It's about 18 inches long when fully packed up, that's exactly what I used it for but I split apart the reel and the rod to make it easier to pack, recently the end of the rod broke off but it's partly my fault because I jammed in into a bookbag on a flight
Bought one of those a while back. It's supposed to also come with a carry bag with handles that holds the pole and reel with extra room for tackle.
