I've been going to concerts for 50+ years. I have been fortunate to see Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, JJ Cale, Ronstadt, Emmylou, the best in folk and bluegrass and blues. But the Rankins show I saw in the mid-90s at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA was my favorite live concert. The whole place was up and dancing. Four encores. We were all shocked how good they were. Some acts just don't communicate on CD -- they need the live venue.
im a newfoundlander and i can appreciate folk music because we have the likes of great big sea, celtic connection, ennis sisters, ron hynes.. east coast is full of talent but boy the rankins just bring folklore to a new level. Its like pop culture! they all got some serious strong musical voices hitting the notes and the little twang they have is great, i REALLY love Raylenes part and her energy REST IN PEACE RAYLENE :(
This is the very best band to ever come out of Nova Scotia, Canada. They were very good musicians. There has been a couple of them pass on but they are fun to listen to. The Rankin Family.
Going home to NFLD in a week and The Rankin Family always accompanies us on the radio for the drive. Its hard not to sing along to such great music! We miss you Raylene and John Morris, rest easy xoxo
R.I.P Raylene🌹Thank you for the music, the inspiration and your beautiful voice. The physical being is but a vehicle for future memories and one's legacy. The memories are mine to enjoy. Your legacy will speak for itself. You were truly gifted, you blessed us all and you will be missed very much!!
My favorite dance song is that 1 greetings from southern Ontario my great grandfather was sir James Spearman winter of NFLD I'm half of this and ontarian
I just rediscovered this CD; it is Fantastic from start to finish! Wow, it took me ten years to give it another listen... The Rankins can rock but also can deliver the East Coast Celtic music just as well! Corrs - better look out!
The best band to come out of Nova Scotia. Ok, how about the best to come out of Canada. Ok, how about one of the best to come out of North America. Sadly John, Geraldine and Raylene passed. Terrific sound, great talent, wonderful musicians all.
The greatest entertainer's around the country and best song ever recorded especially the music 🎶🎵😻🎵😻🎵🎵🎶🎼🎶 videos from ur friends up in NBC Canada country areas of dog rib creek BC Canada country
Hahaha! I didn't notice before that they filmed this video in Halifax, NS. I kept seeing the piano flying by old buildings in downtown Halifax! It's one of THE BEST songs they've done...
I met Jimmy Rankin several times when I worked at Musicstop in Halifax about 17+ years ago, Bruce Jacobs, the bass player for the band worked there with me. Both great guys. I never really spent any time with the rest of the band members.
Nothing like the Rankins to get the blood flowing....and I'm from the dreaded Ontario! HA!...love the band...love the sound....we all mourned....hope to hear from the family again!...all the best from ontario!.....Rankins...RULE!....jan
in this video which one was Raylene? I am confused because I just learned yesterday of her passing. R.I.P. Raylene!!! Ok forget it I know now. So sad...
A fantastic song from a wonderful family band. However the continuity editor for the video should be sacked. The piano kept turning around. Mainly with the key board on the left as it went down the hill, but a few times including the end with it on the right. Although to be honest it took me quite a few views of the video before I saw it. I enjoyed it that much I keep watching it.
I've been rambling 'round Seems such a long, long time Somewhere in between I kinda lost my mind Now I'm movin' on I'm going, going gone Movin' on like the man said in the song I'm a rolling stone... I'm movin' on Cigarettes and coffee Won't keep a man alive I'm thinking of my true love In some smoky dive I'm movin' on Going, going gone Movin' like the man said in the song I'm a rolling ston... I'm movin' on Don't look over your shoulder The sun sets at your back By this time tomorrow We'll be smokin' on down the track Now I'm movin' on Going, going, gone Movin' on like the man said in the song I'm a rolling stone... Is that the guy on piano that died?
yes

I've been rambling 'round
Seems such a long, long time
Somewhere in between
I kinda lost my mind
Now I'm movin' on
I'm going, going gone
Movin' on like the man
said in the song
I'm a rolling stone... I'm movin' on
Wake up all alone
Deep in a hotel night
While away the hours
Till you finally see the light
Then I'm movin' on
I'm going, going gone
Movin' on like the man
said in the song
I'm a rolling stone... I'm movin' on
Cigarettes and coffee
Won't keep a man alive
I'm thinking of my true love
In some smoky dive
I'm movin' on
Going, going gone
Movin' like the man said in the song
I'm a rolling ston... I'm movin' on
Don't look over your shoulder
The sun sets at your back
By this time tomorrow
We'll be smokin' on down the track
Now I'm movin' on
Going, going, gone
Movin' on like the man
said in the song
I'm a rolling stone... I'm movin' on
I've been rambling 'round
For such a long, long time

Hey I love your music, where can i buy your CD's?
why is there a piano?

I would emigrate just for the music across the border. With the election coming I better get there fast in case Canada closes the border.
Oh yeah!
The guy looks like John Cusack
@hali1966 I think the angels in Heaven sound like the Rankin sisters.
Can anyone else's voice soar to a high note like Cookie's? I don't think so.
yeaa
put cape breton on the map
Ouch.
Never underestimate the strength of a fisherman.
They're from Cape Breton (not Nova Scotia)! Time for Cape Breton to become its own Province (and make Gaelic a protected language)!
yh, i can see the bridge and the harbor! i love halifax!
I could never figure out the significance of the piano.
GO JIMMY!!!
