With the new driving mode switch Mi-Drive (Mazda intelligent Drive Select; for petrol engines with automatic and i-Activ all-wheel drive), the driving behavior of the Mazda CX-5 2022 can be adapted to personal preferences and current conditions.
The Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture is also finding its way into the SUV bestseller, which is responsible for around a third of all Mazda sales worldwide. With targeted further development of the body, wheel suspension and seats, it increases passenger comfort and contributes to fatigue-free driving. The significantly reduced road noise also increases comfort, especially on rough surfaces such as gravel.
The new top equipment line Sports-Line Plus emphasizes the dynamic shapes of the Kodo design with its wheel arches, side skirts and bumper bottom parts painted in the vehicle colour. The high-quality look of the vehicle is underlined by the shiny 19-inch silver alloy wheels. The interior is characterized by soft nappa leather and high-quality real wood inlays.
The new Mazda CX-5 special model Newground for practically oriented customers has a silver optical underbody protection at the front and rear, silver side skirts, black painted exterior mirrors, green accents on the radiator grille and silver-black polished 19-inch alloy wheels. In the interior there are suede upholstery with light green stitching; the accents on the air vents are also in this colour. In addition, the boot floor can be turned here and thus has a washable coating in addition to a carpet surface.
The sporty special model Homura is characterized by the CX-5 2022 with a glossy black finish on the radiator grille, wing motif, lower bumper parts, wheel arches, side skirts and exterior mirrors. The taut, athletic look of the vehicle is complemented by 19-inch alloy wheels with a black metallic finish. Red accents can be found on the radiator grille; the seams on the black leather seats and on the steering wheel, shift lever and door panels are also red.
The Skyactiv-G petrol engines meet the strict requirements of the Euro 6d emission standard without an additional petrol particle filter and combine their lively power development with high efficiency. A cylinder deactivation also contributes to this, which, in addition to the 2.5-liter top engine Skyactiv-G 194 with 143 kW/194 hp, also works in the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G 165 in combination with a manual gearbox. In this way, further fuel savings can be achieved, particularly at low engine loads.
The top petrol engine Skyactiv-G 194 with Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, which is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, impresses with a consumption of 7.4-7.1 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 169- 161 g/km (according to NEDC). Also available with front and all-wheel drive is the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G with an output of 121 kW/165 hp and 213 Nm of torque (NEDC consumption 7.0-5.8 l/100 km; CO₂: 159-133 g / km). In conjunction with all-wheel drive, the six-speed automatic Skyactiv-Drive is available as an option to the standard Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual transmission.
Mazda also offers the CX-5 2022 with two power levels of the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D with bi-tubo charging as a drive source that is still interesting for frequent drivers or for towing a trailer. The cultivated and high-revving four-cylinder diesel engine has an SCR system to effectively reduce nitrogen oxide emissions and meets the Euro 6d emissions standard. The top diesel Skyactiv D 184 with an output of 135 kW/184 hp is available either as a front-wheel drive with six-speed manual transmission (NEDC consumption 4.9 l/100 km; CO₂: 128 g/km) or with i-Activ AWD and six-speed Automatic Skyactiv-Drive (NEDC consumption 5.5 l/100 km; CO₂: 145 g/km) available. The second diesel option is the Skyactiv D 150 with 110 kW/150 hp,

5:03 Not fake. Most of the Mazda CX-5's in the higher grade use a real wood veneer that is made from Japanese Sen wood. Quote from Mazda:
"Sen wood engulfs the driver in a forest of delicate streaks and character marks. Its ashen bands blend to create a dramatic finish that transport you to the mountainous districts of central Japan where trees stretch toward the sun. Because Sen wood works so well under the influence of both craftsmen’s hands and machine, its coarse texture is meticulously worked to create a finish that is patterned to the eyes, and polished to the touch."

One word - "Kaizen". It's a worth that describes the art of continual improvement, finding optimal way to do something and reduce imperfection. In many areas of the car manufacturing process, Mazda is well known for seeking out specialists in their field or Takumi's.
If it's wood, then seek someone who can perfect wood to a degree that cannot be done by anyone purely in the car industry. For metal, Mazda received inspiration from Samurai sword specialists which led to the world record 1,800 MPa Ultra-High Tensile Steel developed in conjunction with Sumitomo Metal Industries.
The thing I love about the Japanese is that this behaviour is in-built. They're quiet perfectionists and are always humble in that even someone with 50 years experience will never state they have reached perfection (as it's believed to be impossible).
Here in Australia, the person 6 months on the job is always quick to blow their own horn. Perfection? No - but they would think so.

Funny, I was thinking the same. I watched this video because I am having some regrets buying this exact car a few days ago.
He definitely made me feel better about it. But it’s definitely not a 9.6. Probably closer to 7.5/8
Also, the keep lane assist is awful. It doesn’t work at all, however it only works when there is a car infront of you. Try it out again, the steering wheel icon will turn green when it does that
A very nice car and as usual a thoroughly excellent review. I have a 2021 CX-30 GT sport tech and the lane keep assist could do with some improving. It's disappointing Mazda haven't addressed that. Also I wish the sunroof was bigger. Last annoying thing is the key fob, when it's in my pocket whilst I'm washing the car the side buttons keep getting pressed locking and unlocking the car. I wish they would put them on the face of the fob instead. Beautiful car though and very well finished. Much better than a lot of the current batch of ev's which cannot compare on interiors. Thanks for covering the new CX 5.

Wow a great review! I just brought a 2022 CX-5 in Australia and getting it in May, I have a question. Is there any setting to make it possible to see electronic number on the speedometer instead of the needle? I know there is the heads up display as well, but just curious about this. Great video!

My wife just got the CX-5 2022 Carbon Edition. It has Red Leather, moon roof auto lift gate and other features. We just took it on its maiden voyage to Utah and in Comparison to my 2020 Subaru Forester (Also a 4wd) I'll lay out some differences. First, I like the stick, it's larger and closer to my hand, the drive is okay, it's not mind numbing like the Honda CRV. The engine feels more fluid because it's not a Variable Transmission engine. Minuses, comfort, not much of a fan of Leather, especially here in California where it gets extremely hot. Other issues, they cut back on some materials and I can't rest my hands. There's supposed to be a lane keep assist, but unlike the Subaru, it's only in extreme emergencies and you do not get the guided assist that takes off the stress from your arms while driving like the Subaru. Rear Camera is almost a hazard, there's no real guidance and I worry my wife will have issues backing up. Materials feel nice, but Subaru seems to have upped a bit on the quality control, where you have plush leatherlike touches everywhere and the comfort of the ride is noticeably higher. On the upsize with Mazda, you do get a lot, cloth is only available on the lowest trim, you also get auto high beams, rain sensing wipers, and the usual auto safety (but not as informative as the Subaru where you can turn it off for example in the car wash. Entertainment system is okay, not touch sensitive, but if you remember you can use the knob in all directions (left, right, rotate, up, down) then the speed of access becomes extremely quick. Climate controls are nice but could be simpler. My wife's happy with this car, but I do prefer my Subaru due to the ride and yet I love the Carbon treatment on the Mazda. I miss the option to lift the moonroof up to get airflow, in my Subaru it's panoramic with no lift, just either use the shade, or open it.

How does this compare to the 2021, we just bought a 2021 GTR turbo due to it being a great deal it seems very nice to drive but did we miss out on a major improvement?

Love the way when you set cruise it dims the numbers that are not relevant. Road sign recognition also puts a very clear line where the speed limit is, then draws a red arc in a non-intrusive way to show the exceeding speed limit.
Non intuitively, by displaying less information and attempting to replicate a traditional speedometer, the display is a very high resolution compared to other Japanese competitors. The intention is to make it very hard to determine the difference between a true analog display and this digital replication.
In this video it seems all the instruments are digital replication instead of just the main one. But refresh rate of the middle one is higher it seems - possibly to prevent fatigue.

I am awaiting the delivery of my new cx-5 sport edition, I wasn’t even in the market for a Mazda but the dealership where I went to look at the new sportage also sells Mazda and to be honest having owned vag cars for several years I can say with confidence that these new Mazdas are built better, I would compare the new cx-5 to any suv from BMW, Merc and Audi in terms of build quality and premium feel.
I also believe the new cx-5 is better looking than what the Germans have to offer in the same class.
I was shocked at how very nice the cx-5 is hence why I ordered one. Hopefully it should be with me by middle/end of feb, I literally cannot wait, beautiful car.

The premium they get for the turbo isnt worth it. Tye turbo power isnt a throw u in the seat kinda power. Its boosted a bit between 2-5 rpm. Basically just helps you get out into traffic better or maybe when u need a boost to pass. The NA version is way more than enough considering youll never use the power in most every day driving. Ill take the PP over the turbo anyday

This CX-5 seems to have special wheels installed. The Signature trim is supposed to have factory installed 19 inch wheels. I can't find any information about these 17" wheels.

Many people berate the Mazda's brakes because they are sluggish. Is this true? This conclusion may arise from a test drive on many cars, which is why compared to other cars Mazda brakes may seem bad. How bad are these brakes compared to the Peugeot 308? Thanks!

My friend bought 2022 volvo cx60. Even with 2.0 diesel is silent like benzin version. Extremely nice place to be. Mazda, Toyota and others should back to the roots in terms of soundproofing their cars.

I just bought this exact car a few days ago with my wife and I am having some regrets. This video definitely made me feel a little bit better
Here is a few things that really bothers me
The lane keep assist is awful. It doesn’t work at all, so frustrating. however it does sometimes work when there is a car in front of you and close to you. (Try it out again) the steering wheel icon will turn green when it does that
I hate that the screen is not touch screen. Wth!!
I don’t like that they didn’t add a remote start from the key fob.
I have other things that bother me. But there are the main ones

Mazda tells you up front there is NO touchscreen. They don't want a touchscreen. People who don't want a touchscreen will buy. Everyone else is free to buy something else. End of story. There's no problem. Don't complain just buy something else.

This is the new Maza CX-5? Updated infotainment system and Lights and thats all? Since 2017 nothing change, no wonder Mazda is going down the road, no inovation at all, they should watch closely what KIA and Hyundai is doing, very very disappointed with this.
