Since the Orientation Period is almost over and the Oathtaking will be held in a few days, I have decided to give you guys a sneak peek of the first few days of the Probies' training.
For those who think this style is too much for the merchant marine, you are right. But this is a government school and by law it requires the cadets to be commissioned as officers in the Naval Reserves, hence the training. Some of the graduates also join as regulars in the Coast Guard and Navy.
In the merchant marine, the PMMA's consistent track record for producing world-class officers are unmatched in the country. People can say whatever they want, but I challenge you to compare their school's products to ours first.
PMMA
Special thanks to Engr. Raymhon Joseph Raquel for the video footage.
Hey guys! Thanks for tuning in. The Oathtaking is scheduled on Wednesday, July 31. Hopefully it doesn't rain. I'll be doing the full documentary from start to finish of the Orientation Period really soon so stay tuned for that. Thanks for watching!
I'd respect any graduate of that school. Any vessel needs good order and discipline. Those kids earn respect.
That's true sir I like the way they teach the cadet a proper discipline and respect.
Not everyone, some tend to get their heads up on space.
Nauti Cal Yes. Earning their respect through discipline and responsibility, paving the way towards becoming a responsible man and woman adults that can be respectable as a future leader. Truly a humbling experience for those who succeed in this.
Brilliantly produced Chief! Quite refreshing to see such dedication in so many physically fit young men and women with a sense of pride, and I wonder Chief, how many of them really understand at this point the immensity of what they have chosen to undertake and the degree to which they are benefiting themselves and loved ones? Much Looking forward to the finished production!
Cheers!
Hi, Chief,
This is definitely a young person’s milieu!
Look forward to the rest of your documentary.
Cheers!
Great video Chief, thanks for sharing. I served in the Marines here in the US from what I see a lot of similarities good luck to all of these young recruits and looking forward to the next update.
I have been looking forward for this video, all the more for the documentary. Hopefully I can get to experience this kind of training. Thanks Chief😎
Thanks for sharing this chief ... it bring good memories inside the academy sir 😊
I wish them all the best with safe passage and following seas.
Very Informative and inspiring! Good Job Chief!! Another good video waiting for the complete documentary
Maganda talaga and training nang PMMA. Reminds me of my training sa US Marines. 👍👍👍
I’m kind of surprise that their training mirrors that of the military. Why is that?
US Marines, Cpl
Infantry, 86’-92’
Semper Fi.
They're college students. Already 18.
Chief MAKOi , he said mirror, as in it replicates many of the techniques and methods of military training. Not minor as in not reaching their majority age.
I’m guessing that it use these same methods for the same reasons. You want to see who can take the pressure that the course and training will take. A full scale college education plus the technical training these youngsters will receive is not cheap. You don’t want to waste it on those who can’t make it. So you weed out the weak of mind and body. It’s brutal but effective.
Exactly. Minor yun kanina inedit lang hahaha. Or malabo na talaga mata ko hahhaa
I equate PMMA to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland,USA.
I appreciate your videography and that that you had the grit to make it, Chief. Semper Fi
I am proud to have been an infantry squad leader in the most decorated battalion in the U.S. Marines.
Retreat hell!
@@jeremyperala839 Thanks! That's because back in the early 1900's, US Navy Officers were the ones in charge of our school. The military-style of training came from them. It can also still be seen in USMMA.
Thank you
sir for the awesome documentary!
Thanks Chief, I've missed your videos. The training looks intensive and thorough, you have opened me to a world I had no idea existed. I am a veteran of the US Army, in no way was the basic training as intensive as this. That's why it is called basic, it was only the beginning ! Take care and looking forward to more content. The sea probably misses you. 😉
Thank you sir, cheers !
Thank you sir! Reminds me alot when i was an orientation staff of class of 2011..
Proud 2011 probi here Sir.

On June 3, 2009 after my bf (now my husband) survived Pmma proby days, I asked him what made him survived inside the academy . And I always remember that until now .Thanks to PMMA , he is now a 3rd engineer
The only word I understood from his answer was "future" hahaha
Nice Vlog Chief, love It...
Woah my brother was there. We will go in orientation. Goodluck and God bless furure MARINES!!!

Well done Chief Makoi! Featuring the Academy in the old days were prohibitive in any form, there was a sworn agreement of kind as i recall, but it may have changed then? Anyway, big thanks to you for letting the outside world see the Academy of now. Hope to see more interesting blogs for the Academy bunkmate! VYG 88
reminds me when i was college. Time flies so fast..
Go for that silver play button Chief!!
Hey Chief, I''m wondering if any of the traditions and protocols have changed over the years at PMMA since you graduated? Thanks for your dedication to PMMA Chief and I hope you are enjoying your vacation time with your family. Cheers!
A few. Conditions were way worse back then. But we mostly got rid of the bad traditions over the years.
Their training is rigorous! Looking forward to your documentary..;-))
another nice vid..tagal nghintay..hehehe.. #roadto100ksubs chief..
Another very interesting video! Good things are worth fighting for! ;)
Congrats in advance future seafarers!
hinde n nkkpagtaka yung mga bunkmate after grad sobra ang disiplina at guts. well trained at develop.
Thanks Chief for another informative and interesting video. I had to watch this one twice because of the high attrition number, 225, seemed just a bit high to me and I thought that I might have heard 25, which seemed more likely...but no, I heard correctly. How many were there at the start? At any rate I will try to keep up with your video posts, they are so well done I try not to miss any of them. Again, thanks, all the best to you and your family!
Total of 575 reported for the first day. Thanks!
Mas ma eenjoy nga nila pagiging bata nila gagraduate sila nyan nasa edad na 21 or 22 after 4 yrs. Pag gradute may company agad.
Thank you for the update sir. God bless and Goodluck.💪😇 hooooyah!💪

Sir chief thank you for the video update more power to you sir.!
The ARRIVAL of one Training Ship from France very soon for the PMMA (with participation of other schools among private institutions) is another landmark and perhaps for the plan to transform the PMMA into a National Maritime Academy or a Naval Academy , catering to Naval, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and other maritime public services (BFAR, HYDROGRPHERS, and other maritime public services) is the beginning of a new ERA of maritime domain transformation brought about by technological challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution (Artificial Intelligence and the Likes), is an eye opening of other positive transformation within our national society - finally has arrived! Hopefully, stakeholders with conflict of interests and the hostage of the so-called "trained incapacity" syndrome, may just but "stand on" while the nation is marching towards its lofty status as a national goal...let those forces who would try opposing the changes for personal and pecuniary interests simply leave negative interests behind and but join the forces of changes behind this initiative from our own leaders. .
Hi Chief. Sorry for being makulit, can’t wait kasi. Kids are regular poklat na, malapit na ba next upload? Meron vlog din ba on this si “ByaheNiEdward”? Did he show up sa oath taking? 🍻CHEERS🍻
Very good the informative video of training of the merchant marine🚢👍
I never realized the training was like bootcamp!
I was supposed to be one of these cadets. I've been joining the entrance exam but I always fail in neuro exam. I'm 3rd year and graduating Mar-E, but I'm still qualified. I will take my last shot this year, wish me luck🍀😉
Good videos
Hello to all from the Caribbean #trinidad & #tobago
Very impressive!
Bravo 4th good luck.
How's your experience?
Quiter
Goodluck and God bless ⚓

ENS JOENA BIBAT PCG (BSMT)

Chief Makoi, willing to join po. September daw po for taking examination. Pangarap ko po makasama dito.
I've never understood the wanna-be military mindset of people in the merchant marine world who never did a day of military service in their lives. It's very obvious with the company I work for. They yell and scream at any tiny mistake you make but dont realize how stupid they look and sound. Maybe where you're from it's different for whatever reason, but in the us, it's really not that serious. I'm not concerned about trying to push the work ethic out of others. I want them to do that on their own. Go out on the deck and practice throwing rope for 4 hours straight with no break like I did, go clean everything you were never even told or have to clean, go wash down the boat a day early without a break. Etc.. stuff like that. Dont expect other people to yell at you to get your job done.
The merchant marine world is not the hand holding that the military actually teaches you if you're in. You're automatically expected to show intensity in your work ethic. Usually they dont complain or try to make you do your job. You just get fired and everyone else goes about their day.
Gracias
Tnx sir chief for the update
Would be interesting if the training and claims of the positive effects in these kinds of institutions are given due research for validation..
It would be great if that would finally be put on record. In the Philippines at least, the maritime schools that use this style are the most sought after by the companies. In PMMA, 100% of graduates have sea experience upon graduation as they go for 1 year sea service on the 3rd year. And the career trajectory is definitely faster. Compare that to other "relaxed" schools. Not even 20% of their graduates have actually worked onboard a ship. Most times they even need some high-ranking relative to act as their backer just to cheat the system and be hired by a company.
Aha! I am the 1000th liker.😁
Hi chieff makoii May I know if the pmma cadets can get allowances for their needs and how much thanks chief.
Goodafternoon Sir Chief! Ano po ba work after graduate ka ng PMMA? Seaman po ba tapos officer lang agad? Or yan ba yung mga Marines?
sorry for my ignorance but can i ask why they have proper way of eating just like that 1:15 it fells like they are robot when it comes to eating
Well, it is two things. Not everyone has leaned how to eat properly and stuff. I had more than enough apprentices whom I had to teach how to use knife and fork, to wash yourself every day and how to make a bed and stuff. First I could not believe what I saw, but indeed, there are numerous people who grew up somewhat feral. Second thing is, this academy teaches you to act on order, i.e. how and when, not why. The captain and chief know why, these cadets just need to do it. This is installed here. No-one really cares how you eat, but you learn attention to detail. It isn't blind obedience though, just a concept that is new to many and that has use later on.

Goodluck Alpha 1st galingan nyo kaya nyo yan salamat at nakasama ko kayo kahit sa madaling panahon man
@Zoe Abastillas bakit ka umalis sir??
Chief are you a PMMA graduate...
i miss my son. it's his first week now as trainee. batch 2025
Before I make comment of the method of this type of training could you answer this questioin. After four years at the Academy what do the students graduate as and with?
They are commissioned as officers in the Navy Reserves. Some of them go for active duty in the Navy or Coast Guard. Most join the merchant marine. This school has a consistent record of 100% of it's graduates actually worked onboard a merchant ship as cadets go for 1 year sea time on their 3rd year, meaning they have been already hired by shipping companies even before they graduate. Graduates of this school also have a fast career trajectory with 60-70% of each class reaching the rank of Captain and Chief Engineer within 10-15 years after graduation. In the Philippines, only Academies which employ this kind of training are able to produce that kind of result consistently. Most schools in the Philippines - the relaxed ones - don't even care if 80% of their graduates even get the chance to work on a ship.
And PMMA is a government school so they enjoy free tuition, free meals and free dormitory. The only thing the government is asking for is military training and be a reservist.
thanks for sharing
Nice one sir! hu-ha!
Nalulungkot pa din ako until now pero hndi siguro para sa anak ko..😞😞 but anyway thanks po chief makoi nameet ka namin 😊
Chef makoi what is pmma? is that government owned? the graduates can be officers in Philippine Navy?

I love those M14's they were doing rifle drill with. Did you use a M14 or a M1 for rifle drill?
I have used both. I prefer the M1. More balanced in my opinion.
@@ChiefMAKOi that's cool. I own a M1 that was returned to the US from the Phillipines. Maybe it was one used at the academy. Thanks for the reply.
