people are doing. they were beautiful. we have a few shows around here, two juried and three not. except the people get to vote on their favorite one, which gets to be shown( it the person wants to.) entrance the following year. the winners in all categories are posted with picture on the guild's web page.
I think I made it confusing the way I said that in the video - there were awards for the quilts there was just no selection process to enter like there is in some of the big US shows. So any quilt that is entered gets shown.
Thanks for sharing this video. I enjoy going to shows since many shops from places too far to visit are represented and the variety of quilts on display are so inspiring. I always go with a group of friends and we all have a nice time. I live in Edmonton and I have 2 quilt shows to look forward to this year. One in May 2023 in Red Deer Alberta, and one in June in Edmonton.
Thank you for such a lovely view of the quilt show! There were some incredible works of art, all so unique and beautiful. I've been to one quilt show, the International Quilt Show in Houston, where we live. Love your purchases, especially the cork and solids. Enjoy sewing with them!♥️
@@ScrapFabricLove Yes, it is big, almost overwhelming! I love to see quilts made in other countries. It's interesting to see the similarities quilters share no matter where they live. Thanks again, what a fun day you had!
Thank you for sharing your trip with us, I loved seeing all the quilts. My favourite show was in Ally pally, London. Think it was the knit and stitch show. The one at the NEC is good but involves a lot of walking!
I sure did enjoy this....I thought you were very restrained in what you bought considering all the vendors. But sometimes out like that, it is so overwhelming it is almost easier to be restrained as to make a decision. I liked the cork. Hope the sharpener works for you.
Although our quilt show in Spokane is big, I've seen several of the same quilts displayed year after year. It could use a little infusion of Scottish art quilts!
I hope this show will grow to show more quilts. So many with tight tight tight stitching that overpowers the piecing. I liked the one with blue houses and a scrappy with pastels, and the pictorial of little girl and rock in a stream.
I was there on the first day and completely forgot to take photos of the quilters I admired so thank you for this! Comic-Con was on next door so odd things left in the coat check to be expected I guess. 😂 pPatchwork quilting isn’t a traditional craft here as it is the the states, so not as many people do it as a hobby. I was surprised at how many Competition quilts were there. The shopping is a big part of all type of shows here in the UK…
I live in Devon and I went to a quilt show at Newton Abbot racecourse last week sadly I didn’t get to see the quilts because they were upstairs in the next building and becauseI use a mobility scooter the lift was broken. Never mind I’m going to another one at the end of March.
Viewers can slow the quilt show by touching the ‘cog’ wheel button at the top of their screen (which is the settings) and reducing the playback speed (does make the music go funny though.) Great quilts. Love to know if the blade sharpener does the trick. Thanks
Thanks for showing us the quilts you saw. My daughter and I went to a regional quilt show 2 weeks ago in Virginia (USA). We saw lots of great quilts, met an AcuuQuilt educator we follow, and she bought long-arm supplies. I bought her a ruler since she long-armed 3 quilts for me last week. Unfortunately we had to pick up her girls at school so we didn't have enough time to see it all. Next year, we are going to have to plan ahead and stay longer. I think that shopping/commercial booths are usually the biggest part of a show because the booth fees are the income portion of the show. How else could you buy Fudge and Cork at the same place?
I’ve never been to a quilt show. I’ve only seen them displayed at the state fair. I loved the footage you shared, and very happy to see the non traditional ones. The Pebbles On The Shore brought tears to my eyes, it was so touching! So Kristen… WHY DIDN’T YOU ENTER A QUILT? Yours are as beautiful as many of these. Personally, I don’t compete in anything, I just hate being judged.
😂 thanks! I honestly just didn’t think of it. I wasn’t even going to attend because I didn’t fancy any of the workshops but changed my mind at the last minute. I’m considering maybe entering something in the bigger U.K. show in August (In Birmingham, England) as they just introduced a new ‘sustainable quilts’ category so might put my thinking cap on for that.
Oh yes, I hope you do enter one! It was fascinating seeing all the different styles. I’ve watched it twice, pausing & reading. I like “If Klimt Met Kahlo”, I like both artists’ work. I found it so inspiring. I really thought it was all just about commercially produced patterns, very strict & too many rules. The fact that there were so many “non traditional “ works just thrilled me! There is a huge show in Houston each year, it’s just a few hours away but I never even considered going. Now this has my interest piqued!
I probably took more photos of the non traditional ones because they interest me more but there did seem to be less traditional ones when you added up all the modern/art and contemporary category ones. The traditional section wasn’t that big.
Hello from across the water in Fife. As an eclectic creator I used to go to that show every year but then I stopped going probably around 10 years ago. For me the cost was not worth what was available. The cost of parking and tickets went up every year and the show got smaller. I refuse to give my money for it to be honest. I do wish there was more available. I am hoping to find a quilting group local to me, though I confess, working shifts does not make it easy to establish a routine of going to a group regularly lol T x
Guess it was good it was my first one so I had nothing to compare it to! I’m going to FOQ this year so once I see what that is like maybe feel the same about this one as you do!
@@ScrapFabricLove I hope you have a great time. I’ve heard it’s better than the Glasgow one but I’ve never been to be fair. I look forward to hearing about your experience T x

Yeah not sure I could cope! I might go into meltdown at a proper big American one 😂
Sewing machines are typically at any type of quilt show or crafts fair.

These were brand name placards hung on the wall under the description of each quilt. Not an actual machine.
Thanks for the video, I have only ever seen quilts at the county fair. They were primarily traditional pieces quilts done by amateurs but I enjoyed seeing them. Love the beautiful fabric you bought to make a bag.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Alison’s craft emporium fabulous great online service. Have made purchases for years.
Thank you for sharing with us. I love a good quilt show!👍🏼👏
Thank you for sharing the quilt show. So many talented people and inspiring quilts. I thought you were very restrained in your shopping. It probably was hard to contain yourself from buying more. Lol.
Thanks! I was happy I didn’t buy more - I have plenty already!
Thank you
Oh you were a good shopper. I’d have gone nuts!!
😂 thanks!
thanks, I love quilt shows.
Thank you so much for this. I was unable to attend.
Aw glad you could see some of it this way!
Fab! I’m from Toronto but I wasn’t into quilting when I lived there so of course I’ve never been to a Canadian show!
I watched your interview with Steven Bland and found out you studied in Aberystwyth, I did my grad school in Swansea! Great memories ❤️
It’s a small world!
I’ve never been to a quilt show. Hope to in the future though. Looks fun!
It was - I was on my own but I still had fun!
Thank you for such a lovely view of the quilt show! There were some incredible works of art, all so unique and beautiful. I've been to one quilt show, the International Quilt Show in Houston, where we live. Love your purchases, especially the cork and solids. Enjoy sewing with them!♥️
Lucky you! You love near the big one! Thanks for watching!
@@ScrapFabricLove Yes, it is big, almost overwhelming! I love to see quilts made in other countries. It's interesting to see the similarities quilters share no matter where they live. Thanks again, what a fun day you had!
I took my eldest daughter there on Saturday, this was her first show and my second one
Cool! I’m thinking of trying to go to FOQ In Birmingham this year but not sure yet!
Thank you for sharing your trip with us, I loved seeing all the quilts. My favourite show was in Ally pally, London. Think it was the knit and stitch show. The one at the NEC is good but involves a lot of walking!
I’m hoping to make it to FOQ this year - 🤞🏻!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful quilts! Always fun to see such talented work/ art ❤ bit of a shame it was more a market than a show
There were a lot of quilts they just weren’t displayed the way I expected I guess!
They all have a lot of vendors.
I sure did enjoy this....I thought you were very restrained in what you bought considering all the vendors. But sometimes out like that, it is so overwhelming it is almost easier to be restrained as to make a decision. I liked the cork. Hope the sharpener works for you.
Yes even though it was a relatively small show there was lots to buy - it was overwhelming in that way!
Although our quilt show in Spokane is big, I've seen several of the same quilts displayed year after year. It could use a little infusion of Scottish art quilts!
You could enter an art quilt next year!
I hope this show will grow to show more quilts. So many with tight tight tight stitching that overpowers the piecing. I liked the one with blue houses and a scrappy with pastels, and the pictorial of little girl and rock in a stream.
Yes hopefully it will get bigger! I like some of the tightly stitched ones myself - but it was nice to see a mix of different styles!
Me too! 😃
I think it is a big part of the shows in the states too probably. This was my first quilt show anywhere!
I live in Devon and I went to a quilt show at Newton Abbot racecourse last week sadly I didn’t get to see the quilts because they were upstairs in the next building and becauseI use a mobility scooter the lift was broken. Never mind I’m going to another one at the end of March.
Oh that sucks! Hope everything goes smoothly at the next one for you!
Viewers can slow the quilt show by touching the ‘cog’ wheel button at the top of their screen (which is the settings) and reducing the playback speed (does make the music go funny though.) Great quilts. Love to know if the blade sharpener does the trick. Thanks
Haven’t tried it yet but I’ll let you know!
Indeed! I totally get they have to make money. I just would have given the quilts a bit more breathing room that’s all!
@@ScrapFabricLove absolutely!
