    The lack of performances isnt a deal breaker for most keybkard players. As a professional gigging and touring keyboardist, automated performances are never used in my work or for any musicians i know. We're more concerned with the action, sounds themselves, sound design capability and storage options.

      Actually, it has all the live sets from montage, but I couldn't find them since I wasn't familiar with the new category search , I was able to install all my expansions, really pleasant to play, superb keybed with excellent sound quality, now you have draw bars(only 8) and sequencer has been improved, however I still prefer to work with cubase for recording and editing.

    The new Montage contains ALL the sounds from the old Montage, so you can't say it doesn't have those performances. In addition to them there are many new sounds: pianos, EP, organs...not to mention the new AN-X synthesis and analog sounds.

      There is no AN1X there, advertising agents and Yamaha have convinced you that AN1X is inside the new Yamaha Montage M. But AN1Ч is not there! But I have it and I know what is in it and how it sounds, so my conclusions were not drawn out of thin air. I listened to the new Montage M8x and told myself that Yamaha remained Yamaha: just a lie and a provocation..

    I like Dom Sigalas. Not surprised that Yamaha hired him to create sounds.
    I think he’s an amazing player. Not sure if he writes music or just designs sounds, but I watched a lot of his videos comparing the Yamaha Montage to Roland and he was really good. He’s at another level than anybody else.

    This is super. The best synthesizers from every brand. It's like a child wandering into the playhouse. I have Nautilus 73 and Fantom 7 from this. This new Montage M really piqued my interest, so I was already thinking about selling the Fantom and replacing it with the Montage M, but I want to try it out first. I also like the Fantom, but unfortunately it has a lot of gaps in features and Roland hasn't updated it in a long time. The last update was also just an Aftertouch update, but I didn't see much change. In theory, a big update is expected in November. Introduction of ACB technology to Fantom. A System 8 skill in Fantom would be exciting. Unfortunately, the ACB polyphony is mostly only 8 polyphony due to the high DSP usage, but where the Fantom polyphony runs out, the extra polyphony can help, because the ACB will get real independent polyphony. They also promised other improvements, so I'm looking forward to it. If we get something from Roland that I like, I'll keep the Fantom. It would be best to keep the Fantom as well, because the Fantom Model Expansion is very good, but the price of the Montage M is very high

  • @Worship4LifeGuitar

    Would you Please 🙏make a video comparing the Polyphony! Between the Fantom EX8 vs Montage M8x, Does the EX expansion on the Roland increases the Polyphony of the Fantom 8??? Also, lets make a distinction since I heard you say that the Fantom has "unlimited" Polyphony which to my knowledge is ONLY while playing the Piano Engine alone, once you start layering sounds it starts cutting notes. For the many buyers trying to decide which one to buy, Polyphony is Very important. Thanks! Love your Set up!!!!

    I'm not hearing a step-change difference between this and the old Montage/MODX. Outside of the ANX, ,most of the presets/performances could be achieved with the older synths. Analog can easily be added via an Ipad app (excellent connectivity with Montage/MODX) for much less money.

    • @classicarcadeamusementpark4242
      @classicarcadeamusementpark4242 11 місяців тому +1

      Totally agree on adding an iPad to a MODX or Montage for analog synths. You can get a Moog Mini Moog & Modular Moog made by Moog Music, some of the Korg engines in the Kronos/Nautilus are available for iPad, as well as classic digital Korg's such as the M1 & Wavestation, B3-X and VB3 organs. Connects to the MODX/Montage with a single USB cable, no drivers and simple installation.
      I run VST's on my laptop and an iPhone with my MODX too (works the same as the iPad, but fewer synths available but many of the same ones).

    My two favorite boards in that room are this new M8X and the Pa5x. The Korg is an amazing arranger and the GUI/buttons are so simple and straightforward. You can tell it wasnt designed by engineers in a closet. For quick creation and one-man shows I dont think you can beat it for an 88 key and while expensive its made of very high quality materials. The M8x seems to have addressed the poor GUI, added features, and from what I have heard in YT demos the aftertouch is so deep, expressive, and layered for all kinds of effects. The Fantoms aftertouch was highly sold but half-baked. I think Nord pianos sound the best but in the workstation/arranger space I always lean toward Yamaha and Roland. Korg does super synth and pads. Not going to lie though, the 808-like sequencer on the Fantom is untouchable to me in terms of simplicity and speed of workflow. More keyboards need to go this route of physical buttons and not software.

    • @synth.s
      @synth.s  11 місяців тому

      Montage m has superior sound quality, ANX and polyphonic AT made this keyboard very powerful, New pianos and even the old CFX piano sound super real due to the new circuitry, Super Knob is easier to program and has more parameters to adjust with, and the keybed is even better than Fantom, I believe it's the best synthesizer on the market now for years to come, I've never been a fan of Nord, it's an overpriced stage piano with mediocre built quality and very cheap made keybed.

    • @js-sound
      @js-sound 10 місяців тому

      @@synth.s When I read that someone writes that the new Montage M has AN1X, it makes me laugh! There is no AN1X, there is not even a smell of this synthesis, much less the AN1X filter and the presence of all its functions, including ring modulation and fm, there are no 2 scenes, 8 oscillators (6 standard and 2 additional are the resonance of the filter with key tracking), there is no Free EG in full as in AN1X, there is no superB unison, especially since there is no unique character of the old wonderful synthesizer. Why mislead people and deceive them with the hope that they will get everything in this next duck from Yamaha?
      I agree with you about Roland's display. Yamaha is stupid and still cannot use the touch display as a modulator or as controller for modulations. This is in both the Korg M3 expanded and the Roland Phantom, but only Yamaha calls it “alas, we’re not that smart”.

  • @valuemastery
    @valuemastery 11 місяців тому +1

    Thanks for the first impressions! One question, that was not answered by studying the PDF manual: The AN-X engine has 16 notes of polyphony. But is it also multitimbral, i.e. can you use more than one part with an AN-X engine in a performance? For example, to program a keyboard split or a layer with two AN-X sounds.
    On the topic of general polyphony: 400 notes of polyphony is just a marketing number. If you create a performance with stock AWM2 sounds, it's only 128. And this will be further reduced as soon as you use any sound with more than one partial (like most sounds). AWM polyphony is counted in terms of partials (layers within the sound), not notes. So using a sound with 4 partials will give you 32-note polyphony. Yamaha claims that you can use up to 128 partials in a single sound (up from 8 on the Montage I believe), but then you would be left with a monosynth.

How can you get deeply competent on any keyboard when you have so many? It can take years just to leverage what a single keyboard can do.

      For the 2 smaller models it's the same. But it boils down to how the new m8x keybed feels for those that don't have the "Piano Fingers" A master Piano player might not give it that much thaught, but I bet there is many like me that would prefere the m7 and still would like the poly aftertouch. But I think once the dust settles and Yamaha have sold enough m8x they will pull a "Korg" and make a m6x and m7x refresh and there will be some cheaper m6 and m7 on the used market for those that don't care so much for the poly at. I personly can't risk the kinda money for the m8x if the keys are too heavy. I currently have a Kronos 2 73 and just the channel AT on it is very hard to control compared to the synth action keybeds. but I feel restrained with a 61key board if playing Piano parts and Korg doesn't even have a 76 key model with a Synth keybed. And even the organs sound reasonable and the new reverse fader mode ... They just forgot the 9'th fader .. Yamaha .. really ? People asked for that function and you couldn't squeeze an exra fader in ? /sigh. reason the Mojo61 won't be replaced any time soon.

    Honestly (and I mean no disrespect) that fact that you like the fantom (especially its sound) dilutes your credibility with me. There’s no comparison to either the montage, Kronos, k2700 in terms of sound quality. User interface yes is good and it’s integration with MainStage is cool but the sounds are terribly outdated and don’t even sound as good as the original machines they made their debut on. Synth sounds are about the only ones that are even passible and there’s so many duplicates. Anyway, the new montage m does sound better and has less latency when playing stacked sounds. The action also is more responsive. I own a Nord stage 4 88, compact,K2700, Moxf8, Kronos (latest version), SKX Pro, OB-X8, Prophet 10, and tons of vst’s and for gigs where I need the most variety of sounds (and I don’t mind the weight) I’ll grab the montage m every time. Actually on most gigs I use the montage/motif, Nord stage 4 compact, and 61 key Kronos. With that lineup I can cover everything I need.
