- It's well known that Bali is the land of great waves, but also the land of great crowds. Trying to drive 20 km can take 3 hours in a car. Trying to surf Padang Padang can end with a mouth full of fiberglass. What do you think about this situation? Justified? Uncalled for? Lmk 🤙

Sad to see how bad surf travel is now. I'm glad I wad a teen in late 80's and early 90's. I got to travel all over and surf great waves with just a friend or two and some locals.. I stopped surfing 10 years ago because I got tired of paying money to travel and end up surfing with 50 people, many of which don't know how to surf or don't have the experience to surf shallow reef waves. Even my home breaks became so over crowded. Internet ruined surfing.

Can some one explain to me the drop in rule. I’m new to surfing and I don’t want to screw up someone’s ride/wave.
Two surfers go for the wave the one behind from this camera point of view has the right of way and the one in front has dropped in on him, correct?

The local Bali boys are the ones that teach them how to surf. I’ve seen local surf instructors just shoving beginners into other people’s waves. This place is upside down world

Totally warranted, only problem was he didn't aim well enough. Blatant drop-ins (unless they're in response to a person wasting multiple waves taking off too deep) always deserve a beatdown. Unless the person is apologetic and gets out of the water.

Got the ments, gland , sumbawa pdang ulu and all that in 97' after that the camps came about and tarnished the feeling of being out there.
Every surfer dreams of indo. Problem is the ability of most these guys are not ready to be out there but they are. Danger !. Wait a few years before you go to shallow reef and top to bottom barrels. You may be sorry you did. Hopefully not. Or locate yourself accordingly to your ability, don't paddle out here.

no, dropping in is worse, way worse. getting a board kicked at you when you drop in is just consequences for your actions. dont do it, and it wont happen. only someone that doesnt surf would think that dropping in isnt that bad.

I have also tackled someone and held them under as well, after being dropped in on. its well deserved...I dont think I have ever dropped in on anyone... on purpose. I wont even drop in on a rank beginner. who knows that wave might be the best they have ever had, I dont want to ruin it for them. I know that sounds corny, but whatever. I try to stay away from crowds these days (not that easy anymore) and am way too old to get in a fight.....
Haha yeah I'm way too old for that drama and avoid crowds whenever possible. Which is pretty easy in NZ. Board flickers and aggro in the water aren't tolerated where I come from ...blatant drop in clowns get sent in and sort it out later.
