      Although this is a personal opinion, I have viewed hours and hours of (specifically) Emporer Penguin videos and I can tell you that this person is either extremely lazy or completely uneducated in the care of this animal. He\she may have been trained to weigh and check stats every few hours but is either ignoring proper feeding proceedure or hasn't been properly trained. An Emporer Penguin chick in the wild (and in properly trained habitats) will be eating only fully digested food (the consistency of paste) until they have grown to juvenile maturity. That means the chick will be the approximate size of an adult Emporer Penguin (about 4 feet) and will be almost fully molted. They need their adult plumage in order to withstand the almost freezing temps of Antarctica's W.Sea so UNTIL the day that happens, they cannot feed themselves. It is true (depending on time and digestion of the mother or father feeding them) that there can be chunkier paste but of all the feeds I've seen on E.P. chicks feeding, I can count exactly ONE time that I saw an actual, recognizable 'piece' of fish pass from adult to almost grown chick. Even that was just ONE chunk in the middle of a normal string of paste. Of the occurance I witnessed, the chunk was half the size of the pieces you are literally forcing down his/her throat in this video. Half, Eddy! When it happened on this video, the almost full grown chick (yours is 1/3 of the size this one was) immediately stopped taking food from the parent and gagged himself until he was able to eject it out of his throat. I am purposely over describing what I saw so you understand fully what I'm picturing here (If anyone sees the clip I'm describing, please paste link here, I could not locate). With the human standing right there, hopefully they won't kill it but I do feel that this may cause possible permanent damage and is unnecessarily causing unneeded stress on this chick every meal. Totally unhealthy. Please reach out to appropriately trained handlers who can advise you when you should be introducing solid foods and of what size a juvenile's catch will be at that time. OR just get a blender and a feeding syringe and paste up it's food so it doesn't have to freaking force gag through every meal. Seriously, I am completely dumbfounded! Would you feed your infant child/baby like that?! I'd like to place you between two adult Emporer Penguin females that are warring over a mate and let them flipper slap you until your freshly spanked, bare ass is a bright and shiny candy apple red.
      Can anyone provide name and location of this facility?
      Little more on chunks and stuff: E.Ps have a specially built pouch at the very bottom of their stomachs/torso. It's located there so the food it is storing is kept cooler in temperature for longer freshness. Always thought it was cool that they have a built-in mini fridge! One possible reason for that one unusual chunk (besides the obvious reason being it had swallowed a larger fish w/ bone vs smaller prey like krill, squid, etc: Likely, judging by the size of the chick (way more grown then this one), it was more likely the end of the breeding season which means summer is about to begin and the ice shelf had melted enough that adults didn't have as far to walk from the sea to breeding colony. So, less time for digestion/prepping, etc.

    he's supposed to be in antartica getting raised by his parents and socialize with his little friends, not in some veterinary

    • @firefever2604
      @firefever2604 4 роки тому +9

      Hes better off where he is now than with the colony in Antarctica. Trust me. Penguin chicks are 10 times more likely to die in wildlife than being under care of humans. Emperor penguins have been an endangered species for over 2 decades. If the chick was with its parents chances are other adults will fight over the chick, crushing it to death and some adults will abandon their chick when in contact with other adult penguins or humans. Petrals and skuas are also a responsible cause for baby penguins being killed and or eaten alive in Antarctica.

    • @natalia-mn3li
      @natalia-mn3li 4 роки тому

      @@firefever2604 I know a lot about penguins. I know what you're saying is right, but I still think intervening with nature, pulling that chick away from it's parents it's not ok. their life is at sea, and we will not save emperors by taking one chick thousands of kilometers where they're meant to be

    • @firefever2604
      @firefever2604 4 роки тому +5

      @@natalia-mn3li those parents arent going to be nutiring that chick forever, once they turn 3 to 4 or 5 months they stop taking care of them cause they begin to fledge and grow independent. So what's the big deal if they take chicks from the parents. America makes no big deal locking human kids in cages so I dont get what the problem is here. Emperor penguins adults and chicks are more likely to not survive in the wild than under the care of humans. If the species wasent endangered, they wouldnt even be doing this with them to begin with. Alot of majestic animals and creatures have gone extinct with no more opportunities for not only scientists but animal investigators and researchers to gain information for a value profit. Plus the chicks may not like being away from the parents some of them dont but they are much better off. Emperor adults are simply just too sly and irresponsible despite all the efforts they put in. Adults will leave a mate for another or simply abandon their chick when they get hungry or when their mate doesn't return from food hunting. Some adults will hunt for food during breeding season and just decide to not go back to the colony leaving their mate and chick to die. Emperors fight over chicks and crush them to death and some will just neglect them without even feeding them for unknown reasons. These people are doing the right thing cause they are needing to weigh and measure the chick to get a good insight on how much their babies weight. The parents dont like it but that's just how it is. Like I said they care for chicks for 4 months and done with them. And plus penguins have a life span of 20 to 55 years (20 max if you're speaking of feral ones in the wild) I dont mean to write paragraphs of this. I just happen to know alot more about penguin psychology than any average joe

    • @natalia-mn3li
      @natalia-mn3li 4 роки тому

      @@firefever2604 you're way of thinking is so sick. If everyone thought like you we would have all the animals in captivity because, surprise, food chain exist. maybe in this video they took the chick for scientific benefit and maybe not, maybe they took it, like they kidnap so many animals, to make them money makers. and I'll just reply to what I remember for that whole ass book you wrote. 1. emperors don't live that long. their lifespan is from 15-20 years. If there are emperors living longer, that's not the average. 2. almost every animal (if not all) in this world have predators, and there's nothing we can do about it. that's how nature works. you can't keep them away from their colony and world because something could happen to them. It breaks my heart, specially because emperors are my favorite animals, when I see a leopard seal or an orca eat them. but if prey weren't there, they would starve. and that's how a whole ecosystem and biodiversity goes down. these encounters have had happened since before humans existed, and we can't, not it's ethical nor fair to lock them up. 3. we have the tolls to protect them from climate change from there, not bring the whole damn species out of their habitat. 4. don't you dare criticize the parenting from these animals. penguins are one of the most devoted animals in the world for their chicks. the only reason penguins don't return to their colony is because a predator killed them or injured them really badly. these events had happen since forever and you can't do anything about it. that's not the reason the species is endangered. lastly, for your own good, you have to understand that all the animals in the world face threats such as predators. that's the way things have always been and how we can have a healthy community
