Considering how much Todd LOVES the Batman I'm expecting a version of Adam West Batman that comes with a can of Bat Shark Repellent, a big ass bomb, and a set of Bat-tusi hands.
I think that I would like to get the McFarland Batman ('66) and the McFarland Robin ('66) then order the Mattel Batmobile ('66) for it would be what I would have liked to have had when I was a child. Thank you for showing me these things in this video. 👍😀
So I definitley will be picking up those 66 Batman and Robin. They look WAY better than their Mattel counterparts. But they will go with my Mattel Batmobile. So the best combo is Mattel Batmobile and Mcfarlane Batman and Robin.
I'm a 1:18 collector and I've been wanting to get that McF Batmobile for my Funko 66 Bats. I'm glad you included it in your comparison. For that alone, I subbed. :D Thank you man, awesome content!
This thing is huge. Found the car at target for 30$ got it for my 5 year old son. Didn't see the action figures. But we have a Keaton Batman that fits in it. Its even the gray and blue batman. So kinda looks good
Aside from the Batman 66 TV show, the Super Friends Batmobile is my second favorite Batmobile from the Bat Universe. I wish McFarlane Toys do that Batmobile justice just like they did with this Boatmobile.
Hey Brad. Those figs do look very accurate to the old TV show. I have the Neca Adam West Batman. That one looks ok but I think the McFarlane one looks more realistic.
If McFarlane was gonna make this toy line, why not make it so the figures actually fit into the Batmobile? Personally, this whole line just looks like it was a huge rush job to market with little thought…I was very happy to get these figs but am now very happy I don’t have to anymore. He’s a very detail oriented guy and frankly I’d be embarrassed if I was him. From Robin’s scalloped cape bottom to the missed car details (not to mention scale) these are an easy pass for me. But like Bobby Skullface says “you like it, you win”
That visible U crunch drives me crazy!!! I can't not see it. These guys remind me of Mego just in their simplicity. Then seeing them in the batmobile, head above the windscreen...Mego all the way. It's fun. It doesn't matter how they fit to kids, as long as they get in there. I think that is the point. Thanks for the review!
I've always been bugged by, in the Classic TV show, how the Batmobile and other batparaphernalia had different symbols to Batman's chest. Especially in a version all about branding (everything was prefixed with "bat", after all), you'd think they'd go with a consistent logo. Even his belt buckle is a different bat shape! There are places where it is the "correct" symbol, of course. But the most prominent I can think of off the top of my noggin is the Batboat: that had the same logo as his chest. PS. The capes on these figures are truly awful.
I agree. You'd think it would be easier/save money to use one, consistent Bat symbol. It bugs me when other iterations do this; like Batman Begin's suit symbol being different from the one used for the overall trilogy. Or Batman's Injustice 1 suit with the oddly-different belt symbol.
Todd made it clear in an interview with Shartimus that he doesn't quite grasp scale. I feel MacFarlane got Adam's build and the grey right but Mattel got the blue's right...well better. Mattel I feel got the greens of Robin better aswell. As for them not being intended to be top quality is kind of fitting given MacFarlane haven't had the best reputation with regard to QC.
The Mattel figures can thankfully be made to fit lower on the McF Batmobile. Glad coz I didnt want to splurge for what the Mattel Batmobile cost in my area.
I don't know if McFarlane's designer was influenced by the animated movies but the colors are very close to the art work used in the animated movies. I think at the end, these figures cost less than what Mattel was offering and they aren't that different.
I remember getting the original ToyBiz Magneto and the "magnetron" vehicle for Christmas way back. It squeezed his legs together so tight the body popped apart. It was basically like I stuck him in and he exploded. 😂
Ok, so the figures are better from McFarlane, but the Batmobile is better (as in, scale, generally) from Mattel. Best of both worlds for someone who just wants one of each, I guess.
They should’ve been 7 inch like the rest of his line…..not for me sadly. On a different note I can’t wait for the Mezco 5 point 66 Batman box set. Hopefully Mezco tackles them in the 1/12 line sometime.
Got the batmobile and its the seats that they molded that wont let them sit accurately. To customize remove the screws. There are 3 screws in the front, two of them are block by the front wheels. Four screws in the middle and five screws on the back. Ignore the screw thats behind the turbine , its not part of the body.
Nice find great review! I knew the Batmobile scale was off from the initial review was hoping it would be tweaked for production but maybe later. Still a nice display definitely worth picking up.
I assume the Mattel Batmobile is discontinued? I hope someone eventually does a '66 Batmobile better scaled to 6'' figures. I'd like to put all manner of random 6" line figures in it just for $#!+s & giggles.
The Mattel Batmobile being better scaled to the figure reminds me of the Diamond Select Ghostbusters dioramas relevant to the Hasbro GB figures--the DS GB figures were so damn tall that the dios seemed too small, but with the Hasbro figures they match up MUCH better. Guess that means you shouldn't pass any toys you're interested in, as eventually someone else will make things to match them better.
I had such a headacheeee with that Ghostbusters Diorama! It was impossible to complete the firehouse as well. I quit and sold it all off to not deal with the mess of needing a few pieces
@@robd1329 I agree with the firehouse doors, but the rooftop diorama is very cool. Not sure I would pay the current eBay prices for it, but back when I got it it was more than worth the effort.
FYI.... Metals Die Cast has a BEAUTIFUL METAL version of the Classic TV Series Batmobile (with, at least, working doors (it remains unopened but the doors have a plastic band around them)). It also comes with a (2 or 3 inch) Batman figure (in a static pose).
I think your assessment is fair, but personally I still have a grudge against these because I feel like Todd thinks "retro" is an excuse for primitive engineering instead of a specific design aesthetic. The only things retro about them are things that cut costs, nothing actually celebrating vintage toys. For one thing, figures were never 6" in a bygone era, so all that accomplishes is putting these out of scale with the rest of his own product (and cutting costs). And they have basic, budget line articulation but modern paint jobs and that (frankly revolutionary, definitely not retro) assemblage of parts cast in colored material. He's trying to have his cake and eat it, too, and the end result is just confused and not fully satisfying in any way to me.
Mcfarlane should do the Christopher Reeve Superman and Linda Carter Wonder Woman to line up and in scale with these figures so we can have a retro heros line.. there was even a Shazam in that time period.
Opened mine last night. Batman’s head and neck piece popped off while taking him out of the package. Makes it easier to swap the cape later. I had to heat the ears to fix those. Robin’s arms are so stiff I was afraid to move them. I passed on the undersized Batmobile. And Joker’s face paint is terrible and there doesn’t seem to be a moustache. Now THAT is just unforgivable.
The mattel one's perfect but the Mcfarlane has imo better sized windshields, really tempted to make a frankenstein out of the two to upgrade the mattel, might make for a cool project
I think they are cool for Nostalgia purposes but I saw all these in the store even the variance and they were a hard pass for me and my collection still fun to look at though
Todd Mcfarlane has done justice to all of the DC line.. Something which Mattel could not do and probably never will. Superior sculpts and paint in everyway.
Can't wait to find em at a Walmart cause our local store is always drier than beans maybe if I make a magical toilet paper run I'll find em to so bless me with a roll and off I'll go. Great review by the way
Thinking this batmobile may look fantastic with the Spin Master 4" figures, seems more scale appropriate in that direction. Just ordered up a 2013 Mattel 66 batmobile for this new figures because of this review!
@@ChewieEst - that is on point, I figure its not too insane a markup considering it was $50 in 2013, and 8 years later its a bit rare, so i think in total with shipping (big box) went in $130. I can see it going north from there unfortunately due to the popularity of this new line and the disappointment with the McF Mobile!
How did your NECA version break? This looks amazing though I do think my NECA fig of the same character looks far cooler in all regards. But then again my version hasn't broken!
I cant see any kids getting these. it's definitely for the adults who like the retro look collectibles. shame the figures don't quite fit the batmobile right. Adam west head sculpt is uncanny though 👍
I tried to pre-order them from Target but the scalpers must have gotten to them first, as all the Pre-orders are sold out. The Target site won't allow me to search their whole network, only store by store, and I got tired of trying random stores to see if they had pre-orders available there. I guess I will try WM, as I thought these were a Target exclusive?
Pro tip: Use a nail clipper to cut the packaging ties, much less likely to damage the figure accidentally than using a blade or scissor.
Agreed
Now all we need are George Reeves Superman and Linda Carter Wonder Woman
Considering how much Todd LOVES the Batman I'm expecting a version of Adam West Batman that comes with a can of Bat Shark Repellent, a big ass bomb, and a set of Bat-tusi hands.

They should’ve included the most important weapon in the show and the tv movie: the Bat-shark repellent.
So I definitley will be picking up those 66 Batman and Robin. They look WAY better than their Mattel counterparts. But they will go with my Mattel Batmobile. So the best combo is Mattel Batmobile and Mcfarlane Batman and Robin.
That seems to be the best option, I agree.
This is absolutely perfect! Cloth capes. Perfect likeness. No stupid torso articulation. The batmobile looks perfect. I'm in love.
Got the whole set in one shot yesterday while checking out my local Walmart. Fastest set I've ever collected, and super excited to have it 👍
Thanks..im going today to see what my walmart has!
Walmart? I thought this was a target exclusive?
Walmart carries them here in Canada. Toys R Us too 👍
I would love to see them all wish
You could post it here!

While they're good for what they are, at the $18 US price point, I expected more. That's not much cheaper than a standard Multiverse figure.

I just got mine today. can't wait to open them up. And yeah the playset and car are way too small for these figures
I don't collect '66 Batman; but besides making the better Batmobile, Mattel's Batman had more show-accurate colors imo.
Forgot to add, very solid and thorough review Brad…keep it up
I found the batcave at my local Walmart two days ago. Of course I had to have it. Robin is all I'm missing to complete the set.
I have an older one I got ages ago so I dont need the new one, but I DO really want that Batcave DIO.

That's a fair assessment. 👌
You're one of my favorite reviewers to watch Brad!
As soon as I saw these at Target, I had to have them to make up for not getting the Mattel figures.
LOL’d at the “better groin articulation” observation.
I own these. They're alright. 👍 You get what you pay for. Fairly priced. Batmobile was cheaper than a new Marvel Legends figure...

Wow, Mattel really nailed that batmobile. Glad I watched this before I bought the mcfarlane one.
DC should do a multiverse movie in which all the Batmans, past and present, meet!
You might have mentioned that the Macfarlane Batmobile is much cheaper than the Mattel version, when comparing all the details.
Wow, I can't believe they don't have side articulation on the legs. I thought those were pretty standard nowadays.
