Unveiling Tamralipta: India's Lost Ancient Port City (3,500+ Years Old!)
Lost City of India Revealed!
Have you ever heard of Tamralipta? This ancient metropolis, once a vital port city and trade center, rivaled the likes of Dwarka and Pataliputra in significance. Today, it lies forgotten, buried beneath layers of time. But fear not, history enthusiasts! This video dives deep into the captivating story of Tamralipta, shedding light on its rich history, legendary past, and archaeological wonders.
A City as Old as Legends
Our journey begins on the banks of the Rupnarayan River in West Bengal, where the remnants of Tamralipta slumber. Mentioned in the epic Mahabharata and the Bhavishya Purana, the city boasts a history potentially dating back to 5,000 BCE! While legends speak of Lord Krishna's connection to the city's name and King Bhima's role in its development, archaeological evidence like stone tools and pottery fragments solidify its ancient origins.
A Gateway to the East and Beyond
Tamralipta thrived during the Maurya and Gupta empires, flourishing as a prominent maritime trade center. Ships laden with copper, cotton, silk, and indigo sailed from its harbor, reaching distant shores like Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, and even the Mediterranean. The discovery of Roman amphorae and Greco-Roman gold coins stands as a testament to its extensive trade network.
Buddhism's Maritime Passage
Tamralipta played a pivotal role in the spread of Buddhism. Ashoka's son and daughter, Mahendra and Sanghamitra, embarked on their mission to Sri Lanka from this very port, carrying Buddhist scriptures and sacred Bodhi Tree seeds. Chinese travelers like Fa-Hien further documented Tamralipta's significance as a center of Buddhist learning.
The Ravages of Time and the British Raj
By the 7th century CE, Tamralipta's fortunes began to decline. The fall of the Gupta Empire disrupted trade routes, and the changing course of the Rupnarayan River hampered its accessibility. Centuries passed, and Tamralipta faded from memory.
Rediscovering a Lost City
In the late 19th century, Bengali scholar Gour Das Bysack stumbled upon an abandoned fort near Tamluk, igniting the quest to rediscover the lost city. Despite initial resistance from the British Archaeological Survey, further excavations in the 1950s and 1970s unearthed invaluable artifacts, rewriting India's history.
A Legacy That Endures
Today, although only ruins and artifacts remain, Tamralipta's story continues to captivate us. This video explores the mysteries surrounding this ancient city, leaving you to ponder the forgotten chapters of Indian history.

Even these important ports and trade centres aren’t taught to us.

Hope West Bengal can reclaim some of its past glory by kicking out communism.
bengal should save itself from demographic change.
What do you mean.
Muck sism is one mental disease - poison like novichok invented by the imperialist burgoise brits ( born out of geographical pivot theory) . Bengal had hurt brits most, so as parting gift bengal was broken and the society was injected with this poison.
Bengal is not communists from some thousands of years back.
It is known as vanga in ancient times. If you people don't know about Indian history learn. This channel is right.
Exactly from Bengal need to kick out illegal migrants from Bangladesh to gain its past glory
Even at Garhbeta of Paschim Medinipur , here is ' Gongoni '( India's Grand Canyon ) in the bank of river Silabati . Here is a story that Bhima killed here Bakasura . And here also people organize Bhima festival . Here is Sarbamangala mata's mandir , which also has significance in this .
@Aindrila Goswami. :"Bhima (one of the Pandavas) killed here Bakasura."
No.
Bakasura (that Demon had taken the form of a huge crane, a bird) was killed by Lord Shri Krishna, when Lord Shri Krishna was four (4) years of age, in Vrindavana (in present day U.P.).
Lord Shri Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

It was one of the great port cities of Kalinga Empire.❤
We need to bring back our lost history, there is so much effort even today to keep it hidden.
Great, love from tamil nadu

Thanks for making this video, despite being a Bengali I never knew about this.
SAHOTAJI WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL 👍❤️🙏🕉️🙏❤️👍
Tamralipti is the mouth of river Suvarnarekha, as the Chinese travellers have said again and again. The evidence from South East Asia of Kalinga sadhab also corroborates. Bahu bansha clearly mentions about Kalinga King Bijay Bahu who established the first kingdom in Sri Lanka. Please study this before making these claims. The claim of a Bengali about Tamralipti was rejected by his Asiatic Society and not government.
Totally Amazing , really enjoyed. Big thx from Honolulu 😊
There are many ancient temples on western coast of India MAHARASHTRA KOKAN but everyone tells they're pandwa kalin

"Tamra"lipta is indicative of copper "Tamra" deposits of the region.
We need (want) such videos, of facts (no religious gomayam) that can be taken as reference material. Keep it up!
Tamra`lipta (or Tamra`lipti) was the port for Magadha Empire (for Nanda & Maurya dynasties).
Those times, ships navigated keeping the coast in view. They never cut "across" either Bay of Bengal or Arabian Sea, that needed skills in "navigation" far superior for those times. Normally this fact is either not understood or ignored. For instance, Vasco da Gama, following the East coast of Africa, from Cape of Good Hope, had to hire the services of a seasoned Arab navigator to "cut across" Arabian Sea and landed at Kozhicode (Calicut).
Not by Arabian but by indian traders
Yes ,not by Arabian but Bhartiya....
Traders😊
Vasco dagama never took the help of an Arab navigator. He took the help of a Gujrati businessman who was on his regular business trip to foreign nations. Vasco was mesmerised with the huge size of a simple businessman from Gujarat..as Vasco was having the best ship of his country's fleet..which looked like miniatures infront if the Indian Business ship.
Its all documented and u can find this fact with very less research also.
🙏
@@BlackPanther-lx9we
One excerpt:"Sources differ over the identity of the pilot, calling him variously a Muslim, a Christian or a Gujarati Hindu. A traditional story describes the pilot as the famous Arab navigator Ibn Majid, but other contemporaneous accounts place Majid elsewhere and he could not have been near the vicinity at the time."
It needs to be proved. I came with the predominant opinion - mine.
Also the argument shouldn't be weighted on one side.
Sahota sahab..the narration requires more voice modulation and less of hand gestures which are very repetitive and overpowers the narration
More pictures of the ruins will do justice and inclusion of excavation efforts and people involved will add natural flair
These imaginary photographs hold no relevance to the subject. Take clue from Isreali presentations
Agreed..
However kudos to the team for atleast bringing up the lesser known facts
Everything we blame on the British. But, we ourselves like barbarians in the past have buried many of great civilisations. Even to day the Indian governments try hard to hide and bury India's own early civilisations' past. Please clean our own back first. 🙏🙏👍
@@samvelu8253 sir I accept your comment in positive way. British destroyed Indian culture ..you can see that in Goa and in Pondicherry. Goa inquisition stands proof . Even in srilanka Portugese and British did the same. Christian fanatics destroyed beautiful marvels of India.
@@j.viswanathanviswanathan7911 true..and people don’t want to accept the fact that Britishers Portuguese Dutch..did conversions..destroyed culture..
They think they came from Europe..but don’t want to think that they would have been white..they forget that they are Indian and converted..
Why would this government especially try to do that? It makes no sense. If there is proof, why would they hide it? Are you going to blame the British for that too?
Christian fanatics destroyed beautiful marvels of India.
British took 40 trillion dollars of current value from India.
The words sounds similar to tamil which has similar meaning to copper colour. N the king's name too has tamil or southern annotations n it could hv extensive mid trading point with the southern region ruled by the Chera, Chola and Pandyan kingdom's worldly sea trade route and hence the Roman coins and potteries found there as much similar to those excavated in South Indian archeological sites.
Further to this many monks established themselves in Kanchi region (kanchipuram) in TN before sailing off to Elangai (Lanka) as recorded in tamil scriptures & literatures before setting up their Sinhalese kingdom (a young prince n his entourage was exiled out of Bengal) then.
So there is a possible link to all regions of trading with south India as the distribution centres to other parts of India.
Cheers 🥂

Tell the story with a time sequence, not back and forth, for easy understanding.
Please read the book ' INDIA IN EGYPT' by Dr. Tillak Ranjan Bera. Dr.Bera is a Physican by profession. But he has written this book on history based on his research. And with solid evidence he has shown how the Egyptian civilization was actually an extension of Indian civilization and it was through Tamralipta that the Indian civilization reached Egypt via sea. You will get Dr. Bera's interview in the JAIPUR DIALOUGES you tube channel. We are too weak to be proud of our own civilization and we are yet to come out of the British hangover. We have been so much brain-washed by the West about Aryan invasion theory that we cannot believe that it is a total lie. This book when recognized by our own people will shatter the Aryan myth.

You are pronouncing "Jaataka tales" as "jatak tales"
Thanks for correcting
Theres nothing called "Jataka" ..its 'Jatak" only.
Britishers started this trend of pronouncing names ending with a consonant with a vowel.
Example- Ram is pronounced in English as Rama, and so is Ravan as Ravana..!!
These are all called "Apabhrangsha" in Sanskrit grammar.
Actual term is "Jatak" only. 🙏

The dating & timing of Indian history is not very starightforward, so better to stay away from any date related announcements:
1. The colonial era dating, driven by bible timelines and AIT theory ~ 1500 BCE
2. Indian classical scholars, based almost exclusively textual evidence like the start of Kaliyug ~ 3000 BCE
3. Astronomical evidence based dating ~ 6000 BCE for the Mbh
Tamralipta or Tamralipti (Pali: Tāmaliti) was an ancient port city and capital of Suhma Kingdom in ancient India, located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal.[1] The Tamluk town in present-day Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, is generally identified as the site of Tamralipti Wiki
Wonderful presentation but half-ass lazy information passing doesn't help! "Bhim-mela every February or March" does not help correctly...1) Celebrations/fesivals don't appear on this -OR- that month rather it's on certain fixed Tithi by shukla/Krishna paksha of a given month of a given year, 2) Gregorial calendar system was not even established in those days, 3) residents living around celebrating this may not have a clue with this English months, So add little more efforts to find excate Tithi & include that too for perfection of the information (we can at least learn that much from the Britishers : timeliness & accuracy)!
